Carrie-Anne Moss (Matrix, Memento) joins us this week to share the work she’s done to be able to sustain such a career in this industry by prioritizing internal validation over external praise and not feeding into the false hype of Hollywood. Later in the episode Carrie-Anne talks about the joy and support she received while filming the Matrix films, however the freedom while shooting Memento cements it as one of her favorite projects. We also talk about confronting your childhood bullies, her bond with Keanu Reeves, and the importance of empowerment through her brand Annapurna Living.

It's basically the movie that gave Nolan a career, and a shot at Batman...thing is people forget he made movie Before Batman Begins.

Memento is the best for a few of them. Best Nolan movie. Best Carrie movie, and the best Guy movie.

I love what Carrie-Anne Moss has previously said about how she doesn't bother wearing sunglasses to try to be incognito in public because people recognise her MORE with the sunglasses on than without them. Trinity is such an awesome, powerful character.

Aw man, when she mentioned that feeling you get where you forget you're acting... seriously, she took me back to an experience I had one time when I was in college. I was on stage -- my character engaged in conversation with another character -- and I seriously zoned out. Like, I forgot I was on stage, I forgot an audience was watching us... I was just conversing as though the two of us were having a casual conversation. I was acting, don't get me wrong. But I was in the zone like nothing I can describe!

Carrie Ann is one of my very favorite actors, her range and talent are so far beyond appreciation, that her performances are hard to quantify. She’s absolutely incredible, in every possible way. Thank you for this interview!!! 😎

When someone says nice things about Guy Pearce I feel so so proud to be Australian.... he got his first "big" gig on Neighbours tv show here in Australia.... he's done sooo well for himself now. Guys like him and Ben Mendleston, Eric Bana and Chris Hemsworth.....sooo freakin inspiring. Great stuff :)

A great role for her; she ends up being the villain of the thing. Well… the protagonist ends up being the villain but Carrie-Anne’s character gets her own villainous arc.

Christopher Nolan is proof that you can be an absolutely brilliant filmmaker without being an egotistical jerk who treats his co-workers like crap in the name of art. He's made some of the very best films of the last 25 years, and yet everyone who works with him talks about how amiable and giving and gracious he is on set.

Maybe his actors don’t get that, but careful not to presume he treats his entire crew that way…

@@pathologicaldoubtYou’re right, we should’ve presume anything. We don’t know the guy and probably never will. But not one single person has said they hated working with him. In an age where people left and right will make allegations in the media, I find it interesting nobody has said anything negative against Nolan.

Whenever anybody makes excuses for the likes of Cameron, Kubrick and Fincher who seem to have no problem in treating their cast and crew very poorly I will always point to Nolan as a guy who can make what I consider to be the best films made in the last 20+ years and done it without any tales of bad behaviour, not saying he can't be stern on a set which is necessary at times but I think its a testament to his character that you don't hear these nightmare stories of on-set tantrums. I think its also a huge compliment to the way he can communicate his ideas, the smartest people are usually the quietest in the room as they can get their point across clearly and calmly in a way that is digestible for those who don't understand.

Joe Pantoliano mentions that Nolan wouldn’t speak to him again after refusing a small role in Batman Begins after winning an Emmy. Al Pacino didn’t have a good relationship with Nolan for a while until they patched it up.

Memento is by far her best role - she's had trouble finding roles that really capture her unique combination of strengths - she's always good, but Memento is the one role where I couldn't envision anyone else playing that character

Memento is of Nolan's best films ever. Needs much more aloha than it gets.
And Carrie-Ann was awesome in it as she is in all her roles.

Memento was always a cult film in my mind because every single friend of mine who saw it was in awe about the movie and it never seemed it gained mainstream traction. Another great but depressing movie with Guy Pearce is The Rover, a dystopian film in Australia with Robert Pattinson with a western feel and a lot of darkness in the sun. Finely acted, not easy to love and full of hard to stomach human behavior. Dreadful but thoughtful. The ending is enlightening and conflicting. I strongly recommend it if you like movies without anything positive whatsoever. Thoughts linger upon viewing, just like Memento.

Carrie Anne Moss Still looking Sensational and very down to to earth you can tell she is not into the Hollywood BS of being Condescending and being a Superficial Woman she flows great she seems to be a great lady with tremendous personality like I could have actual conversation with her! and You right about actor Guy Pierce one of my favorite actors! his character as Detective LAPD officer Ed Exley just Brilliant looking like Poi Dexter for Sure really not scared of his Co-star and Co fellow detective LAPD Wendell bud Wright just a good unorthodox cop Bud (Russell Crowe Fantastic performance) as Ed Exley (Guy Pierce) Just there characters static with each until they have team up Towards end was just Brilliant! Carrie and you are both right Michael About Guy Pierce he is very underrated actor!! Mr. Pierce is a class act!!
