I didn't know if everyone knew or not. Robert Bingham was the lead guitarist for Black oak Arkansas in the 80s. He passed away in September. He was a good man and a good friend. He was my friend for 35 years. He lived right here in Middle Tennessee. He was the best guitarist I'd ever seen live or on recording. He was having a rough time anyway he was very close with his family and his mom and his sister and his nephew all passed away in the few months before his death. He was a good friend and I will miss him. I hope you're still rocking on in the afterlife my friend.

Saw Jim prance across the stage in 1972 when Black Oak played Fayetteville, N.C. in front of 10,000 fans. Saw him at Gussie's in Empire/Coos Bay, Oregon in front of 25 fans. Same great soul, same gravelly voice, kissed my wife's hand for saying he was wonderful.

Im from Fayetteville, NC and also lived in Oregon. The old Cumberland County auditorium only held about 5000 or so though if I remember right. But they did manage to get a lot of top tier concerts there in the 70s and very early 80s. The concerts held there really tapered off however by the mid 80s. Good memories.

Ruby Starr really was way underrated & I could never figure out why. She had an electric & magnetic stage-presence, unmatched by any other woman rocker, in my opinion. I had the good fortune of seeing them play many, many times in central WI back in the late 70s & early 80s; they never disappointed. What wonderful memories. If I ever get to OH I'm gonna lay flowers on her grave. Thanks for all the memories, Ruby.

Vaguely aware of the band..but not Ruby..wow..she's really got it. A Spitfire/Firecracker wrapped in the body of a 5ft.
      Strawberry Shortcake.
Given the right record company/mgmt she
Could have had a solo career..as it was it
Looks like music peaked for her in early to mid 20's. Plus she went out in a very hard time with way with Lung cancer leading to brain tumour just like what happened to EVH. RIP Ruby you were one in a million.

Black Oak Arkansas was REALLY BIG back in the early to mid 70’s...Yes, Jim Dandy influenced David Lee Roth...they could have passed for brothers! It’s amazing how now Black Oak is almost forgotten. I worked at a club that Ruby Starr and her band played at after she left Black Oak to go solo. Ruby was, without a doubt, one of the most DYNAMIC singers I have ever seen... She literally COMMANDED the stage! P.S. Ruby was an admirer of Janis Joplin...I can see why!

Allman Brothers are/were wonderful, but they don't put on the "show" like Black Oak. The Marshall Tucker Band was INCREDIBLE, and I would put Toy & his brother, Tommy, up against any musicians in the world. BUT, just like the Allman Brothers, they just stand there and play their incredible hit songs, and don't ever get close to the fun, wild "show" you get with Black Oak Arkansas and Jim "Dandy" Mangrum.

BOA stole the show, first time I had ever heard of them. They were so well received in Vancouver, they returned and I seen them again about a year later.
