I want a sports car that doesn’t scrape the ground because it’s too low. I want it to be fast as hell. I want to be able to not have to be a contortionist to get in/out of it. I want it to be able to carry some things here and there but I don’t want a big box pickup truck and I don’t want a boring azz typical suv. This M6 works. I don’t care about gas consumption if I have the money to buy it for $100K. I don’t care that I have to slow down around curves because I KNOW it’s not a friggn sports car layout. This works! And it’s different! Thanks for the review!
Full on car guy here. Bought my 2020 X6 for my wife, but it’ll also do duty towing my enclosed car hauler packed with either my Z4M Coupe or my 911 C2S (both 3-pedal manuals) to various tracks around the east for HPDEs. I love this thing and in Riverside Blue, she’s a stunner! Just a hair less utility than an X5 or a Porsche Cayenne, but a 7,200 lbs towing capacity and plenty of plush, comfortable room for me, the wife, and our two boys and i’m happy with my purchase. Looks are subjective and I get not everyone likes the honkey tonk badonkadonk this thing has, but i’ll tell you one thing: it isn’t boring. There are far too many boring cars out there and this one is a head turner.
In the last week I traded in my 2019 Model S 100D (after owning for 14 months) for a 2021 X6 M5.0. From my point of view, the Tesla is decent car with great performance but lacks the features/function/comfort of a comparable BMW. Early August, I took the Tesla on a road trip from Phoenix to Lake Tahoe and only achieved 75% of stated range and coupled with extended charging times (35 min charge actually took 1+ hr) added 5 hours to the trip. I was very disappointed in the level of road noise in the Tesla. At times the AC stopped blowing cold air and required to be turned off then on. The Tesla is in a dire need of a refresh.
Comfort and Adaptive mode are for loping around so they don't expect you to be hustling at speed. Adaptive when a route is planned in my 7 is extraordinary
It's a marmite car. You either love it or hate it. Doesn't seem to be an inbetween setting. I hate Marmite, but I do love THIS latest version of the X6. And especially in this 50i version.
The answer to price elasticity is the Porsche Cayenne S and above. How do they sell compared to EVs? Me personally, I will not buy an EV until there are no gas stations remaining or gas powered vehicles produced.
Excellent work, M. I was looking forward to your X6 video and your thoughts on it. I like it a lot, but I wish BMW didn't half ass the rear bumper design, and I agree, it needs more color inside. A caramel interior with some wood would've made it much pleasing to the eye. I'm not a fan of the cerium gray accents on the car, it looks great on wheels, but not the grille. Also, Hundred grands and they didn't tick the B&W speakers option???! For shame. As to your question, M, I'm not sure how to answer it, I spent the night thinking about it and I still don't really have a proper answer. I suppose its the same catch-22 with the other EV segments. Battery prices, energy prices, infrastructure (grids, charging stations & power plants), reliability, convenience, government rebates and regulations. As for the luxury SUV segment, I think its too early to tell whether the EV propulsion will successfully replace the ICE (traditional or hybrid) or not. We'll have to see how the E-tron (both variants), I-pace, EQC & upcoming iX3 fare out over the next few years to get an assessment of the market. They have to match or exceed the sales of their ICE+ counterparts globally to prove they can be a commercially viable alternative. As for the X6, BMW sold over half a million X6s since it first came out 12 years ago. Sure, it didn't gain traction in the US, but its popular aboard. I see you're wearing the MHD watch, it looks great!
Good to see you back in one piece. You are missing the point of this: it is not a car in the traditional sense, but a fashion accessory for people who want to flaunt their wealth. The high price IS the perceived value, just as with a Gucci handbag or a Hermes scarf.
Great review as always MotoMan. I couldn’t bring myself to spend $100K on a baby buggy though. This episode really made me think of your conversation this last week on Inside the MotoMan Studio with Bob Lutz where he talked about BMW simply having too many vehicles that are so similar to each other that they are basically competing with themselves. I believe he even mentioned the X6 by name. I also agree with you that EV’s will eventually be the future especially in this segment of vehicles.
Good to see you at full power again MM I thought BMW had seen sense and stopped charging a subscription for Apple CarPlay?? Also has the wireless integration got any better? I had a Passat recently and the wireless CarPlay was good connection wise.
Well to answer your question at the end of the review my lease on 2018 X6 M coming up In Nov and my wife owns a Tesla model 3 I love my X6 the performance, handling style and everything about it. I’ve been a BMW driver all my life but I am picking up a Tesla model Y after I return this As you have mentioned there is no more runway left for These combustion engine cars and unfortunately my beloved BMW have fell behind and forced me to make this hard but logical decision
In light of the future transition to EVs, and the unexplainable hypnotic appeal of this humpback (saw another commenter mention it looks like a dog taking a dump!), less practical SAV "coupe", I was also wondering your thoughts on the car makers' inherently flawed move to hot vee twin-turbo engine designs in the effort to boost performance while reducing emissions. Such technology works great for short term race track circuits, but faces heat dissipation challenges with long term transportation needs of daily drivers. It just makes me want to hold on to my NA 4.2L V8 Audi till they turn off the petrol!!
Thanks, Matthew! Worked pretty well. Only feedback is you cannot fully personalize the HUD or more importantly, the instruments/nav directly in front of the driver.
You forgot to do the missile trunk test. The ev question is interesting. Tesla has a real advantage with the supercharger network but when infrastructure catches up, I’d imagine $80k - $90k would be the price of an electric X6
Good to see you. The car: I am really shocked. This is simply tasteless. And a clear sign that european exterior car styling is going china. The interior on the other hand still continues design elements from a long time ago. The look when you sat in the back was priceless :-D
When I come out of my drive I can go 25mph. I then get onto a dual carriageway and I can get up to the dizzying heights of 30mph. Then I am at my local supermarket and the next stop is home. Locally I can reach mind-warping speeds of 55mph. Would a 100K investment in a glorified shopping trolley be justified?
Welcome back! I definitely think that cars like this, that are more stylish than practical, should be EV only. I drive a GLK350 daily and a CLK500 on the weekends.
The x6 isn't for me but I'm impressed by the X5 45e. I'm having a hard time convincing my partner though who dislikes the styling. The x7 is a bit better looking but no plug-in hybrid option. Looks like we'll probably get another A8
No EV yet - I need a new car next year though, my current BMW is going back. I might upgrade to a PHEV. EV´s and battery technology are not there yet for me.
Well if I wanted an SUV in the BMW line up it would be the X5 or X3. More practical and far better visability. The X4 and X6 are just FUGLY with alot less useable cargo space.

Great Review. The add on options were well explained. This is a car one does not need but most will want

So glad you are back sir. Another outstanding review and insightful take on the current trend and this ahem vehicle lol.
Thank you, Seth!
Welcome Back Motoman!!! We missed you.
Missed you guys as well . . . Will be doing more episodes soon . . .
Soooooo glad you are doing well!!,👍🏿👏🏿🙏🏿
Welcome back! Glad to have you back in great shape! Stay safe.
Thank you, Muyiwa!

Beautiful car and I'd much prefer to trade in my X5 for an X6
I love it!
Was just driving an E39 M5 earlier today man has BMW ever lost their way.

Great show love it. Would be great to include the important statistics in metric as well. We all don’t live in the US. 🙂

Great work Motoman. Love your videos. How was the head up display on this? Was it on the windshield? Was it nice to use?

@@MotoManTV oh ya that is a drag. Thanks for getting back to me. Have a great weekend.
There’s ugly, and then there’s whatever this is. 😖

HA! Haven't done that in a while . . . :)

You may want to watch my recent episode with Bob Lutz . . . he expands on your comment: ua-cam.com/video/L3weEmInfvQ/v-deo.html
Agreed!

Someone curbed those rims ... ouch!
I miss your video
Good news! You will start seeing more 'new' episodes with me back at the wheel . . .
The 523 HP 2020 BMW X6 M50i, Vmax=130MPH= 210 KPH ????????????

Is the dress black or blue? Is the car green or brown? The world may never know...
(It’s green, by the way! ;) )
What about back viewing. I heard lot crying about the Mazda didn’t have good back viewing vision....bla..bla
just get X4M.. save the weight... same power.. more prestige.
BMW just looks cheaper and cheaper with each new generation...
Along with the GLC Coupe this is one of the say top 5 douche bag-mobiles :P
OMG!!! What happened with BMW designers?? That X6 is UGLY!!!!!
Endless money pit
That’s an absurd car at a even more outrageous msrp. Bmw has too many cars now and I think you’re not being truly honest with reviews.

There's no need for this car.......I don't get it.
