Hi I have been a fan and subcribed for some time now. I think your chanel is one of the best on UA-cam and a benchmark for other chanels to aspire to. I give lectures on the American Civil War and early modern history as well as living History and reenactment. I would love to see some content on the Salem witch trials, or on how reeactmet and living History is a way of keeping History alive and understanding the past. I am also a preacher for or the Presbyterian Church in Ireland and a chaplain friend keeps inviting me to NC. I would love to see Gettysburg some and think your partnership with the Gettsburg museum is fantastic, I would love to see it some day. I wish you all the best in your work in Poland and I am also excited about the content that you are posting from there. Keep doing the great job that you are doing. Thank you again for visiting the Grant County Museum! We truly appreciate your support. Keep up the great work, as your channel is absolutely fascinating!
Ive said it before, I'll say it again. This channel and the Gettysburg museum videos need to be required curriculum viewing for every classroom in this country. Well done Gents, OUTSTANDING CONTENT.
What are the chances that the Union soldier when he was crossing that river got his belt or something caught up on a log or something in the water and took that knife out to cut his belt or whatever to set himself free to get away. Which could explain why the bullets and belt and those other items were found right there? Maybe he dropped the knife to or maybe he got shot and passed away right there in that river
JD, your stuff is absolutely incredible. I'm not afraid to express the fact that I am an extremely jealous man. Your ability to find, examine, research and share history is extraordinary. Thank you for letting us participate.
@@TheHistoryUnderground thanks again. Please let me know if my comment above about metal detecting is interesting to you. It’s a very significant thing historically
This is sooo COOL!! Metal detecting a battlefield has been on my bucket list ever since my Dad took me to Little Bighorn Battlefield when I was 8 years old. I'm now 40 and living vicariously through you, JD. Thanks for the excellent content, keep em comin!!
The Civil War as it says in the name was an American affair but also had an impact around the world. The end of the war led to a crash in the cost of cotton leading to peasant revolts in India and threatening the British rule. History never fails to amaze
What a fun episode. My grandfather went to an event in Gettysburg in the 1930s. He saw a field that had been recently plowed and went into the furrows and found about 8 minie balls (the pointy three ringed kind) which he kept in his roll top desk. He would get them out from time to time to show us. After hearing that I always thought how much fun it would be to go digging like this with a metal detector near a battlefield. And according to your episode today, it is indeed fun. Any kid or adult who likes history would really get into this. When you expose a child or teen to close-up history like this it changes them in a profound way. I grew up during the 1960s when America was going Civil War centennial crazy and our parents took us on summer trips to various Virginia battlefields We went to Gettysburg on a school field trip but my parents also took us there. Another summer we drove to Canada and stopped at Fort Ticonderoga for an even earlier stop with history. Kids who grow up in the New England or mid-Atlantic states have so many sites and historical places of interest to visit if only their parents will take the time to take them there. It's a great way to get your kids hooked on history and off social media (unless they are on google researching historic sites!) This was an excellent episode. Thanks so much. I hope you got a new pair of boots!
I know I’m late to the party. But I would like to say congrats on your first Civil War relic. Being the first person to hold a relic after it was lost by a soldier almost 160 years ago is a feeling that never gets old. Congrats again !!
A big hi from Northern Ireland, another amazing episode. I really love everything that you do on UA-cam. Have you ever thought of coming to Ireland to look at some of our history. I live near to the historic walled city of Derry/Londonderry and I think that you would love it here. History is not just the only passion that we share, I am an accredited preacher of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland and my faith is very important to me as well. I study Civil War History at Ulster University and my planed dissertation will be on how Robert E. Lee's faith and honour code and how it shaped his life and the way that he fought the war. Please keep doing what you do so well, I have a chaplain friend in NC who keeps asking me to come over to the US, but your show allows me to see places that I may not otherwise never see. Kind regards, Oscar
Fascinating! Finding that six pounder and especially your first Civil War bullet knowing that the soldier who carried it was the last to have it before it found it's way into your hand, special. Great work JD.

It was in the same hole as the cartridge box, so I’m 100% certain it would have been his pocket knife. No coincidence. 😬
@@digginonfaith531 very cool!
I noticed the faith that man had as he was writing that last will and testament. He knew that he believed in Jesus and he would be going to heaven.
Love your videos JD. Very well
Presented with great stories. I particularly like your Civil War coverage and hope to see more. From Canada but love American history. Great work!
Thanks!
Fantastic video JD thanks for all the hard work. Stay safe.
Thanks 👍
Wow! I was really impressed with the museum and the finds in and near the slough! Great stuff!
Yeah, that museum is awesome.
Imagine the history that is still just laying on and just below the ground. Unmarked graves. Money. Weapons. Still just out there. It’s crazy. That’s why I love walking the battlefields. The feeling you get being there. Seeing how it happened. I’m here right now. My 1st time here. Small, but cool. The good stuff is on private land. But still cool. 10/1/23 rip

Totally awesome . Congrats on your first find This video was great
Thanks a bunch! Appreciate that.
As a Brit I dont know much about the American Civil War but it really does interest me a great deal and I have to say that this video was fantastic so thank you...
Even near death the letter from the dying soldier was really touching. Was it his writing and if it was it was beautifully written. I will hold my hands up my writing changes from minute to minute J.D.
Awesome JD!
Thanks!
So cool. That's amazing there are still Civil War relics in the ground. Thank you for sharing 😊
