Dries worked a bit this morning. Not quite as good as yesterday. Wind was up a bit more. A good few on the water. But it was the small nymph's that done the damage today. Ye a good blow at Hayscastle. Quite looking forward to another. Catch up soon my common friend.
Yes it was a bit warmer the further south you were. But we was not far enough south. Mind it was not that bad in the morning. By mid day it really got going. It must have been howling up there with you. Take care Mike, and thanks. Shaun.
The fish was not the biggest of fish, but like you said it was a belter. Prime resident fish, dark back full finned and full of energy. Conditions was a bit rough. But like you seen I was hiding behind the bank. Casting was tricky as hell mind. Thanks for the watch and your time to comment Stuart. Shaun.
Love it you will fish in any condition 😂. Brilliant fishery hayscastle nice facility to get get out of the weather and warm up with that log burner. Nothing better coffee and stunning fish. Cant wait for the first trip of the year
To be honest mate we don't do enough in this stuff. We know very little in these conditions. I actually enjoy it. Mainly because its different. OK your casting has to be on it to have any chance and to remain safe. Having the right kit helps a lot mind. But I understand its not for every body. Catch up on your next vid mate. Take care and thanks. Shaun.
Nice video Shaun. I tired to fish Ynys Y Fro on the day the second storm came in and although we had the place to ourselves neither of us had a knock in four hours. We got absolutely soaked too. Usually love fishing in wild weather but it does help if the fish are up for it!
This sounds like your still moving too slow. Them fish are somewhere. They must have seen you coming. But all jokes aside I know exactly what you are saying. We can put up with any weather so long as something is happening. Good on you for getting out there. May be next time the fish will show. Take care mate. Shaun.
Either with or into mate. Thing is there were no fish on that bank that day. Unless he was a stupid fish. Currents were too strong and there would have been a lack of food there. Given the time of year and temps. Hope your keeping well. Take care mate. Shaun.
Got to be done Kevin. We fish most of our time in calmer conditions, so I look at this as a treat. You have to do so many things differently. And as we don't do so much of this stuff, there is so much to learn. Already looking forward to the next storm. Thanks for the comment Mate. Shaun.
It was Brutal mate, but brilliant. Hope to catch the next one. But this time see how well a line goes out in this stuff. For this I need some body on the camera. Until the next storm mate. Take care and thanks.
Its an experience mind isn't it. Does not really matter what we catch, its just being there. I was saying to Justin that its a shame that I could not run the stand alone camera on tripod. As this would have been great to see me casting into that stuff at the end. Not sure how it would have turned out. Hopefully someone will be with me next time so they can hold the camera. Could have done it with the gopro but you would not get to see the cast. Thanks for the comment Mark. Take care mate. Shaun.
Hi Shaun, great video as usual. Have you ever used a yellow lure ? I am going to tie some lures using yellow materials, and wondered if you have any ideas if they would be any good. Tight lines mate keep up the good work
Yellow can be deadly in the winter months Sam. Actually a lot of the brighter patterns do well on the day. Well worth having a few assortments in the box. I have never fished a pink in my life until last year. It was given to me. And it just happened that on this day they really wanted it. I have fished it a bit now and then. Some times it does nothing other day it gets the odd one. But nothing like that first day. I am sure if I was to fish it more often, it would have more fish. Its a bit like a pudding. I don't have one every day. Catch up soon mate. Good look with the patterns. I am sure they will also do well on the day. Shaun.
It seems the fish prefer I storm mate.. I noticed this yesterday... I actually caught a 6.5lb fish that I caught back in Oct... Twas hard fishing but I managed a 6 and a 7lber
Honestly mate I have had some really good fishing in these conditions. Several years back Storm Ciara. All I had to do was put my line in and hold on. Intermediate line and a lure. Cast in, pull line straight. And by the count of three or four the fish was on. The waves were pushing into a narrow corner, and it seemed all the fish were there. Thing is they were all good fish. Like resident fish. Smallest was around 3lb. Lost count of fish, and I only done about one and a half to two hours. But I have not had a day quite like that since. Like every day fishing. Good one and not so good ones. Mind there all good ones if you know what I mean. Catching the same fish twice I have had a few times myself. On one occasion I got snapped one early morning. Later that day one of the boys shouted me. I think I have your fly. He caught the fish that snapped me. I bet the weather with you was real rough, and a good bit colder. Hard men up there mate. And I understand why you have that amazing beard. Take care. Shaun.
@@shaunfishes101 😂.... The beard maketh the man... Apparently 😂 Talking of catching the same fish.. My pal Gordy was out today... He caught the same 7lber I caught 4 months ago, and my other pal caught that same fish last month... That's 3 of us who've caught the same fish.. I'll bet that fish was disappointed it never saw me again eh 😂 😂 😂
@@Caithnessflyfisher Must think he's a carp. You don't hear of the big fish being caught often like that. He will be so frightened to eat any thing now. Don't tell the fishery owner. If he thinks these fish keep being caught he may not bother to put any more in.
We are often up for a challenge. So we fish these conditions when ever we get the chance. On a few occasions the fishing has been amazing. And more often with a slow intermediate just to keep the line out of the surf. Thanks for the comment James. Take care mate. Shaun.
It seems you fish the same pond all the time. If so why? Does your country have restrictions/regulations that keep the common folk from fishing certain water?
No he does fish a other ponds like his other videos think it was nine oaks and quite a few garnffrwd and ellidine ect. Must admit with hayscastle on your door step why not. Not sure what you mean by common folk.
Hi Greg, there is a lot of reasons why Hayscastle is a number one water, and why people from around the country travel to fish here. Its the quality of water and fish. The balance of stock fish and resident fish. And it is a well established and maintained lake with great facilities for the angler. We test a lot of our patterns on this water due to the amount of resident fish. If this were more stock fish we would learn nothing. I do enjoy established quality waters. And for most of them are a good trip away. This takes money that I have not got a lot off. Also this channel is more about learning. So rather than do it sat in my living room. I would rather you learn while we are on the water. Some will say, yes it works there, but what about here. Any body asks that obviously has not fished much. Every water is going to be different. And I am not going to fish them all. And I don't think you should say common folk. Nobody is better than the next man. Thanks for the comment Greg. But I hope you understand a bit better now. Take care mate. Shaun.
You are absolutely correct. The gusts at times is what will catch you out. But I have fished these conditions for years and I am on my guard. My stance is always one foot in front of the other so that it helps when knocked off balance. Lucky for me there are not many big trees. Mind not saying that a tree does not fall on my way home on the road. Thanks for the pointer and comment Gary. Take care mate. Shaun.
Hi Shaun, what a great video, in a way so different in many way, well done for sticking it out in those trying conditions, keep um coming

Can you remember how to get there. I have seen what you have said. Naughty man. See you soon mate. Really looking forward to it.
Shaun, I can't beleive you are fishing in that weather but it clearly paid off. some very nice trout once again. Some of those gusts were crazy.

I was at my daughter in Falkirk Scotland when Isha broke.
I fished a venue called Drumtassie, but I could only fish until 2pm.

Yeah what do you mean by common people !!!, Hayscastle attracts top class people from all over the country because Hayscastle is a top class fishery
A bit dangerous. You can be blown in by a gust or hit by a branch.
