    Here is some positivity. Everyone is an expert and loves to put their point across. I have never worked with Fibreglass and welcomed your approach. There was a bolt hole that had broken free so the plan was to fill and re-drill. Thank you so much. I was going to use gaffer tape but used the inside of a tetra-pak milk container as it is foil and offered support of card. Masking tape used to hold that against the existing bodywork. It just worked perfectly and came away without any pull. Smooth as silk underneath. V happy chap. 👍

    Great video, I am getting started on a project some else started. There are spots that were filled with a compound that has fiberglass in it but is pink when hardened. Should I grind it out and start over or leave it. I am afraid of shrinkage once things heat up outside. Also send me the thickness of the thick mat you used? BTW where are you located? Orlando FL here.

    You are not using a roller to set your mat and roll out air bubbles and excess resin? That crucial step makes a repair much stronger by squeezing out the air and keeping the ratio of resin to mat correct for better strength and flexibility. A resin rich repair stress cracks easily..

    what brand of gel coat do you use and also what type of primer for automotive paint would you use on top top of the gel coat? thanks im doing some custom reword on some widebody/fidnder flares i have on my car that are fiberglass an im having problems trying to undersand what i can use a "gell coat" after i have finished all my body work and repairs to the firberglass. basisly what i want to do is rebuild up the out side layer on the flares. hopefully that makes sense haha.

      Glad the video was helpful. The gel coat is the top coat that is usually applied to fiberglass parts to give them a high-quality finish to the visible surface of fiber reinforced composite.

    God I hate working with fiberglass. I live in Florida, and I'm just not wearing long sleeves/long pants. Hopefully after a shower the itching will go away. I got some USC All Resin, because I'm working with SMC, and I have no idea if its epoxy or polyester, anyway, so far this stuff seems pretty damn good. B ut the damn activator instructions...awful. This stuff came with cream hardener , which is fine I guess, but i had to use at least a 1/4 what they said to use. First 3 oz batched kicked in probably less than 5 minutes. Nothing like throwing away 2.75 oz of resin. After that I cut it in half, and then half again.
    I'm repairing a Humvee hood, that someone else has worked on, oh joy! Any way, I really like this video.

      Here in the west temperature always problem too hot resin kicks too soon too cold resin Very slow to kick you can alter ratio cat to resin some what experiment, try working when temperature less a problem the itch, dress up cover skin long sleeves gloves lotions containing lanolin rubbed on bare skin blocks pours and washes off easily hope this helps there is good money to be made in fiberglass repair

    Can you comment on what kind of resin you use with that type of mat? I’ve read that some chopped strand mat can only be used with polyester resin. Thank you!

    • @mitchfan01
      @mitchfan01 3 роки тому

      Dan, don’t use epoxy resin with chopped strand matt as it doesn’t have the styrene in it which allows the matt to be wet out

    Poor technique from start to finish: no need for the screw, tape or foil on other side of crack . foil on wrong side, thick part of repair should be on underside so top can be worked to match contour., stir with stick or rod not brush, let resin rest until all bubbles gone. grind repair when resin fully cured just for start In the trade over 25 years, fiberglass repair my specialty
