The way you got quieter and quieter and didn't want to stop vibing. This song is one of, if not the, best examples of Taylor's writing skills. When you pair it with Would've Could've Should've, it's like two puzzle pieces coming together.
Before All To Well there was Dear John - track 5 off Speak Now. 100% a diss track to John Mayer. It’s a superior song worth checking out (also gives context to Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve off Midnights)
Wow I love your Taylor reactions, been waiting for this... the way you felt like it wasn't 10 minutes is how everyone of us felt 🤣.. Also you're right this is a heartbreak song with some painful lyrics and dissing lines. We literally never moved on from 'you kept me like a secret but I kept you like an oath' 🥺 So All Too Well is a song from her 2012 album RED, and you're right this isn't about a made up character, the song is about Jake Gyllenhaal, her ex boyfriend. The song had a 20minutes length in process of writing, but they made it into 10 minutes after completing the process of writing. But in 2012 it was released in 5minutes length in order to fit the album and actually no one (fans) knew if the song originally was of 10 minutes. The song was never a single when the album came out, but it became fans favorite. Most of Swifties are agreeing that All Too Well is the best song off Taylor's discography, and in her surprise Taylor found fans over scream and had insurmountable love for the song whenever she performed it despite not being a single. And in explaining about the song, she found herself revealing that the song originally is 10 minutes long and that was her biggest mistake ever because Swifties never stopped begging her to release the 10 minutes of their fandom defining song. I think Taylor didn't know how she would release it, but then came the RE-RECORDING thing where she used it as a chance to include vault tracks (songs that initially didn't make it to the album) in it. So when RED (Taylor's Version) which is a re-recording to 2012's RED album, ATWTMVTV was released as a vault track and every swiftie was losing it. The song ended up topping billboard hot 100 and made a record for the longest song to ever score #1 spot on billboard hot 100 and that's without radio support. The song came out with music video which came out as a short film written and directed by Taylor Swift herself. The video has won best video in VMAs, MTV EMAs, AMAs and nominated for best music video on Grammys too. ATWTMV is also nominated for the song of the year on Grammys too. And That's how this song is so special to Taylor and the Swifties.
Thanks for mentioning that Taylor changes her “hooks” up, for different verses or parts of the song, bc that’s one of my favorite parts of her songwriting. I think it keeps it interesting, and makes it so much more fun to listen and sing along too, and this song does a GREAT job of that!
thank you so much for reacting to this. I love this song with every fiber of my being. Taylor is a lyrical genius and it hits harder knowing she went through all of this with Jake G. The line "sipping coffee like you're on a late night show" refers to him and his interview on television and comparing it to him talking with her dad.
also if you dont know, track number 5 on all of her albums is always the most apecial song on the album to taylor. and i also wanted to let you know that Marjorie on evermore is about taylors grandmaw, marjorie, passing away.
I'm sure someone must have informed you of this by now, but folklore and evermore are exceptions insofar as they not as autobiographical as all of her other albums. Except for folklore/evermore, she is always writing from her own experience.
yeah so theres big debate about folklore and evermore. they are the only two albums, according to her, that arent about herself. However, I believe that is a lie she tells because in reality, folklore and evermore are so personal to her that she didnt want people to know. i believe it is because most of the songs on folky and evermore are about joe alwyn, and she didnt want people to kmow that because she wanted her relaionship to stay private while still being able to express her feelings about it. but yeah, all to well and wouldve couldve shouldve are definitely about jake gyllenhal.
By the way, UA-cam, these are her own words have you not watched her documentary that’s all over UA-cam I’m not saying anything that she didn’t say so calm down, sometimes a well placed curse just like Taylor did about what happened to her in her life that can relate to somebody and grab them by the chest like it’s happened to me! stop interrupting a comment because of the emotion behind it !! Learn the difference!
I had a giggle when you said it was only a scarf and not her panties because it’s pretty understood by her fandom that the scarf is a metaphor for her virginity

All too well (but also a big part of the album Red) is about Jake Gyllenhal, they dated when she was 20-21 and he was like 29 I believe
Absolutely love your reactions, love how into it you always get!

Also yeah this is about Jake Gyllenhaal! A lot of songs on Red are about Jake!
❤️

I'm excited for this
I love Taylor ❤❤❤❤
This song is in fact about her past relationship. You are right 🎉

Please do a reaction of her album Red :D

Watch Ronin, it'll break you.
Why would you break someone like that😭
I had a giggle when you said it was only a scarf and not her panties because it’s pretty understood by her fandom that the scarf is a metaphor for her virginity
That doesn't make sense though- she was with John before jake
