I kinda got discouraged at first before I got my guitar I bought it it's been a week and a half and you've helped alot with my learning I haven't even needed to pay for lessons you've helped me so much thank you so much
Another addition to help even more: start at a BPM comfortable for you. Mine is 60. Once you can get all 4 strums down and switch quickly without messing up(includes buzzing/dead notes. Fix your mistakes before you get in bad habits) increase the speed by 5 or 10 BPM. Continue doing this(no rush though) for as long as you like. If you struggle with switching in higher BPMs, go back down to one or two strums every 4 beats until you can switch easily. Remember to not rush and to always correct mistakes!
This is the best instruction video on this chord change that I have found. Funny how something as simple as moving the first two fingers to start the C makes it easier. Thank you for this and all of your videos. Very helpful!
This is very helpful, thank you! I took guitar lessons for like a year back in 2014 or so but i have forgotten pretty much everything and all of the sudden i got this urge to play waiting by George Michael and I think i can play the whole song with just these two chords so this was exactly what i needed. Perfect! Thank you
This was so helpful I cant believe I learnt this😭 I have been practising this for an hour and I can already make the switches till the last exercise. Your way of teaching is amazing. I never thought somebody could explain all the nitty gritties so clearly. Thank you so much.
I’ve been playing for 5 days and i can switch to these chords after strumming each chord 4 times like in this video. It’s not the cleanest but I have the muscle memory and switch directly to each chord rather than placing one finger down at a time. I’ve also noticed that being put under pressure like this video really helps me. Thanks!!
Love the simplicity of the Video. You show us the steps. And after that its just up to us to practice. Great lesson! Improved so much in a 30 min session!
Hey Mario, when you put the time and energy into it, you can really improve in a short amount of time. Sometimes it's not about how long we practice, but how we practice. Glad it helped! - James
Learning to Play the Guitar and the englisch Language at the same time . Thank you so much. Greetings from Hamburg Germany from Gruß aus Hamburg Deutschland von Stephan
Thank you so much brother I am learning so fast the way you explained it. Soon I’ll be able to play the guitar to the lord Jesus and even write songs to him. God bless your soul
first time trying it. could do it up until the last one where we switched after the fourth beat. i’m going to use this vidoe more and hopefully i improve!
Love how you teach! But I can tell I’m tensing up my fretting hand too much because my brain doesn’t wanna connect to my dang left fingers! Any advice? I don’t want to kink my wrist or wreck my thumb! How do you relax your hand that you need each knuckle to behave!? 😝
I was given an old Yamaha fg-75 needs fret work. The cost of re-fretting is more than the value of the fg. In the market for a new one. I see you have an acoustic/ electric; I am curious about its performance and sound. I have only been playing for a couple weeks. I have a $250 budget. Do you have any recommendations ?
Learn the correct fingering and then learn the finger memory by "hopping"; finger the chord and then strum once and lift the fingers off the borsd but keep the fingers in chord shape. Put the fingers back down and strum once. Repeat hundreds of time for memory. Then, move up and down the board using the same chord. After learning this, do switching. Pick a second chord and play, very slowly, between the two chords with one strum. Get that down so it is smooth at a good BPM. Add a third chord and repeat as per two chords. Eventually changing will hapen withh little effort.
Thank you Good Guitarist. I will do this practice because I do feel sad for the terrible progression I go from C to G and vice versa and makes me feel daunting that how will I do the later stuffs if I cannot even do proper switching like these. But I will practice this further more and will update soon. Thank you so much.
Is it easier to use your forefinger if you're utilizing the third fret what's your pinky and ring finger down the whole time and then just using your two and that's in middle finger to go up and down from the 4th and 5th to the 5th and 6th?
Hello from France, this is surely the best lesson I've seen on how to practise switching from C to G, with which I still have great difficulty at the moment. Thanks a lot! I see you need to put your fingers on the thickest strings first, then on the thinnest strings - unfortunately I did the opposite at first :( but am gradually trying to correct this with daily practice. Just one thing puzzles me: other teachers use the 'three-finger' G and say this is the STANDARD bluegrass G, while others deny this and play the G like you. This is a bit confusing! since bluegrass is the style I wish to play. I guess you recommend the 4-finger G? [PS Playing a C add 9 is the easy way out, so out of the question!]
Good Guitarist no but like honestly man I was really struggling and after your video it all kinda came together for me, I’ve been working on this song for a girl and I wrote the lyrics and my friend helped me compose it, I had to teach myself to play guitar in a very short amount of time and your video pulled me together, now I can play the song fluidly, doing it in a few days, thanks so much man! The video is so simple yet so helpful, probably the best on UA-cam, I definitely owe you man!
My fingers need to be placed down individually for some reason, which is making it hard to switch fast. Any tips? Or is it really just keep practicing until your hand gets faster?
Oh bet im over here like what am i supposed to do, and so I watched this video once and now im the physical embodiment of queen. nah im jk but really helpful tips man, very good exercise.
Switching from g to c is easy just u need to focus on ur middle finger and other finger will automatically move but it's for those who can do g ,em,c,d progression
i am a beginner and while placing fingers for a chord, i place each of the fingers one by one. How can i get a clear transition by placing all the fingers at once like you do ? Please guide me for it
At first, that's really what everybody does. But if you work on groups of chords that have similar positions, you will learn how to position just a couple of them at a time to make different chords. I highly recommend checking out some of my videos that go over basic chord progressions as well as basic chord switching.
Hey Brandon, no shame there, it's a good idea to consult a video to make sure that you're doing the basics correctly, sometimes it's the only way to ensure a solid foundation.
My problem is that during a song if you silent the strings after playing the chords like here it'll make a gap.. and if I don't, I can hear the strings when I left my fingers from them.. does that even make sense..

Way to fast for this 80 year old guy. I'll stay with it no matter how long it takes but it's been 2 months, about 30 min per day. This is tough but thanks. I'll take your course when I figure out how to put it all together and it's not so overwhelming. Jarhead
Technically, that could work but it's a little more complicated than what Yousician says... it's a little much to explain on here... I do it all in my new beginner's course, if you're interested ;) goodguitarist.com/beginner-guitar-course/
There are more than 1 way to make a chord. The 3 fingered G is easier to switch to a C with. I'm a beginner, too, so learning alternative chords is important.
The three string version is easier to switch to if you use 2,3,4 fingers for the G chord, then switching to C might be easier .... depending on how strong your pinkie is. From my limited experience.

My fingers need to be placed down individually for some reason, which is making it hard to switch fast. Any tips? Or is it really just keep practicing until your hand gets faster?

What tempo are you practicing these at? Also in you paid lesson series do you have longer practice sessions like these?
These are done at about 60bpm, and yes, in the paid lessons we go over the switching in depth.

You can play the C chord with only putting your index finger down if that's easier for you.
Sb Developers it’s always hard in the beginning, but yeah like he said, you can just put your index finger down and play the bottom three.
