    I made this dessert several times from another UA-cam video, but I love it! I was able to travel to Athens prior to COVID-19, and I mentioned this dessert, the Greek gentleman were shocked with my pronunciation of the word and that I knew of this dessert. They were so nice, one gentleman went to a bakery close by the restaurant we were at and had the owner make two of them and bring it over to our restaurant to eat for lunch! I really enjoyed my time there and hope to return in the future! Thanks for this video.

    Half of the syrup was enough for me to produce enormous sweetness.☝️I also used clarified butter. 🧈
    The fluffiness of the semolina due to the egg mass is phenomenal.
    Thank you Akis for getting such inspiration and techniques from you.🙏 Greek cuisine here in Germany often still consists of gyros, fries and an ouzo. But there is so much more ...🤩

    Akis, I'm Armenian and my bf is Greek so we watched your Greek video of this because this cake is my obsession. I've made your recipe soo many times and it's the frk best! Thank the heavens for the people who invented this cake, it's so good. I literally annoy everyone with how much I love this cake. I always make it when I have time for special occasions. Guys, if you haven't tried his cake recipe for this you are sorely missing out! Yes, it's fattening but damn is it good. Hi from Montreal!

      1:11 ​​@@dantaniondb And it shouldn't be a guilt thing. An elderly friend and former boss had got it into her head that my husband constantly cooked rich meals because I told her about one special dinner he cooked. She constantly criticised me for 'letting' him eat fattening things. She made me so anxious that we cooked the fun stuff less and less and as bought deserts are even less healthy it was not as fun and we still put on weight!
      The friend was not even married and looking back I am appalled I listened!

    Just did my DNA heritage test and I found out I am part Greek, I am overjoyed to have this wonderful heritage running through my veins. I've been interested in Greek cooking for years, it feels meant to be. This dessert is beautiful, job well done! I'd love to make this also

    I’m not fan of custard but im actually in Athens these days and today for first time ever I tried galaktopoureko and let me tel you 😱 I never ate something so good. I always new Greek dishes are fantastic and there is nothing like Greek cuisine but today I was taken to highest level of Greek culinary art…. Btw I always have fun watching your videos. Love how you use the word sexy when you cook 🤗

    I love ALL of Akis' videos but really appreciate that they are using less music in the background. Also, thank you, Akis, for explaining why you use the honey .. I am about to make your baklava and panicked because I do not have glucose (probably Karo syrup is an equivalent here in the US??). Now I can use honey (and hope I don't ruin that perfect recipe).

    My father was greek (from Thessaloniki) and always used rosewater syrup when making desserts. Why is it now that most use honey? Just wondered. Love your recipes and enjoy all your videos, so funny and entertaining. Thank you.

    It doesn't look much, but it is. Tastewise is one of the best desserts. When I have a cheat day every few months this is the dessert I chose from all the meriad western and eastern options.

    The galaktoboureko looks great! I hope to try it someday. BTW, are there different versions to this treat, differ from one region to other region in Greece?

      This is the traditional dessert. But you can find it with another type of phyllo too.

      Black pepper? Interesting. What does it add? Sorry that seems silly. Of course it adds the taste of pepper but I mean is it like when you add a little cayenne to chocolate desserts?

    Don't know why sometimes the custard after cooking becomes a caramel colour?, Has happened many times.. maybe the eggs? The butter? Would love an answer to that..🤔

    Halleluia! Dove sei stato fino ora? Ho difeso la tua cultura e la tua tradizione con tutte le miei forze. Sono romena. E vedo che le mie e le tuoi riccete nazionale sono " prestate" dei altri, e ne magari riconoscono di dove li hanno.......! Quando facio la ricceta della nonna, dico anche il nome, come tutti abbiamo due nonne, sorelle e cognate delle nonne, cugine, delle nonne, etc. Cosi manteniamo nella memoria e ringraziamo, ha quelli qualle con tantta generosita hanno lasciato un segnio. Se una amica mi regala una ricceta lo dico: il suo paese, le suoi origine, non dico che e la mia. Le riccete greche, tantti dai altri pesi, li dichiarano come lorro. Non e giusto. Poi dire la origine della ricceta, e, che lo fai nel modo tuo. Ma non di dichiarare, che e la tua ricceta nazionale. Per me sono ladri e non meritano rispeto. Elena

    If you want a thicker layer of custard should you double the custard?

      I would guess yes. My mother makes it about twice the height same as the ones in bakeries.

    I prefer with no syrup at all and much less sugar would substitute the sugar with honey

      There is no syrup without sugar! You can find many healthy recipes on my website!
