Somehow I've never seen these flares, great vid I'm damn sure getting these now. Been running no flares on a grinder cut with 35's, this is going to help so much.

Question: Which snorkel kit do you have? I'm shopping. I have the rusty armor flares on my XJ as well, and it looks like some of the kits overlap where the fender flares mount but your kit seems to sit perfect just above the flare.

Hey love your video's,I am a old gearhead my self.my son is sucking me into trail riding and building up a jeep xj.he just got one at a loan bank that was repo,he got it for $500.00.Had to put a water pump on it and a tuneup. It's bone stock. He has seen your video's and came to me,and said dad can you do that to my jeep.I do not know alot about lifting a jeep, but i am sure i can do it,but i know if i lift it 3 inch, he will come back to me and want it lifted again. He will be using it as a daily driver.do not want any road walking.I think that 36"inch tire like one of your first video's would be good. What ROUGH COUNTRY LONG ARM KIT FOR FRONT AND REAR WOULD BE THE RIGHT KIT?I know that you used the rusty's 8 1/2 inch spring on the front and the rough country 6 1/2 inch rear springs on the rear.with the drop downs.I know that i will have to go with the over knuckle 1 ton steering kit to get the steering right.Would like to get he's jeep looking like the xj in your first video.can you send me the info on everything that you used and did to your xj.email is james.d.bowen63@gmail.com AND THANKS FOR THE HELP, P.S. I HAVE SUBSCRIBED TO YOUR VIDEO'S AND YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB ON THEM.THANKS AGAIN.

Just a note when dealing with Rustys.
I wanted to save sales tax and shipping by driving to their Out of state shop since I live in Georgia but they said they would still have to charge Ga sales tax and wouldn't budge on shipping charge even if I drove there and picked it up.
I was going to pay cash.
The sales rep I was dealing with quit communicating with me on a package deal where I was going to buy bumpers, lift and some other stuff.
I ended up getting my stuff elsewhere......you know how they say a shop is only as bad as their worst employee......I think I got that guy because I've heard good things about Rustys which is why I wanted to use them but why charge shipping cost of buyer wants to pick it up.
Sounds like he was rather clueless.

Good lookin XJ. What did you use to bedline it and how is it holding up?

    • @Rusty411
      @Rusty411  8 років тому +5

+flacrackeremt78 It is the UPoll Raptor Liner. I have had it on mine and my wife's jeep for over a year, and it has held up good. Get the adhesion promoter spray that Upoll sells for any smooth plastic. I also sprayed a buddy of mines jeep and it is holding up good too. In my opinion, it has the best look to it, and it won't scratch in the woods. If you subscribe, I am planning on doing a video soon on mixing and spraying it. Thanks bud!

Hey, the sticker is the logo of a snowboard glove company called "grenade gloves" . They started making MX gloves too. The company is known for being pretty rowdy and I think they went under recently. One of the founders is Danny Kass, Hes a us Olympic snowboarder and all round lunatic. Check out some of there snowboard films, they're pretty rad. Cool Jeep by the way.

i also have the rustys fenders on my 98. they were kinda $$$$ but when i weighed the cost of a whole new lift or these i chose these. im running 33s on a 3.5" lift. and more armor is more better.

I'm going to start uploading on a new account I just made a week ago....its called "jeepers creepers". I'm out here in antelope valley. My account im using now to message you is strictly for search & rescue. You'll come check me out.l & help me spread the word about the missing babies out of California city California. Appreciate it.

The plastic hose to your snorkel is a poor design. I had the same thing from Safari.
I would suggest you do what I did. Instead of letting the hose dip down and then come up like the letter J, just let it might a right turn. Cut a round hole so it can make a right turn through the metal wall, instead of turning downward just to come back up again. This allows the hose to remain within the protected confines at all times, not exposed down there where the tire can rub it or other debris can damage it. This, also, requires redesigning the way the hose goes into the airbox. I sealed off the front opening of the box with a metal plate and water tight caulking. I then cut a round hole on the airboxes front left side to meet the hole in the metal wall. I then put an attachment there from a washing machine that you can get from any home depot. Use caulking to make it water tight. Then just clamp your tube onto that new washing machine attachment. Test the entire thing by submerging the whole thing in the bathtub. Airbox with the tube attached. Not all the way, just like a boat. See if water starts coming in through the new front plate or through the seal where the tube is clamped on the new attachment. Dont let the snorkel end of the tube get under the water, of course.
This is also a good way to see if there are any holes in the tube.
There are a few other steps to water proofing your vehicle so that it can run while submerged all the way to the top of the snorkel neck indefinitely. This is just one of them.

ganador13 10-4 yeah I have to change the design of it soon been on there couple years it's getting brittle

The instructions i gave will result in you feeling very happy and strong about it. I promise.
The next thing I did was remove the distributor so it can be sealed water tight with that orange goo that turns into rubber. But anything similar will do. I then redesigned it's vent so that a clear tube could be attached to it. Now the distributor is water tight and the tube runs to the snorkel. Or to the airbox if you like. Just make a hole and attachment for the tube to clamp onto. That way the distributor gets air as well, no water going in to ruin the contacts.
You would also have to use something similar to that orange stuff on the hoses that go to the top of your valve cover. otherwise water seeps into your oil. There is a computer node near the airbox that I sealed in a heavy duty ziplock bag and applied caulking where it met the harness. You would also need to do a careful water sealing of your gauges and radio which, for me, was a complicated process of plastic boxes and more rubber sealant goo.
Alternator will begin to oxidize its interior brushes after a couple of submerges, however, there is an alternator that is immune to this, called the mean green alternator.
A rubber tube must also be attached to your oil breathers in the front and rear axles (otherwise water gets into the oil in there), as well as extending the breather tube that is coming from your fuel tank. All 3 of these tubes must be raised to a level as high as your snorkel. I have them running inside and attached to my roof with fuel filters at the end of all 3.
Aside from all of this, all that is left is comfort, which means removing inner carpet and replacing seats with something that is not a sponge. Like rubber hammock seats or just plain plastic seats.
After all of this you'd be able to drive into a swimming pool deep enough so your head is under water with the windows open, and comfortably and safely run the engine all day. I'd suggest a snorkel for your face too, though ;)
I would link pictures of what I have, but anytime I put links in youtube comments, youtube assumes I am a spam bot and blocks my comment. I can always email them or something if you'd like to see examples.
