The 8 is probably the best looking BMW for a while - not a SUV person over here - but, they are growing, getting heavier and heavier.
“There’s a delay in acceleration” yeah no crap when your in 7th gear and the transmission has to downshift 😂
I recall reading a bit of inside info saying these were actually supposed to be new 6 Series, but then BMW decided to add 2 to the name and get crazy with the price. With all your mention of body motion not befitting a high dollar Ultimate Driving Machine, that kinda checks out. Shame, because the GC is pretty.
I’ve seen the 8 Seriies GC in the showroom and agree it is possibly the best looking BMW in a long time.
Wonder why the B58 has been tuned to 335 HP rather than the 382 HP of the M340i?
It’s the older version of the engine - gen 1. The new engine in m340i is b58 tu with few different parts including eg hpfp. I guess it’s also to give bigger differentiation between 840 and 850. But primarily there is a long development time on these - so this engine has been put in already years back.
@@Timilias
Hey thanks for the explanation! 👍
It's more to do with BMW's marketing, the m340i is an 'm performance model' whereas the 840i is the entry level 8 series, they'd have to call it the m840i but there's already the m850i and they dont want to take sales away from that. It actually puts out around 360hp anyway as bmw always undersells their performance.
That is one good looking car
In my opinion most attractive 4 door car
As always, excellent work, M.
Cover the engine with Tupperware!😂 made my day😂😂
Just wait two years. Then purchase one for half price with under 20K in miles.
yeah there's no way in hell i'd pay 90k base for this oof
Robert Bonefant How is any Mercedes or Audi any different? It’s rhetorical.
@Robert Blackford prolly just needed new spark plugs or ignition coils no big deal
@Robert Blackford had a 3 series, by 35000 miles, the air had quit, the sunroof stopped working, and it overheated on a trip to south Texas. Needless to say couldnt wait to trade that pos in
Buying one of these now (2 years later) for £40k instead of the £85k with 22k miles
I love mine. It was a BMW managers car. Was a year and a month old when I bought it well got it on the BMW finance deal. 5k miles on the clock. It’s a lovely piece of kit. Never ever thought I would sell my six. I hope they don’t release a 10 Series......
How i miss the 80’s and 90’s
This is the only testing video on this 840i that introduced or presented that what BMW has done on the weight saving. Maybe BMW hasn’t nailed it but at least, it is good to know what material used on panels, bumpers, engine mount, etc. Knowledgable this video it is. Thank you!
Regarding the pitch, roll and dive point, the sportier versions of the 8GC, as in M850i and M8, will definitely handle sharper and be more controlled.
The BMW 840i G16 is an outstanding sports limousine that truly excels in performance and comfort. The power it delivers is exceptional, providing more than enough thrust to make every drive exhilarating. Its stability at high speeds is impressive, with minimal body roll during cornering, ensuring a secure and engaging driving experience.
The braking system is superb, offering confident and reliable stopping power that complements the car's dynamic capabilities. The build quality is top-notch, reflecting BMW's commitment to luxury and precision. With a fully equipped interior, the 840i G16 combines cutting-edge technology and high-end materials to create an environment of ultimate comfort and refinement.
While the vehicle’s sound may be somewhat subdued due to the particulate filter (OPF), this does not detract from its overall excellence. The 840i G16 is a well-rounded sports limousine, blending ample power with unparalleled comfort. It's a car that stands out for its performance, driving pleasure, and luxurious features.
Contrary to what might be implied by some reviews, this vehicle is far from being just a quiet luxury car; it delivers both in terms of driving dynamics and comfort. It's a true testament to BMW's ability to engineer a car that satisfies both sporty ambitions and luxurious expectations.
I think the AMG GT 4-Door with 53 Engine is the better option in my opinion. You get a better drive train and the AMG look - which I would prefer over this car.
It’s not a real AMG.
@@ramonj08 Actually, it is.
I too love the AMG GT 53, but it's a LOUD cabin, almost like every noise bounces around inside the cabin. It's literally the reason I didn't buy one.
Different driving experience than the BMW 8 series!
I cant decide which is sexier, the new Audi A7 or the 8GC
The current CLS is a disappointment though
What about the AMG GT 4 Door?
@@meta-verse
Both the CLS and GT4Door look like Salamanders to me
I dont think those designs are ageing very well either
@@joecool9739 Driving Autobahn in Germany you see those models all the time. I like the AMG GT4 much better, although it's not the prettiest either.
Last gen A7 for the win.. These are all kinda ugly and there is too much going on
8GC all the way.
the same package im gonna buy it for sure
It is a very very good looking car inside and out 👍🏼
That's right ask the tough questions.
If you have the money just get the M850. But if you really have the money get the M8GCC.
The funny thing is the 840i is more expensive then the m850i in Sweden 😭
The default modern approach to reviewing a BMW; cynical.
His points are valid.
From the opening line you hear the narrative: "ok, how has BMW screwed this up now?" and "so, the boys at BMW is trying to pull a fast one on us again, building crap and selling it for premium money..."
He's got a few valid point, but this is a great car! Objectively, that is.
Window line is directly from Kia Stinger
Something a Kia buyer would be proud of: “My Stinger has the roofline of a BMW 8 series, for half the price.”
Fun to have magnesium under the dashboard by the way :p WHOOF when it catches fire xD
Chances are the braking distance was a factor of entry level all season RFT tires, being an 840i.
It is very very pretty. That's what makes it so sad that it's 1000lb too heavy for me and doesn't come with a manual
Ah, I should have known it would be the BMW you were gonna review and not the classic Jag in the reflection ... cause I found the classic Jag video you did 3 weeks ago, yay!
:)
Great review
Enjoy your reviews!
excellent review! I wonder if the Panamera v6 is a better car for around the same price as the 840i
Bmw m8 grand coupe is the best looking bmw
Areku06 it looks very good and I agree
Yea
One sexy ride!
They screwed up by not offering active roll stabilization on the 840i, it comes standard on m850i and M8.
This looks like like a bigger nissan maxima
I love it, the V8 version though;)
It looks the business but the lack of a V8 at that price point makes it ridiculously over priced! You've got to be over 400hp for that kinda cash and probably under 5 sec to 60 even if its a luxury and not performance sedan.
What did you think of the laser lights? Is it difficult to speak to the quality of headlights? Outside of Consumer reports no one ever talks about how good/bad the headlights are. Thanks love your show and it’s great to have you back!
I did talk about the laser lights in this episode and what SHOULD be on offer in the US in their place . . .ua-cam.com/video/DL5nMyhuAuw/v-deo.html
In my country, this same car is US$200K lol
It's a nice vehicle, but I'm not sure that the market niche it occupies really exists. If I wanted a sporty 4-door German saloon the base Panamera 4 seems like it would be a better driving car, Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door is more exciting (personally not sure about the looks) or maybe even S-Class coupe. The Audi A7 has a more special interior and better tech and then there's the Tesla Model S if you want something practical and a bit more left-field. A Good-looking car but not sure it needs to exist...E-Class/A6 for the daily and lightly used 911 for the same money for me
The only car you mentioned there that's similar in price is the A7
Like the alpina version
I'd rather get a Panamera, this car is kind of a joke but it does look sexy
Why would bmw invest in making the engine look good? Most of their customers will never open the hood. When I go to dealerships and ask to see under the hood of a car I test drove, the response from the dealer is always "why?". Umm, because I like to see the engine of the car I'm about to drive. One guy even asked me "do you open the hood on rental cars and look at the engine?" yes. I even look at the engine of u-hauls. I am not normal.
😂😂
These are 55k now motoman what are your thoughts used under 40k miles for a daily?
The key is low miles and A LOT of warranty left. If you have both, you're good.
@MotoManTV what goes bad? Pockets are not bottomless but i can budget 10k for issues over 30k miles
how do you get more warranty on a used car? I'm 22 and pretty unaware of a lot of this market. Any help would be awesome@@MotoManTV
The 8 services just cones off as a specialty car. A car that shows off technology. Other than that. No wow factor.
Would you say the M850 Gran Coupe would be significantly more fun to drive than this, worth the large price delta?
Gran coupes are trash. Just get a coupe or a sedan with a normal roofline
@@headcas620 I think GCs are a great middle between coupe and sedan. Very sleek
Probably would be in my opinion. You get a v8 plus and a much better sound. It's a lot faster plus i would guess it handles better. The M8 is even on a different level than the m850i haha, but I don't know how comfortable it would be.
11:30 - Watch the Morgan grille reflection, see all that orange peel.
Oh the red
This is a car for boulevard cruising
Hah, who would use plastic parts in side an engine, of course to make them break 😒😑
I don’t like that grey bumper/diffuser thing on the back of the car, it should match the body color. Also the fake exhaust tips are offensive.
To heavy your 3 and 5 series will pass this and other competitors will as well not worth it I was hoping for a 860 with a V12
Good looking yes, but performance trends down and the price while not bad for the value suffers when compared to BMW AND MERCEDES!
This is the only review I have seen on the net that is so negative about the BMW. It's good to get a balanced view but it feels he just doesn't like BMW and wants to dislike it. Coupe doesn't mean 4 doors, coupe means a sloped roof.
It looks like the KIA stinger ... but is it better value for money
Bmw getting too fancy and gaudy they need to get back to basics at least for one model
Why not get the CT6-V for under 100k, way bigger and more room with AWD and AWS.
The rear quarter view from the back looks like a Chevy Malibu. A car at that price shouldn't look like $35k car.
Funny . . . we may just be having that discussion in a couple of weeks . . .
That interior looks suspiciously similar to the Avalon, esp, around the center stack.
mid 300 hp/tq for 90k? ehhhhhh
the e34 did not need a plastic engine cover.....
Interior is bland IMO
As if a Sea of Black is better? Going with some shiny black mixed with a bit of silvery bits would make the interior better in your eyes?
Love your reviews but the way you rest your hands on the paint and sit on the cars bothers me. Any true car guy would be bothered.
Buy it used in 2 yrs for 50k
And you pay $40k to fix the car in 5 years
Six cylinder for 90K is a joke. Forget the swarovski crystal shift knob for 90K lol you can buy a cheaper M5 for better.
I don’t like anything BMW is doing at the moment! The 8 series looks downright cheap inside. That engine is a perfect example of how the attention to detail has been lost.
BMWs nowadays arent the 'ultimate driving machine' in its segment anymore....... I dont even need to test drive this from the lag of the acceleration and how much the car leans in corner I already know my Panamera 4E is a better choice. And the Panamera will always look more premium than this 8 series although I also believe its the sexiest BMW.
I prefer 2door coupé..sporty and mean...4doors are for mommies going to grocery..
I'm glad I'm not the only person who thinks this looks as much like a Kia Stinger as the 2-door coupe (as opposed to the 4-door coupe 🤦♂️) looked like a Mustang.
So the styling is derivative, the engine is ugly, it's heavy and ponderous in corners, and the interior is clinical in design. But hey! At least it's expensive!
Becore More Workaholic when you have to pay this off.
Car is ugly. It’s too big and bulky, the back looks like a Nissan. The older version looks a lot nicer.
MotoMan shaming BMW for their ugly engine and poor braking.
No matter what car BMW makes - if I had the money I'd buy something els. Not just because it's a peice of crap - but charging for iPhone connectivity after one year? I don't even have an iPhone - it's just the cheap ass mentality from BMW that drive me nuts. Shitty quality, no goodwill/lousy warranties and as a bonus you have to pay to keep hardware you bought activated.
How can we take someone serious that has his hands in a ‘ten to two’ position… 🤦🏼♂️
Modern BMWs are meh
Julian Felipe Granados Flórez modern bmw’s are not meh they look nicer than the older ones, well for me
@@carguyns4348 I like older ones more but new ones are amazing
The very latest BMW interiors are becoming bland.
No
Quit cuts & flashes of car close ups make the worst car videos. I could not get past 1:10
Good, now cry
The BMW 8series is ugly
Atrack gotkeys no this gorgeous
An ugliest BMW ever.
Indigo oh heck no this thing is gorgeous
