  • If you look at how much RAM phones come with you may be shocked. Why? well, you can now get phones with 8GB of RAM or even 12GB. Do you really need this much RAM for your Android phone or tablet?
    The quick answer is no and in this video, I'll explain how Android uses RAM differently to a computer, which is why you don't need as much RAM as you may think.

      Thanks, I'm glad it helped. I've got a 3GB tablet and I've never had any issues with RAM. It's still the case that 4GB is enough for most people.

    Currently looking for an upgrade from a Galaxy S9.. I'm interested the S21 Ultra (not the 16GB/RAM varient.. that's just insane). Kinda leaning on upgrading for a number of reasons, one being a crack in the screen and really degrading battery life at this point.. but one thing that puts a thorn in the side is the 4GB of RAM. If I have a game open (I play Pokemon Go a lot) along with the facebook messenger bubble pop-up, generally one crashes after a short time. Forget about playing music over bluetooth in addition.. I feel like 8GB in my case would be essential as well as future proof (6GB may do it, but 8GB seems comfortable).

      My friend has 128gb of ram on his pc just because he can. And he does exactly the opposite what this guy said- he is downloading programs straight to ram instead of nvme-ssd so that they could run even faster. If you can buy phone with 16 GB of ram and it won't hurt ur budget just do it man. This guy's shirt is too tight to be trusted anyways...

    hi there, awesome video. much needed information!
    question to you, sir. would 2gb ram of an android tablet be enough to play 1 game?
    and would a 2gb ram be enough to watch movies on separately on a different day or occasion?

    • @ChromeComputingTV
      @ChromeComputingTV  3 роки тому +2

      It's difficult to say in relation to games on a tablet. 2GB is the absolute minimum and some games may not play well with 2GB. As far as watching movies. You should be fine to stream a movie with 2GB. If you can I would get 4GB of RAM though if possible.

      That depends entirely on the game. Some games struggle with 4 GB of RAM, like Genshin Impact.

    Perhaps now in 2022, if possible, I'll receive an advice from your side?
    I needed a back-up phone a few months ago and went for a Realme with 4GB RAM.
    I love it so much that I've got rid of my Samsung S20 with 8GB of RAM (which was bought second-handed and had some heating issues with it).
    The build is not as Premium, and also the photos from the Realme are really bad - but I use my Fujifilm Cameras for photos anyway.
    Beside these, I noticed that Realme with 4GB is faster in day to day usage than my old S20 (8GB) - perhaps because it has such a clean Android experience and it is a newer phone ?!?
    On the Market my Realme model comes with 4 / 6 / 8 GB of RAM - I decided to keep this model (Realme 8) for 3-4 years from now, because I really enjoy using this phone. It is perfect for my needs, and feels great in my hands. Battery also is a big plus and I have the advantage of using 2 sims and also a microSD card on this phone at the same time - so I do not need to use 2 phones anymore (which is great) and also not to give up on my microSD (where I have tons of photos storaged).
    But my question, considering that apps becomes larger and larger on Android, after 3-4 years will my Realme suit my needs with only 4GB of ram until 2025?
    I've got it on a great deal (about 125$ brand new, with 2 year warranty) and is I thought to upgrade it to the same model with 8GB of RAM (because of the larger and more consuming apps year after year). But the 8GB model, brand new, is 280$ or more. Yes, I get the double the storage (128GB instead of 64GB - but I have 200GB on my microSDCard - so...) + double the RAM - but I must pay a bit more than double the money.
    Do you think it's worth it to switch to 8GB now while this model is on the market or not - considering the long term usage?
    At the moment 4GB are really enough and consider I've received more in the packaged than the spent money (great Amoled display, great size, great battery, 2 sims option + microSD).
    So, I'm not sure if it is worth to spend more money for the extra 4GB of RAM.
    I only use only these apps: Calls, Calendar, Mail, Messages, WhatsApp, Messenger, Facebook, Documents (I write a lot on my phone) and ocassionaly UA-cam. This is it. No games at all!
    Therefore, do you have any advice for me?
    Thank you in advance and sorry for the long post (or/and poor English).
    Greetings from Romania! ^^
    PS: The version with 6GB of RAM costs nearly as much as the 8GB Model. So it is not worth to spend my money on it. (It is only 20-25$ cheaper than the 8GB model).

    • @ChromeComputingTV
      @ChromeComputingTV  Рік тому +1

      Considering the type of apps you use I'd stay with the 4GB. Also, in four years from now you may find another phone that is a suitable upgrade. If your phone is working fine stick with it. In four years from now 8GB phones will be cheaper, as I'm sure manufacturers will be shipping phones with 12 and 16GB, which you'll obviously never need on a phone.

    Very interesting and informative video. Being a noob, this explains a lot. I need a little help from you on similar topic. I edit videos on my phone using an App called Youcut. It works fine and satisfy my requirements. However, small screen size makes it little difficult to do things. I was looking for a Tab and I am kind of confused as to how much of RAM it shot have. There are lot of options for 4GB but less for 6GB. Also, 6Gb ones seems to be exponentially costlier as well!. Will a 4GB tab satisfy my needs? My kid may use it to watch UA-cam, play some games (not the advanced graphic ones). Please help. And I have also subscribed to your Channel as well

    Think you need to go back to college, in theory you are right, but in the real world Android does not work like that, plus there are hundreds of apps that keep restarting and end up using up memory and too many manufacturers fill their phones with bloatware that also use up precious memory.. Speaking from experience you need between 4-6 gb . Though 6gb or 8gb will keep your phone running smoothly, effortlessly. I've used phones with 2gb, 3gb and 6gb memory and the 6gb is the best, it keeps my phone running smoothly, I use mine to play the odd game, note taking and web browsing/shopping..
