That man was the greatest guitarist that ever lived, when he first came to London and was unknown, he joined Clapton on stage, Clapton came off totally shocked, his words were " you never told me he was that f*****g good!"
Clapton also gave him a Left handed guitar with a note that said please don't put us out of a job. I also read that if you buy a Jimi played guitar the neck on it will be twisted. His right arm was so strong that he would bend the neck to get the sound he wanted.

I was a mere lad of 13 in 1970, when a friend handed me a bootleg 8-track tape of Jimi Hendrix playing the Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock. I was stunned, having a hard time believing that he could make his guitar produce the sounds I was hearing. Time and many many years of hearing and seeing the legend proved it to me. I was a video producer in 2009, and was part of the Woodstock 40th Anniversary tribute concert in SF in Golden Gate Park that year. On the Friday afternoon before the event started, I was driven to a lonely tower and told I would be filming there all weekend. What a drag. Out in the wind, getting yelled at by the stoners, etc. As I was starting to set up my camera gear, up drives a guy in a golf cart, wearing a cowboy hat. "Hey you" he yelled at me, "grab your gear and come with me." Next thing you know I'm BACKSTAGE in the artist interview tent, where they come to, right after being on stage. Holy Crap!. At his first gig in UK at Regents Polytechnic in London, he came on and jammed with Cream. Nobody jammed with Cream. Cream are gods. Well, well.....let's see about that....here comes the GUITAR GOD himself. Jimi played Howlin' Wolfs Killing Floor, and he wiped the floor with everyone.....including Cream. He did the usual stunts like playing over his head, with his teeth, and behind his back, but at one point he crouched down on stage and 'humped' the guitar. Ha, ha! Ginger Baker did not know what to say, and Eric Clapton stood with his mouth open. Jimi had arrived. Move over, here comes the GUITAR GOD!!!! I was there, and was with Jimi from that point on musically. There was nobody like him then, and there has been nobody to match him since his death in 1970. Totally unique and precious beyond words. Light years musically beyond everyone. Beyond good. Not just good. Musically on another plane, another planet, but not selfish. Prepared to share with other guitarists. Could hear the sounds in his head and pluck them from the air. I call that gifted. How good? You simply could not believe that a man could do what Jimi did with a guitar. It was unbelievable, but true. That good. Woman you were surprised? Get yourself immersed in Jimi Hendrix. He was the greatest guitarist of his time honey: maybe the best ever ! He left us too soon. He and Stevie Ray could blow you mind. They did not call him the "Master of the Stratocaster " for nothing! He blew me away as a kid listening to him for the first time.
He met his bass player while in the US Army. 101st Airborne. That's where it all started with him. He put on a show with his playing ability. No fireworks, no gimmicks. Just pure.
He did play with Charlie Cox, his army buddy, later on, but the bassist at this time was still English musician Noel Redding. Oh, and the drummer was another Englishman, Mitch Mitchell.
I am blessed to be able to say that I saw (I don't mean in person) Jimi and Prince in my lifetime. Two musical geniuses. Jimi was just playing The Blues. Only amped up. I still get sad sometimes thinking of what could have been. Jimi had only been playing the guitar about 14 or 15 years when he passed.
I've been a Hendrix fan since I was 11 years old, I was musically traumatized in a good way FOREVER, and I'm now that I'm 68 WELL, I only came here NOT to hear Jimi Hendrix but primarily to see your reaction; and is it any way similar to what I EXPERIENCED when I was 11 years old hence the appropriate name "THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE"! This man changed my life musically and the MUSIC INDUSTRY in the PRESENT and FUTURE to this day, and this is why I wasn't disappointed at all and I really enjoyed you and YOUR WOMAN'S PERSPECTIVE (EXTRA TREAT). I was moved by your reaction; THANK YOU, SISTER JAY!
You picked right up on Jimi's beautiful, musical soul then, and what he intended with his music for sure, when you were totally stumped for a long minute looking for words, had so much to get out you wanted to say about it, but just couldn't find the words. That's exactly what comes through with Jimi's guitar playing, it just cannot be described in words at all, because what you are listening to is his creative soul expressed through his guitar, as Jimi himself already knew. If you could find the exact right words to describe how he made you feel when he plays songs like that then it just wouldn't be Jimi you were listening to... Many thanks!
Love your reaction. Yes, Jimi Hendrix was that good! You should check out his performance of "Wild Thing" from that same concert at Monterey Pop! I mean, the guy literally sets the stage on fire! You have to see it for yourself to believe it!
Although an eyewitness recalls old-time bluesman Charlie Patton playing the guitar in all positions, Hendrix is the one that springs most readily to mind when we talk about theatrics. Very few British players copied him, because it's well known that half our teeth are missing anyway.
Watch his entire performance! Don't leave it there! It left the music world On FIRE! Literally and figuratively. He was reintroduced to the U.S. (he was hanging out in London when he was asked to be a part of the show) and he Killed It in-between the other artists that performed! By the way, you owe it to yourself to also check out Janis Joplin on the same ticket. Hella great artist! Enjoy when you get the chance. :)
John Lee Hooker recorded the song Boogie Chillen in 1948 and it was 3 minutes eleven seconds long. In 1970 he re-recorded it with the band Canned Heat. That version is 11 minutes and 33 seconds long. I’d love to see your reaction to that song. 👍
I saw Hooker and Heat, third row center. An incredible show. Also saw the Heat jam with Jim Morrison playing harp. (In front of The Hell’s Angels, no less.) Those were the days!.
jimi is THE MAN!!!! PERIOD. ok. gonna babble a bit here. for my money his/their appearance at Monterey is one of the most epic performances in the history of Rock n Roll. consider this. jimi spend years backing all sorts of people (isley Brothers, Little Rickard etc) on the 'Chitlin' curcuit' even had his own band. never got too far until Chas Chandler (bassist for the Animals)...was turned onto jimi by a mutual friend (linda Keith) in nyc. Chas saw it, brought jimi to england,, foudn the guys to put together the J.H. Experience (mitch and noel) and got things going. They would appear in clubs around england and ALL the rock 'royalty' would come see him play...and were all FLOORED. The BEatles, the Stones, Clapton, Townshend, Jeff beck....they were all so blown away that many wondered what their next career was going to be. anyway...so..he was still basically unknown in america. when the Monterey festival was being put together (it was the first multi-day rock festival ever) someone suggested Hendrix be included. The promoter said yes..the rest is history. So the legend goes that everyone was earing this super potent Owsley Acid....and jimi supposedly took twice as much as everyone else, went out there and KILLED. none of these people had seen nor heard anything like this. I would recommend checking out his whole set from Monterey (my favorite is his take on 'like a rolling stone' from that show. just incredible. he's one of those people where, the guitar doesn't appear to be a separate instrument...rather just an extension of himself
Jimi was way ahead of his time. No one was doing what he was. He’s responsible for more guitar players than anyone. I took up playing guitar because of him. The first song I ever heard from him was Machine Gun from the Band of Gypsies album. Before I heard that song I was learning how to play the drums. After hearing it I started playing the guitar. I recommend that album to listen to. Some really great playing on that one.
Thank you so much JAYY for the Jimmy Hendrix reaction, probably the best guitar payer of all time, could you believe he played guitare with his teeth. Incredible, a magicien of the guitar. Thanks jayy for that reaction again. Tony from Paris France
I'm 55 years old I don't know what to say about Hendrix, the man was incredibly talented. If you get a chance to listen to some of his bootleg tapes that no one is supposed to buy and I bought them as a young guy. His concerts were amazing. There's nobody out there today that could compare
U ever here the sayings... No one does it like Jimi Or You can't hear anything if u don't here Jimi The man its an absolute legend I should be taught one of those musical gods taught to young young kids in music lessons, the things he could do is just beyond inspirational
You are witnessing an awesome talent. Jimi was considered the greatest guitarist in the world at the time. Many others were influenced by him: SRV, Eric Johnson etc. He pioneered a new way to play the instrument. The audience was not only into it, but no doubt stoned out of their minds as well.
I have this DVD and cherish it. This is his first concert in the US with the Experience. Covers Howlin' Wolf's Killing Floor and Bob Dylan. Jams a different version of Foxey Lady and ends with Wild Thing, where he plays behind his back, between his legs, rolls on the stage, humps the amp, sacrifices his guitar, sets it on fire and smashes it to pieces... Quite a first impression.
Some of my younger brothers and sisters are just catching on to black guitar players. Back in the day when I was growing up there were live bands everywhere. Guitar players coming from the south were full of tricks. Now Hendrix wasn't from the south but in order to be considered a good "guitar man" when he was living in Nashville he had to be able to play with his teeth, behind his back and head. Not every guitar player could do those things but a lot of them could. I'm an old timer (74) and the one guitar man I remember from those times was a blues guy named Bobby "Guitar" Bennett. A bad ass guitar player if there ever was one. He wasn't as imaginative as Hendrix but he could play his ass off. And there were a lot of brothers doing the same thing. Hendrix was wasting away like most black musicians were back then. Linda Keith got him an audition with a white music executive who thought Hendrix was nothing. That's how most black musicians were discounted by the American music industry back then. Hendrix got real lucky. He was in the right place at the right time for Chas Chandler to take notice of him. Chandler took Hendrix back to England and the rest is history. Remember, Hendrix didn't break through here in the states. It was after he went to England that he made "the big time". I always tell my young brothers and sisters who like guitar players to listen to the guitar player on Issac Hayes "Shaft' album the song "Do Your Thing". Or Michael Hampton of P-Funk playing lead guitar on "Cosmic Slop". Or Ernie Isley of the Isley Brothers. All of these cats, just to name a few, were/are badass guitar players.
This was a very entertaining reaction to watch!!! I'm 64 years old a huge fan of Hendrix, unfortunately was never able to see him live because he died before I was at the age of 13!! But it was very entertaining to watch your reaction to his style of playing!!
LOL, LOL...Absolutely LOVE your reaction... didn't think I'd ever see you nearly speechless before... but Jimi was definitely ALL THAT!!!, and then some:)
The Monterey Pop performance was probably one of his most famous, and it essentially broke him into the American market. He'd been making waves in England up until then. Once he hit Monterey, he's what EVERYONE was talking about back then. Everyone who saw that performance live just could NOT stop talking about it to everyone. The word of mouth on Hendrix just exploded like fireworks on the 4th of July. And he did all that with his guitar, the various tricks, playing wth his teeth and behind his back and such, but he did them with a right-handed guitar that he re-strung for a left-hander like himself. He was a once-in-a-lifetime artist that we'll never see again. He was instrumental in bringing the blues to the rock scene, and helping to make electric blues really popular. So many rock tunes are actually blues tunes.
You know I am an old man I am 86 years old I was in the military and I saw entertainers I saw two guys do this back in the fifties play the guitar behind their heads to me this is not new although the people who did was never heard of to see Jimi Hendrix do this it was absolutely amazing he brought it to life what everybody could see it thank God that kind of talent exist
Jimi showed everyone how this thing is done ! When he exploded on the scene, music would never be the same again. A true originator and pioneer who left us much to much to soon !!!
He lived in his guitar! He was first, the only one at that time that could do this. Stevie was next and also great. Jimi shined like the brightest star but left us to soon. It was a sad day for sure. He is still loved. RIP JIMI
He was a great figure at the time , I always loved that he said about his hair , "Fly your freak flag high " or something like that , a great individual .
watching Hendrix is a religious experience for sure....he is still my top guitarist and performer all time....infinite swag...he had plenty to spare lol. Great reactions btw. God Bless
Jimi was one of the leaders in changing rock and roll. He was the first artist to use the wawa pedal. It was a shame that his drug use took him from us so soon. You should check out his songs purple haze and all along the watch tower.
Monterey Pop festival was Jimi's coming out party. It's where the world (and US) got to know Jimi live. His 'tricks' with the guitar are on display. So much can be said about Jimi Hendrix but here, I'll say that Jimi's stage act was sexual in his initial phase. Later, he dropped a lot of that and focused more on playing the guitar with all the innovation that Jimi brought to the guitar. Jimi was a great songwriter in addition to being a great guitarist and guitar innovator. We lost him waaaay too soon.
Before Jimi Hendrix made it big he played a small club in London at an open mic night, he played “Hey Joe”. Eric Clapton was scheduled to play right after Jimi and refused to go on saying ‘what the F am I supposed to do after that?’. I saw Jimi play live at Devonshire Downs in 1968, simply awesome.
He kicked open the door to a whole generation of music. Jimi falls into the "there will never be another one like him" category. Stevie Ray Vaughan and many others ran with this style and still do 50 plus years later. Welcome to the time of your life, listening to Jimi.

You Tube: Jimi Hendrix Lulu Show, Full Version (Cream tribute); Jimi Hendrix Johnny B Goode, Berkeley; The Wind Cries Mary (Stockholm); Killing Floor (Stockholm Full Concert). Go there now and be amazed. Still think he was murdered
Loved your reaction. Jimi's talent and stage presence are tremendous.
He was the greatest guitarist of his time honey: maybe the best ever ! He left us too soon. He and Stevie Ray could blow you mind. They did not call him the "Master of the Stratocaster " for nothing! He blew me away as a
kid listening to him for the first time.
Jimi Hendrix,A great singer.And very talented guitar player,back in 60s.May Jimi Hendrix,RIP.
Jimi was THE most influential artist to SRV, Prince, etc etc. Most incredible guitarist, song written, composer!!!
Jimi live at Monterey “the killing floor”…First track Jimi hits the crowd with and blows them away…Jimi Forever.!✌️&❤️🇬🇧🇺🇸👍
One of the greatest artists, bands, and live performances of all time.
Theres a spectacular colour film of Jimi playing Hear my Train a coming on acoustic guitar. No distortion tricks. Just exceptional fingerwork .
When you can play at Jimi's level you're aloud to show off
Jimi was the innovator of the rock guitar that we hear today. He was one of a kind.
Love that you mentioned the drumming. Mitch Mitchell was an amazing drummer, perfect complement to Jimi.
Mitch Mitchell was also ahead of his time.
(In front of The Hell’s Angels, no less.) Those were the days!.
lol Wild Thing at Monterey, he set his guitar on fire.
Jimi = greatest guitarist ever 🔥🔥🔥
jimi is THE MAN!!!! PERIOD. ok. gonna babble a bit here. for my money his/their appearance at Monterey is one of the most epic performances in the history of Rock n Roll. consider this. jimi spend years backing all sorts of people (isley Brothers, Little Rickard etc) on the 'Chitlin' curcuit' even had his own band. never got too far until Chas Chandler (bassist for the Animals)...was turned onto jimi by a mutual friend (linda Keith) in nyc.
U just witnessed the greatest guitar God ever!
I saw him at Woodstock (I’m old). He was so far ahead of his time and one of the very best guitar players ever!!!
No one does it like Jimi
Or
You can't hear anything if u don't here Jimi
The man its an absolute legend I should be taught one of those musical gods taught to young young kids in music lessons, the things he could do is just beyond inspirational
You are witnessing an awesome talent. Jimi was considered the greatest guitarist in the world at the time. Many others were influenced by him: SRV, Eric Johnson etc. He pioneered a new way to play the instrument. The audience was not only into it, but no doubt stoned out of their minds as well.
This is literally the best song that has ever been written and recorded.
💗 💖 💘 💝 💟 ☮️!!!!!!!!! I saw Jimi... and I was here!!!!!! Lovely reaction!! Subscribed!
Mad love and respect. Gone but never forgotten. 🎸
Hello Miss Jaye , play some more Jimi Hendrix , his guitar playing is phenomenal !!!
One of my absolute favorite Hendrix songs. 👍🎸🎶
Jimi was my first concert......memorable to say the least!
I was lucky to see him as The Jimmy Hendrix Experience about 5 times ! It was always unreal !
The god of all guitarists.
An influence on multiple generations. He literally had Eric Clapton run off a stage because he couldn't deal. He was the original.
Hey Jayy. Yep! So far I can see this. Thank you for doing Jimi Hendrix!!!!
Yes, he's real. Now you know why many regard him as the greatest guitarist of all time. No-one like Jimi, unique.
The best guitarist ever .... hands diown .... no questions asked!!!
A true originator and pioneer who left us much to much to soon !!!
love the look on your face hey... Jimi is da man hey.... keep up the great work beautiful...
He lived in his guitar! He was first, the only one at that time that could do this. Stevie was next and also great. Jimi shined like the brightest star but left us to soon. It was a sad day for sure. He is still loved. RIP JIMI
I love 'Hey Joe' it's definitely one of my favorites from the legendary Jimi Hendrix, along with "All Along The Watch Tower" and "The Wind Cries Mary"
God Bless
Jimi plays Monterrey. Greatest performance ever. By anybody. Watch it all. And be blown away!
Only 3 years in industry,gone 70,until now2023 Jimi Hendrix 27 🎸 goat of 🎸
Jimi was one of the leaders in changing rock and roll. He was the first artist to use the wawa pedal. It was a shame that his drug use took him from us so soon.
You should check out his songs purple haze and all along the watch tower.
It amuses me how people of your age havent seen jimi's stage performances hes the bomb
Jimi Hendrix playing the National Anthem made my 80 year old mother cry... RIP
My hero since i was 12, the greatest everything from guitarist to entertainer. To to young to go
Monterey Pop festival was Jimi's coming out party.
The GOAT had to come to England to make it, here the music mattered in the 60s not the skin colour. ✌️🇬🇧
The true goat of guitar innovation of his time,a forevermore shining superstar....
