    This is amazing! Thank you for highlighting my daughter Ciara. With no one else in our family that plays, she has been self-taught since 8 y/o and got picked up by Discraft at age 9. She really puts in the work so me waking up to this video this morning really made me a proud Dad!

    Banana, I've been thinking about a couple of things as I watch your videos and work on my own personal form.
    1. I think the emphasis on the hips is overstated slightly. I think more power comes from our core, and we use our hips as an anchor of sorts. What I mean is that instead of turning your hips away from the target, it might be more beneficial to keep your hips perpendicular to the target and turn your shoulders away instead. This utilizes a CRAZY amount of core strength and I have noticed how I can gain a stability in my throw and brace when I keep my hips planted. Simon seems to do this too. I notice his hips don't seem to turn a lot and his shoulders and chest turn a lot more.
    2. I think running up from different angles will help with certain shots. For example, I have stopped running up from the back right corner of the teebox every time. It makes your job harder to hit gaps when you have to adapt your release point mid throw instead of keeping the same release point and utilizing a different run up. Ill see McBeth do this often, running up from different spots on the box to get a more consistent release point in his throw. IDK I hope that makes sense.
    3. I've also been thinking about what Cole said in the video you did with him, as well as a video Simon did with overthrow. Both seem to emphasize how their form feels over how they are actually moving. Is a good feeling form more important to get that magical snap? I've been doing a lot of field work, and interestingly enough, if I choose to focus on getting that feeling instead of a certain part of my form, my whole throw not only looks better, but it usually goes further.
    Lastly I just want to say its very exciting watching your form get better, as I have been trying to improve as well. Keep up the good work.

    Field work is the game changer. “Don’t forget to take a picture of the discs before flight “. I look forward to practice rounds where you are throwing your discs. You have the raw talent. You just throw to many different discs. Don’t get me wrong. Seeing new plastic is cool. And throwing over and over is good for learning to throw. But having a monogamous relationship with your bag is absolutely key to understanding each other. And minimum 100 putts a day.

    I believe Ezra Aderhold does this kind of “set up” to his throws. I have taken a page out of his book in that I swing my right arm out (almost behind me) at hip level as I take that first right-footed step. From the arm swing to the release, it is more of an accelerating coil. I swing my arm, start to bring my arm up, reach back, and launch.
    (My form has had slight changes since my last uploaded video in March, but I have found something consistent that works for me, so I’m happy!)
    I love the video man! Keep it up!

    I think a really cool set of data to gather would be a graph of the speed of the disc throughout the throw. I’m curious how fast elite distance throwers move the disc through the power pocket vs how fast the disc is moving when it’s released. Where does the disc reach it’s maximum acceleration? My guess would be the tip of the whip. I spent almost year going out to the field almost every other day to just throw as far as I could. Went from 400+ to now 520+. A tip I got from Tristan Tanner was to think about moving the disc very fast through the power pocket - this helped a ton. For me, having a very secure grip helped me gain bigger distance as well. I was able to generate more spin this way and it also feels more natural for timing.

    I think it would be interesting for you to add a moment to your hole 4 form review where you review your form, but also showcase/compare and discuss the form of you patrons. Maybe they can send in a clip of their form and you could potentially help them out with their form as well as learn something from them? Id be very interested in watching that

    The idea of practice plant in the walk up really resonated with me. However, I am going the other way and removing the first step and just starting perpendicular so that i'm not trying to adjust my feet angle mid walk up. I never had a fast walk up that was giving me anything anyway.

    Thanks so much for this content - hoping your newfound focus on going pro full time leads to even more of this.
    Question on how you film: Do you film at "normal" speed and just leave the camera rolling? In the past I've done this using "slow motion" on the iPhone and starting and stopping filming between every throw, but maybe this actually isn't necessary if you only want to scrub frame by frame. Any comments on the pros/cons of filming speeds?
    I have spent a lot of time in the past filming my form to try to improve the footwork. I did several filming sessions trying to get that setup step parallel and this gives me some hope that I can go back and fine tune this part of the motion further. At the time, I don't think I understood the concept between hip rotation and how this is integrally related to where the foot is pointed.

    Bodanza, I know you're appropriately dubious of all the different, often contradictory coaching out there. But I'm very impressed with the form guidance of DG Spin Doctor. His x-step timing and rubberband/coiling videos seem to have a really straightforward explanation with compelling physics. Have you looked at his style yet?

  • @NJT1013
    @NJT1013 10 місяців тому

    Id say split the difference in your parallel and staggered. You want to be staggered enough to swing through on your heel, youd be surprised what a choke point that actually is. I think the traditional advice makes people want to step too far into the stagger. The biggest thing to realize is that your body isnt Simons, Gibson's, or anyone elses. Yes, there is traditional advice and athletic movement coaching that applies here but its not going to look the same for all of us. Matty O being a great example or Garret Gurthie even or even all the way back to Steve Brinster. All had the basics dialed but it was expressed in a very unique way. Like you, Bodanza I am not tall. I am 5'8" and have thickboy legs like you as well. Don't expect it to look like yours. I use cues from my athletic training over the years. I use sled pulls and karaokes to improve lower body strength and mobility.

    Try timing full extension just after your plant foot toe touches down. Better timing is what will get you that extra 50’ you are looking for. Not kidding. Try a nice easy walk up let that plant foot start the throw. Disc is last in line

  • @Needled88
    @Needled88 10 місяців тому +2

    Your torso is too straight, i threw long time the same way, get your nose over toes, it helps you to take steps with your toes and stops the backleg drag. Another tip is that you can try to keep the disc more behind in the starting position, it helps with the timing, worked for me huge amount. So legs are going sideways and you are looking for the spot where you wanna throw, but you are already coiling your shoulders back, calvin is a good example for that, it also forces you to take smaller steps what helps with the timing.

    Good take aways. Sometimes dissecting form and trying to look too deep into it doesn’t yield the best results, for me. When learning to play any sport, it was always more a feel thing.

    So you're the only other person I've met that does the last step in the odd way. I'm not sure if it's an issue, but we seem to step "over" something into a stop instead of sliding into the brace foot. Thoughts? (Mine is a little more exaggerated than yours)

    I think the change you made w/ your xstep caused you to start bracing more against the back of your hip as your coiling, not 100% sure though b/c it's more of a feeling.

    It looks like your brace is too wide, and your plant foot is a bit open. Think about the heel of the plant foot leading, it will set your hips up eor the coil and release. Gannon's foot goes toe to heel. Try turning so your butt is more advanced than your front shoulder.

    Dude, if you're trying to feel more tension in your hips when you coil just go check out some vids at slingshot disc golf.
    That's literally the main take away from that channel and it's clear as day she's following a similar style.
    Just look at how she's sitting down over that back leg and driving it into the ground to rotate her hips before her shoulders, her toes don't leave the ground, she's not dragging her back leg forward, and she's not on top of her front leg at the end of the throw, that's all leg drive from one leg pushing while the other is pulling.
