Hi Mark A lot of people now use vermiculite boarding. It can be much easier to manage. Some spot dab the board into place. If you find it hard to make good the front end, l have found framing the opening with a nice bit of angled metal can look nice.😉 T-care Paul Ross 👍🏼

Hi Richard Now that is a question. Some liners have a 20-year warranty, both 316 and 906 grade. I have known liners I have fitted only last 18 months. The customer was cutting up railway sleepers then dipping them in diesel as well as burning wood dipped in diesel he had just cut down on a big old No4 Jotul Combifire stove. I relined it for a second time and the customer is looking after it for about 7 years now, looks good so far. I also know of other stoves and liners I fitted over 16 years ago that are still going strong. I would say its all down to the way the liner was fitted and how the homeowner uses their fire/stove. Incorrect fuels or moister content to high, lack of sweeping, and or maintenance all play their part. So All I can say is, "how long do you want to look after it"? Hi Paul, I have tried to find out what the distance should be behind my squirrel 1435, but I’m finding it very difficult to get a measurement, as it says on some of the other documentation 600mm from all sides, which seems massive, you don’t happen to know what sort of distance the back of the stove should be away from the back of the fireplace?

Hi Paul not sure if your still active but I will ask anyway. I just got a new stove and wanted to know if I can have the stove 50mm off the back wall. In the fitting guide it is saying 150mm all around and the obvious 300mm hearth. All the stoves I’ve seen fitted only seem to be 50mm off the back wall? This will obviously help me so I don’t have to bring the heart out so far into the room.

We installed cement board in the breast and would like to paint it White like the rest of the room, do we need to use a particular heat resistant paint or can normal emulsion be used? Hello, I’m in the US and can’t find the answer because to be honest I don’t think anyone here cares. What type of vacuum do you use when you have a smelly creosote flue that smells like rotting beef jerky? I’ve been a chimney sweep for almost 20 years and have used several different types of vacuums, some with 4 HEPA filters and some with active carbon filters and some with both. Every time I come across a smelly creosote flue my vacuums exhaust pushes the smell into the house. Even when I change my filters the vacuum still smells for days. I don’t have an option to vent the vacuum to the outside. What do you use to combat the smell so I’m not spending so much money on filters and smelling up customers homes? Thank You!
Hi Paul I have two multi fuel stoves and have acquired a large amount of anthracite (small nuggets) I used them in both stoves last year and they were great, long lasting and hot. I noticed on one of your videos about not using house coal due to the heat it produces. The anthracite can get very hot but I keep the stove temperature down to under 500 degrees F is this ok? Keeps the liners clean as well! Many thanks
Paul: is 304 grade flexible flue liner sufficient fitted in my cellar, a Victorian era end terrace, with a length of 11 metres OR do I need to buy 914 grade? Is there a marked difference in the quality between 304 and 914? The price difference is roughly £10... thank you for taking my question...

Hi Balkar You are not asking for much, are you? :) This is a good way for wood. place a split log in your stove, firelight on top of the log, kindling over the firelight. open the air vents of the stove, light the firelights. when the kindling start to take hold shut the stove door. Once in full taken, close the air intake that allows air under the wood. Try that. :)
Hello Sylvia I personally wouldn’t start cleaning your own chimney /liner. A professional chimney sweep does far more than just come over and stick a brush up and down your chimney. We can tell from the soot and debris removed what condition the chimney is in. Also we will look at the installation and give information of safety. A good chimney sweep in a good investment for in reality not a lot of money. Kind regards Paul Ross
