    All that molten metal going into your nice paintwork!!!!!

      Hi David, yes, a few have been concerned with this but no issues have developed. It doesn't look ideal, but as I've mentioned before, many professional converters use this method, including Kiravans in their UA-cam tutorials. Plus, even my bare arms and legs stood up to the shower of sparks without a blemish and they were far closer proximity, so can't imagine they'd burn through the layers of paint and lacquer. Thanks for watching and commenting though. Cheers.

    As you said “bloody flies”… a bloody fly flew into my face!!
    Didn’t know you were fitting windows next, you should’ve given us a clue in the last video 😁

      We're very tight lipped around here. We'll never drop a hint! 😆

    For mastic guns I've had a lot of issues with the run-of-the-mill types and always break them. I recently purchased a heavy-duty type from Camper Van Glass for £30 and its quality. I easily installed the bug side window in my Crafter last week. Worth investing in one of the guns if you have more windows to do.

      Typo 'big' side window.

      Hi Chris, that certainly is worth knowing. TBH, this battery powered gun is good but, I think it's a lot of operator error. Plus, trying to get mastic to stick to a very hot van is like trying to get thin gravy to stick to a wall. I'm hoping most of the cutting has been done now so, hopefully, no more mastic required but, may still have a look. It'd be worth having if I never use it! 😂 Cheers.

    I don’t think the weather was on your side that day. Use a bit of silicon spray on those sliding windows. I put my black U Chanel in some hot water when I done my T6 windows, it made it easier to bend and put on the metalwork. Good job done though 👍

    • @CampervanHabitude
      @CampervanHabitude  Рік тому +1

      Ahh, great advice, I'll order some silicone spray today, Cheers. TBH, when I fitted the u channel on my T6, it was wider and much easier to put on but, that's a good point about the hot water. I had thumb ache for a day or two after fitting that one. Thanks for dropping a line.

    Nice video but I'm pretty sure that trim is only meant to finsh the inner skin, leaving the outer skin flat for the glass to bond to. Once the trim is on the inner skin it covers the gap between the 2 skins on the insde. Unless this is a different type of kit to that ive used in the past, in which case ignore me!!

    • @CampervanHabitude
      @CampervanHabitude  Рік тому +1

      Hi Shaun, I'd never ignore any comment as I appreciate you making the effort. It's an interesting point you raise. I've only ever used the thicker trim in the past. That fits over the two skins nicely. However, after struggling with the thinner trim, I checked out the Kiravans YT channel and they say they too used to pinch the two skins together when fitting the thinner channel over both skins. To be honest, which ever way we choose will work as long as it's water tight and looks good. Thanks for watching and for commenting. Mal. 👍

    The rubber beading is only meant to go on the inner skin of the metal…

    • @CampervanHabitude
      @CampervanHabitude  22 години тому

      Hi, thanks for watching and commenting. There is a rubber gasket that fits solely on the single skin. I've used that before on other builds. However, this the double gasket that is designed to go over both skins. Cheers. Mal.

    Great video. It fit perfectly, Daft question….how did you know cutting it from the inside that it would fit perfectly? Was it as simple as the instructions said so? As I’m with you…I’ve never seen anyone use the interior rails as a guide and it seemed so much easier…

    • @CampervanHabitude
      @CampervanHabitude  Рік тому +1

      Hi, I've fitted these windows before in smaller vans so I knew you had to cut along that edge that I pointed out on the inside. It is far easier cutting from the inside but, you do get a lot of metal dust flying around inside the van. It's not ideal as there is a lot of cleaning needed but, even if you were to cut from the outside and cover with plastic on the inside, you'd still have to cut the metal struts out from the inside first so, you're going to get some metal dust whichever way round you do it. I think I'd hang a dust sheet over the cab area before I do it next time.. Or cut it when the bulk head is still in. 👍

    prob the worst way of going about a window install... All the heated swarf from the grinder will dig into the fresh paint, and rust later on. Not trying to be toxic though, really hope none of these problems arise!

    Would highly recommend against using an angle grinder.. Its not at all good for the paintwork. Multitool on the supports and a nibbler on the sheet metal!

    • @CampervanHabitude
      @CampervanHabitude  Рік тому

      I'm afraid me and nibblers don't get on at all. Get what you're saying though.

      A nibbler won’t go tight to the second skin.

    I hope your pain work with stood the angle iron sparks and your gripping with a so called plyers. ... There's jobs you pay for

    • @CampervanHabitude
      @CampervanHabitude  Рік тому

      Hi Philip, yes, the paintwork has survived, no pitting. It does look brutal but, many van builders use grinders at some point in their build, including professionals such as Kiravans in their tutorials. In a previous episode I tried to use my nibbler but failed miserably and may have caused more damage. The sparks are largely directed away from the paintwork - mostly at my bare arms and legs to be honest and they survived too 😆. The water pump pliers are composite plastic coated so never caused any damage to paint. It would have been far easier if the gasket was wider though. Thanks for watching.
