YW. I'm bringing the Lehigh Chaos back into the mix and going to have 4 of those loaded at the top, followed by the 4 I shot here. I've come to believe those 4--5 petals going 6-9" are best chance to end a threat. Not necessarily in terms of lethality, but in terms of wounding causing a change in behavior. I know almost everyone worships at the alter of penetration, and for hunting and the least amount of tracking and rapid / ethical kill it's important. But for defense, I think having all of the mass travelling through the same wound is wasteful. 4 or 5x 9" slicey wounds vs 1x 13" wound? Maybe my mind could change again, but does that not make sense?
Looks like maybe 6.2 grains is a good spot for the 30-33 grain bullets. Do you think the debris in the firing pin is the reason for the light primer strikes? As always great testing. These are fantastic energies and certainly beat a lot of 9mm energy!!
Looking that way. Could turn out to be 6.1 for 33gr, even. TBD. Probably will do a few Hammers at both charges. Very much wanted 2200 fps out of that bullet. Sad. Was thinking that 350-375 ft# was plenty doable, but apparently not (by me). Will be targeting whatever charge comes to the 325 - 340 # range from here on out. Might have to de-lacquer the M&P. & yes I have no doubt it was debris from pierced primer causing the LPSs. Factory loads were failing, too - until I did a dry fire.
@@triggerbarPhDdid you do some shooting of 6.2 that I am forgetting or missing/didn't see? I thought you did 6.1 on "ratty" and the brass flew into a "swamp" so not able to see primers?
No. There's lacquer on the cases that doesn't get taken off (much) if you don't tumble them, but instead just soak in a water mix w/Simple Green (1 to 4).
Tough question! I'm going to work on a Short that has the different rounds I'm putting in the magazine for my carry. It's 4 handloads + 3 Factory...being a few Vanguard 36 gr GPM + a few 34 gr Black Fang + the older 2020 version of 40 gr Speer GD. I haven't bought from Vanguard recently, but they did have consistency issues (vel & poi) from my 1st, 2nd & 3rd LOTs. It seems they got it sorted out by my 3rd LOT, so those are the ones I'll have included. I'd certainly keep trying them if I didn't handload. Three of my carry handloads are same load as R&R; (R37.X) & (IS130D-v3), & (IS132D) = (37 gr Maker REX) & (30 gr Cutting Edge Raptor) & (32 gr Lehigh Controlled Chaos). R&R has had some issues with light-primer-strikes. But I believe if a person buys and tests, they should know pretty quickly if they are affected, or not. If you experience it, I am pretty sure they'll replace them. If I couldn't load my own, I'd give them a try. They also have a 37 gr fracturing round (now tipped) that I haven't tried, but waiting forever for Maker to show available. If I could only pick one...it would probably be the R&R: IS130D-v3 or the Vanguard 36 gr GPM - if you don't care about having that velocity above 2250 fps.
You are doing some good work. Thanks again.

@@ShastaBeanMakes perfect sense to me. Well done.

@@ShastaBean that’s kind of what I was seeing on my cutting edge bullets. I haven’t gotten back to it but I did not see popped primers at 6.2.

@@ShastaBean no I had 6.2 in there too. I’ll shoot it to you on text.
@@ShastaBean as always you are right. I thought for sure I had some 6.2. Okay well now I want to try 6.2. Dang it.
good stuff, did you have to lube the cases for feeding? nice range music too

What do you recommend for the best 5.7 load i can buy for defensive use? Reliability and accuracy bring concerns. Thank you for your work.
