Hi everyone! For some reason I was unable to upload this video in HD. Sorry for the inconvenience & have a great day ☺️
Have a good one Nick! 💗
Nah- you’re excellent. Very unique video idea- love it ! 😊 Hope you are well 🌻
Can you send me a hole bunch
I would say the Hoya Linieras is more of an impostor to a Rhipsalis.
Same!
samedt. Rhipsalis Trigona (Mistletoe Cactus) =)
yes!
Or Ruby necklace
I totally agree! I was confused when nick said Spanish moss lol
Can you make a video about the plants that have velvety leaves? 🌿
Hoffmania has such amazing leaves! Purchased one two weeks ago. I love it
The first one looks like a raindrop peperomia to me. The second one looks more like a rhipsalis than Spanish moss to me too. I totally agree with the third, fourth, fifth and sixth picks. I love this video.
Yes - I always get Rhipsalis and Linearis mixed up.
I thought it was a Hoya Chelsea. Lol. There seem to be lots of impostors.
Paula Yes, I thought the same thing about the second one. I have a rhipsalis and Spanish moss, or old man’s beard as we call it here in Australia😃🇦🇺
I live in the south and Spanish moss is everywhere lol I just never realized it was an air plant 🤔🤷🏽♀️😄
my home town in SC has it absolutely everywhere. I worked as a history guide for ten years and used to tell tourist all sorts of info about it. Horses love eating it. It’s also most closely related to the pineapple!!
I live in the middle east (israel) and they cost so much for such small piece lol, they never survive either
Neurotica I’m mind blown 🤯 I didn’t know this either! I’m from Texas and it’s just one of those things you’re so used to seeing everyday/everywhere and you don’t give it too much thought other than how beautiful and majestic it is 🤷🏽♀️🤩
Ben Harris aww man lol
I live on the coast of far northern California, and we have something that looks a *lot* like Spanish moss, but it's a beard lichen. It grows on all the trees on the coast.
Just discovered houseplants since I became an empty nester, I mean I have had them, but now NOTICE them. I think you are amazing to watch and so informative. Thanks for all of the info I will apply as I grow my collection!
That English ivy dupe! I’ve been swooning over the English ivy for so long but never purchased because of pests.
That begonia is a surprise! Never thought to see the leaf shape like that.
Can I just add how much I appreciate the fact that you list the plant names in the info box? I really enjoy your videos and this is one of the many things that makes this channel stand out. I live in Europe and the botanical names help me identify the plants with their German names. :-) Thanks so much!
such a cool concept! I think about how sneaky peperomia are all the time
i got 2 separate strands of senecio macroglossus b/c of you nick and am absolutely loving it. i made a wire circle lease for one and enjoying how the new end rotates around according to the direction of sun! thank you so much for your videos.
For me two absolute look alikes are dischidia ruscifolia and Hoya curtsii. I always think one is the other when I see them online!
Catching your video posted only 5 minutes ago on this early morning-sure makes a great start to my FRI-YAY! Have a great weekend! I’m watching and listening while getting ready for work. 😊🌱☀️
some of these are purposely mimicking each other (for example, if one’s poisonous) while others are just parallel evolution. these plants are doing something very right
love this idea of comparing plants!
Same here! I’m learning so much!
Great video. I’d love to do away with common names, they can lead to confusion!
I love your videos! They are so fun, and you actually educate us. thanks!
"Until I tell them to touch it." 😁
Fun topic! Love learning about plants I haven’t seen before.
nick seems to have more fire today, and i’m here for it
I just love you!! You are so down to earth and funny! Oh!! Lets not forget how informative you are. 😉
Such a fun subject! Definitely on the lookout for some of these now.
Great and very interesting video, Nick! Have a fantastic Friday 🌿😌🌿
I was hoping you'd do one of these!
Why do I just love your voice and personality so much! Ugh. 🌱
Wow that amydrium is gorgeous, I've never seen it before. I totally agree ivy is more trouble than it's worth, what a lovely alternative. Thanks Nick!
We have exact same feelings about ivy. 🤣😂🤣 Enjoyed the imposter plants! 💚😃
I love watching your videos, I'm learning a lot :D
I love this idea! Very unique for a video 👍
I've had hoya linearis for 6 months now and I find it to be the easiest out of the houseplants I have. I hope mine doesn't get mealy bugs next year buy whilst everything else had thrips and mealys, this one remained perfect and I just bottom water when the pot is completely dry, let it soak up until i see wet on top and then drain off any extra and pop it back up in its hanger. I keep mine in the kitchen where its humid too so that helps. X
Great video! Being a fairly new plant parent I really learned a lot 😊🍃
love this! it's reminding me of the time i got some swedish ivy cuttings thinking it was cissus rotundifolia, lol
i love your videos so much i rewatch them multiple times
I saw you talking about the variegated wax ivy before and I was able to get it at the beginning of the summer it’s amazing! Great recommendations as always ❤️
I see in all these videos all over english ivy is so hard to grow. In my home it's always been such as easy one I forget about it all the time! I noticed mine seems to thrive more in low light. Started as one 2 inch cutting and now under two years later it's FULL and has vines as long as 4 feet already. I want to try the wax ivy though because everyone keeps saying in the videos it's so much like it but easier, my luck it'd be one of kill though 😂. Love your videos so much, I have watched every single one! You are the reason for my never ending bucket list of plants 😜
great video dude 💚 convergent evolution gits me everytime
Hi Nick! This was another fun video! I can see the similarities in all but the Hoya linearis and the Spanish moss. I think it looks like a rhipsalis, but then I've never seen 'live" Spanish moss. LOL! Loved that you were "fooled" by the names, too! I really want a Senecio macroglossus “Variegatus” and hope I can find one locally. I feel the same as you about Ivies! No thank you! The Amydrium zippelianum is a really cool plant! I googled it and it is quite spendy. Thank you so much for sharing this!
Ugh. I LOVE aroids that masquerade as palms. Rhaphidophora decursiva, Amydrium zippelianum, Philodendron tortum... they’re so tropical looking, I can’t get enough!
You have such interesting topics!!
I like that you use clay pots. I like clay pots. As long as you are a diligent and careful watered, I think they are healthier for the plants than plastic...
Thanks for the discount :)
I also have a Conchifolia, grows easy, love the leaves!!!
Love this imposter video! It's so interesting to compare them to other plants and see how similar they look!
Completely agree with the Hoya Linearis - mealy bugs love this plant!
Senecios now are called Klenias.... So, the Latin name for wax ivy is Klenia macroglossus
I enjoy all your videos .🥰👍🏻
Hey!
Thank you for the lovely video. 🌼
I think that the hoya linearis looks like a Rhipsalis baccifera or mistletoe cactus. 😉
Awesome info.
Thanks for another great video! I love your Rhaphidophora tetrasperma. Your leaves look thicker than mine. My “Ralph” is just a baby that may be the difference.
I love that you hate on hedera helix so much lmao. it’s my first plant and I didn’t realize it had a bad rep until I got it, but so far no problems! no spider mites, and it’s putting out tons of new growth. don’t know how I got lucky because it’s definitley not due to a green thumb.
Liz I don’t get why so many hate on ivy. I’ve had my Big Shot ivy for a year now and it is full, lush and beautiful! I love it and have never had an issue with pests. That being said, after reading about they are so prone to spider mites, I do prophylactically shower her down every 10-14 days and spray with neem/water/soap mixture just to be on the safe side. She trails but is not out of control. I enjoy her lushness. 🌱😊
"see i called it a monstera i'm getting bold" AHAHHA THAT SENT ME
Josh Adams omg i really thought he said bold hahaha 😂😂 thanks for letting me know
Do yourself a favor and turn on your subtitles. Every time Nick says senecio macroglossos the subtitles are the best!
Great video Nick! Thank you 😁
Haha agreed 🤣
hilarious! i’ll leave my captions on forever-multiply the enjoyment! sneezing sinister macro glasses indeed...
@@joannashelton3253 Lol! SO funny
I usually leave my captions on when Nick uploads so I don't wake my daughter (yes, I need head phones)
It makes my Friday mornings 😅
made my day hahaha
Haha! And pile of pepperonis!
That last one is pretty cool looking.
Love your vids
Hi Nick I would really like to ask you this question, how do you deal with going out of town? If you have someone else watering your plants do you organize them according to watering priorities or how do you deal with that?
I love love my wax ivy .. in my house in Mb Can it does not winter well indoors .. inn the spring I cut up pieces of stem & planted them outside in pots in full hot sun & they r beautiful .. hoping to try my first grow light this winter
Hoya linearis ooks like Rhipsalis more than Spanish moss to me and the last one also looks like Begonia Luxurians
My first imposter plant was an asparagus fern. Imagine my surprise when I learnt it was in fact not a fern!
the last plant is amazing! I need it in my life T_T
Hoya linearis. - another look alike is string of needles (ceropegia linearis)
I think one you missed is aeschynanthus (lipstick plants) being mistaken for Hoya. I've seen it so many times now when people buy non flowering lipstick plants thinking they are hoya.
I always find cissus discolor looks like a begonia but I love it haha
Hello Nick, when you mentioned the Spanish moss, I cringed, Lol. The moss is everywhere here in the south and sometimes chokes the tree branches from getting sun and eventually the leaves or branches die off. Great channel
fab video
Another great video! Thank you for the info. In your last couple of videos you mentioned that the bottom of your raphidafora is ratty...Why is that? It looks like it has great conditions. I just bought my first and hope I can help it thrive.
I have the begonia and it's been the easiest plant to look after yet I'm having probs with my rafida. X
I love you Nick.
Hoya carnosa compacta kind of looks like a curly lipstick plant to me, and there are some Aloe and Haworthia species that are very similar. Could you also make a video on colorful plants? I have recently bought a neon robusta Syngonium and I totally love its' pink leaves!
Love the begonia because I can't grow a pilea! Maybe I not look for that!
The palm one reminds me of a staghorn fern
Do a video on plants that are less pest prone pls!
great video Nick sometimes I am banging my head saying what is that plant????
How do you decide to use a trellis or pole? And do you have to be in the repotting stage to add either?
Whenever I would see a senecio macroglossus, I would mistake it for an ivy.. 😅 I would literally keep my distance because I would be afraid it would have spider mites... don't want to bring that home to the rest of my plants LOL
You can kind of see the resemblance of the begonia, to the beefsteak begonia....
The first one looks like a Ruby Red Begonia, but I don’t see any red dots in the middle of the leaves..maybe it’s the camera angle.
i think the hoya retusa and hoya linearis really look like rhipsalis baccifera
So what happens to your plants if you go on vacation? Do they go without watering (/humidifiers) or do you trust someone to take care of them all
Nice vid but you missed my favorite imposter plant heliconia or “false bird of paradise”
Oh I love plants! And I just clicked because hot dude with plants. Oh well.
I've been playing too much among us 😂😂😂
What was senecio reclasssified as?
💛
I know the title said Imposter Plants but when you pulled out the begonia i said "Are you sure about that???"
My Rhaphidophora tetrasperma has been putting out non split leaves lately.... What does that mean??? 😭
I can't concentrate. U r so pretty 🥺 also ur videos are amazings!!! 💓
I'm after the wax ivy, but the price has me willing to wait. Your Amydrium zippelianum is really nice, but also too rich for my blood. If I happen upon one or both, I'll buy them, if the price is reasonable.
Five minutes later, I found one on Etsy.
“They call the split leaf Philo, even though it’s not a Philo, they call it a Swiss cheese plant” even though it’a not Swiss cheese....:p
what happened to your raphi on your trellis,,, it looks unhappy ?
🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
🌿 🌱 🌿 🌱 🌿 🌱 🌿 🌱
great video
I knew it! They were kinda sus
Senecio Del Toro
pilea peperomiodes which mean pilea that look like peperomia, in this case like peperomia polybotrya....
hoya linearis looksuch more like a rhipsalis to me
Umm the second one does not look like Spanish moss. Southern and Florida girl here and Spanish moss is a weed in the south.doesn’t even come close to looking like it
Spanish Moss vs Linearis? I might need new glasses.
Nick I love you but how can you not mention monstera adonsonii which so many people confuse for monstera obliqua
That begonia looks like the "Beef Steak" begonia
I think the linearis looks more like rhipsalis, than tillandsia. 🤔
I need to stop watching you Nick!!! I always wanted new plants after every video 😂
