They played this at a concert I went to as an opening act for Tame Impala. This is how I learned of the band years ago. I wrote down their band name when I returned to my hotel, and 5 years later, I'm finally listening to their music again. It's like coming home.

@@rmejc Well, naturally that's a long story but I'll summarize for you. I wrote it down in my phone notes that I wanted to listen to their music again some day. From the beginning, it was a low priority, but I never gave up on wanting to make good on my promise to myself. About 3 years come and go like this and then one day my digital music library was deleted and I was left woth only a list of songs. I don't stream music (Spotify) nor do I listen to radio music. I decided to repair my music library back together, the painfully slow way: by hand, one song at a time, for about 1000 songs. When you work two jobs, you only have time to recover music at about 12 songs per week. Well, because I knew it would take forever to re-gather my lost music, I decided I wanted to remove about 100 songs and add about 600 new ones to expand my library overall. It gave me an excuse to explore bands that I used to be hesitant to try. I added my music in alphabetical order by band and M83 is low in the alphabet so it took another 2 years (5 in total) to FINALLY revisit this band.

Impossible to deny when almost all of the aspects/similarities with Akira are blatantly identical. Like anyone who is aware they are doing an homage, they'd probably smile and confirm they took liberties with the original story to make their vid. There's nothing wrong with doing an homage if you're conscious you're doing one... not being aware Akira is a thing would be a sin in itself.
In any case, i'm fairly certain M83 know who they homaging here. It's nothing if not a love letter to the original Manga/Anime and i salute that!

You only have to watch the movie, The Midnight Special and series, Stranger Things to appreciate, that more than us was inspired by the M83 Trilogy, Midnight City, Reunion and Wait. All evoke that invincible feeling of imagination, possibilities and potential we all feel at one time in our youth, Anthony and collaborators made some great great music and long may they all do so.......
Midnight special was terribly underappreciated even though it is a very enjoyable movie filled with strong acting and great soundtrack.
These videos seem much darker to me than that.

Love these songs. I've never even heard of m83 until I played Beat Blade and heard Midnight City. That song is amazing. My favorite song. I stopped listening to the radio a long long time ago because I can't stand 99.9% of the mainstream crap music. The sound is so refreshing to my ears. I actually love to listen to music again. Interesting how varied the "M83 Trilogy" is. From the synthwavy "Midnight City", through the rock-styled "Reunion", to the more ambient style in "Wait"
I like how the actors were better in this than in Spy Kids.

Early U2 and Tears for Fears had this big sound. And SImple Minds. Their live double album is great. But I am glad the younger generation is liking this. M83 is the real deal.
I'm a huge 80's U2 and Tears For Fears fan...but also a Rush fan, and for me the guitar has a very 80's early 90's Rush sound. I too was amazed when I discovered M83 and happy the younger generation is being exposed to it, but from what I've seen it's still not a very popular genre with youth (but neither is it mass marketed). M83 and only a few others are doing it well.
U2 has always been garbage though.
I love 80's U2 and I believe U2 is matter of liking it or not, it's definitly not garbage

2012 was a good music era
I can’t believe how long it’s been already. 2012 was a wild year for me. My best friend was murdered June 1st 2011 & my gf at the time passed two weeks later. I ended up meeting my high school crush in the spring the following year & she showed me that life wasn’t over. We spent an entire summer together & she left back to school in September. I lost my chance & Problem was you sometimes just meet somebody at the wrong time in ur life. I always told myself that one day when I was ready I’d marry this girl & hoped we’d run into each other again which I did in the beginning of the pandemic. Problem is now she’s dating somebody and I’m not one of those guys that will homewreck like that. Maybe it will be some day... until then one can only hope

This song is amazing! I feels like it infuses 80s RUSH and other prog rock bands with M83's own sound. The video is outstanding! I only looked this up because it was referenced in the movie "Love, Simon."
This song and the whole trilogy- music, visuals and all- resonates deep within me. I'm still waiting for my Reunion, but it feels closer than ever, and listening to this song feels like it helps me beckon my soulmate closer to being able to break through into my life. This trilogy heals me and brings me back to life. It helps me to remember who I am.
