Really lovely to hear from you mate. I am sorry I have not done much of anything for a while regarding fishing and youtube. I have had some real big problems in my life. Nine months on and I am slowly getting my head together. Few more months and I will know more about where I will be. No illness. A split. I will get more time to do the things I would rather do one day. Like following your channel and others I enjoy. At the moment any time I have spare is sat editing for the channel.
Great again Shaun. Good take time out to explain exactly what you’re doing. The fishing with single Nymph on floating line long leader. Seems work good for you. A keep trying it just can’t seem get it right at all. Any advice be much appreciated.
OK first thing is a method or pattern is never 100%. But what I do know is that now you have tried this a good few times. Your confidence will be low. We fish this pattern the same as we do a lot of patterns, such as the great Diawel Bach. For a lot of these patterns they will fish well a week or two after stocking. Resident fish respond well to these patterns. However they are deeper and more difficult. Apart from being more spaced out. You will have to cover a lot of water. I often fish this pattern first to check water out and find out how the fish respond. But we do cover the water quite quickly. This time of year when there is less food around fish will be reluctant to move to quickly. This method and pattern like most fishing will improve over the next few months. Or nearer spring. Mid spring to early Summer is when this pattern and method will fish its best. Fish respond to whats in there water. Every water is going to be different. One thing for sure, around the country we are seeing a decline in aquatic life. Fish are responding. Not the stock fish. But once those fish have been in this new environment for a few weeks they will respond to this water and whats in it. We still try the nymphs even now. But more success is with a small nymph with a 3mm bead. long tippet, like 15' to 20'. fished deep and slow. The fish at times are so gentle. So need a line with very good memory to pick this up.
@@williamwilson2485 That is what it's all about. Good on you. On the water the other day. Justin had an hour head start. He covers water faster than anyone I know. This was good as when I turned up he was able to tell me where the fish were responding. He had none to the net in this time. We set off to where he moved most. He was fishing his Diawel and me on the nymph. In no time he was into his first fish. Then me. We fished that bit of water for about 20 min. He had three with a few follows I had one with a few follows. Next spot he had two, me one. Justin then switched. went deep small and slow. Unreal. Nobody on the lake could understand how. He was pulling them out. He gave me the same fly. Doing as he was, I only managed one. He was on the pontoon next to me. Some times its just what it is. Mind this is Justin Allen. There is nobody like him. It was great fishing with him again. He has had International duties keeping him busy.
@ yes Justin is unreal watch him when with you he can definitely fish. On the day it’s just is what it is. Your advice is much appreciated n thanks again Shaun.
Had a very similar situation a few weeks ago at Garnffrwd. About eleven on the water. Conditions difficult. Watched all the methods being fished. Then done something different. Fished as normal to start. Small nymph fast and high. A few follows and one on and off. ended up getting four fish out with our small cling film fly, fished slow and almost static just about on the surface. Very slow fishing. but by the end of the day ended up top rod. We seem to be scaling down more and more once those fish have been in for a week or more. Good luck with your next trip. But remember you can learn more on those difficult days. Chill and enjoy. Take care, and thanks for which I think is your first comment here. Shaun.
Hi again Robin, We are all finding things difficult. Its only for the best of a week when stock goes in that its a bit easier. After that it's tuff going. But hearing the reason that we are on the water, like having fun and chilling. Good on you. So easy to get caught up with numbers. Nice to hear from you. Take care. Shaun.
Thanks Dermot. Understanding a little bit as to how the fish change, can certainly help us. Hopefully help us on making a better days fishing. Take care Dermot. Shaun.
Thanks Mike. Ye I spend a lot of time thinking how to word things. Its all there, but its how you put it across. I am aware how things can be taken the wrong way. And there is always what if. How fast things change. Years ago stock would go in and it was fun for weeks. Now the changes are so fast. We are seeing fish go off over the week. By week three we are slowing to almost static and very small on top, or near top. Take care mate. Thanks again. Shaun.
You will find a good few waters will have a variety of fish. We have Rainbows, Browns and Blues. The browns and Blues being more difficult to catch for most. But you do have to target them differently. Thanks for the time sending your comment, I really appreciate it. Take care. Shaun.
Hi Mate, hope your keeping well. I am nearing the end of the shit. And will soon find out what and where I may be. Not so much time on the water. May be one day. Catch up soon.
You mean you like the idea of a challenge. Good on you. As this is what its all about. Not impossible, Just a bit of a challenge. Due to you not having much in the way of c/r waters restricts us going all that way for. Take care mate. Thanks for the comment. Shaun.
Informative and entertaining, as always. You’ll need to control Steve in that wind 😂😂Really wish I had C&R locally in Somerset as I can’t always find someone to take my catch. Keep posting Shaun and all the best for the rest of the year 👍😍
I held that tarp for a while. Its amazing how strong that wind was. Would have been funny if it had blow him in. To be honest we would not have c/r if it was not for so many people traveling from so far to fish hear. 2 + hours is average. C/r could be burning out. There are disadvantages to having it, which I can not go into. But will be interesting to see where it is in the next five years. No worries working on the next already. Thanks for your support. Shaun.
Ellerdine last Monday, 10 fish on a real mix of flies and techniques. If I had to pick one set up that appeals to both stockiest and resdent fish I think a cast with an olive apps and a red or pink one work well at this time of year. If no fish come to the pink, put a smallish name on instead.
Sounds like Ellerdine fishing well. Will be up next month. Our red weighted apps is the best we have ever fished. We do have other colours, but don't seem to do as well. Mind have not fished them in quite a while. Catch up soon mate. Shaun.
What a bummer. Mind you may never have finished the job. Unless you fancy a challenge, let me know when you may be given it a go. I will give you updates on stocking and how its fishing. But as you know, there are no guarantees.
Thank you Shaun , your a kind man. It was the other sort of painting 🖼️ ! I’m 72, so retired. I should be going to Dale in April so will let you know .
@@Robin-pe8js Oh sorry. OK. So the leaves on the tree might have fallen off. Now your going to tell me you have a camera to catch the moment. Yes let me know. be nice to meet you. Take care. Shaun.
How about "Green Gage" as in the type of plum? It being a play on the phrase Plum choice is an informal term that means something is very desirable or superior, especially when given in return for a favour. For example, you might describe a job as a "plum job".
Nice one John, Seems like your the only one that caught that bit. Or may be like me they struggled. But that sounds great. Love the bit Desirable and Superior. So we could have a Green Gage. Will have to send you some for coming up with that. Thanks John. Catch up soon. Shaun.
@@shaunfishes101 Hi Shaun, I thought you may appreciate the suggested name, I have googled "the Green Gage fishing fly" and received no hits other than lots of other flies with green in the name, so it seems it is a unique name. No reward is necessary if it is the name you choose, just happy to help.
Hello my friend, the chem sky's are what's killing the aquatic life .all life fir that. It's called geo engineering and as a old woodsman I too see changes
Another point yes. The more I have studied this the more it hurts. The changes over the last four years is massive. Prior to that it was slow. Have we reached the other side of the hill. But what ever happens we will see changes. and sadly, not for the better. Take care Jon. Shaun.
Love the amount of time you take to explain the fishery. Fantastic that you are sharing your knowledge with so many people.
