    This fire pit is one of a few covered pits that is on the list ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxAU9pOCSV9Y5JprooHvfxTpOrt4hx8uRM of approved products for Disney Fort Wilderness. The product served its purpose well and provided excellent fires throughout the evening. We were able to open the door and do s'mores, but I had to be careful because the handle was a bit hot on occasions. Additionally, I wish they had replaced some of the standard nuts with lock nuts in some places. We lost the door handle after just a couple of days of usage. Not a deal breaker, just a recommendation. I still give it 5 stars.

    Top bloke and and what an excellent video, I am a Building Surveyor and would have no problems recommending viewing as a good introduction to the why's and wherefore of fitting a multi fuel stove.
    I would stop short of encouraging unqualified people to carry out working at heights but this was eluded to in the video - the rest of it should easily be accomplished by a suitably competent amateur but as always - safety first!!
    Well done!

      Hello Zedonepilot
      Firstly thank you for your kind comments and yeas it you subscribe to our channel there are more good tips on keeping you safe.
      If you are thinking of getting a stove fitted I would recommend starting with a registered chimney sweep to sweep and inspect the chimney. here's a link to the Nation Association of Chimney Sweeps, just put in your post code at the top of the page and go from there. Make shore you get the height of the chimney placed on the certificate of sweeping, you may need that at a later date. nacs.org.uk/
      You can perches the lining kits from ourselves and get your local Hetas engineers to undertake the installation. Just click on the links on the top right of this video and check out our prices.
      Here's a link to Hetas, again just pop in your post code and go from there.
      www.hetas.co.uk/find-installer/
      Good luck in getting it done.

    Hi Sam
    Thank you for commenting.
    The answer is yes and no. The manufacturer will normally recommend the chimney is lined. One of the reasons for this is to get the best efficiency from the stove. The access for sweeping the chimney and removing the soot from both sides of the stove pipe and register plate can be very restricted. My normal recommendation is line the chimney flue, if your chimney is on a party wall or your property is in a block of flats I personally would not undertake fitting without lining the flue. That being said I have fitted only two stoves without lining. The flues where on an outside wall of the property. I had swept and smoke tested each flue. (do not get confused, sweeping a chimney flue is not testing it) I fitted a blank register in the fire opening then fitted a soot door/inspection plate on the outside of the chimney stack.
    I could get into flue gases, internal brickwork flue being oversized coursing a greater build up of soot in the flue and so on and so on....
    Hopefully I have given you something to think on.
    Kind regards
    Paul

    A great installation but inserting the stove inside a chimney is a bad choice because you only heat the chimney ! A better efficient choice would have been to put the stove IN FRONT OF the chimney......The stove pipe (L shape for example) can also heat the room ! Lots of people nowday forget that.

    You get the sweeping brushes up there through the fire (ready for all the shoot to catch it) you put a big white liner at each side of the fire. This is the way our coal fire for as long as I can remember

    We are a chimney sweeping family company that's been working since 1964 ( know of any longer than that? ) anyway your video is outstanding. I just wish all so called professional stove installers were as good as you. I could tell you many ridiculous stories mainly involving ripping the customers off. Keep up the good work.

    • @paulR505
      @paulR505  8 років тому +9

      Hello Shedfan
      Thanks for your kind comments. This all started buy me inspecting a stove fitted by a person who saw video's on youtube. After seeing what is out there I thought someone needed to try and keep people safer then what I had seen. The rest in history as they say.
      As you know some people will fit their own stoves, its going to happen. I just want them to try and understand whats involved and help them be safer in their endeavours. The next thing is getting people to understand the quality of the products they use.
      Anyway that's my preaching for today. :)
      Thank you again for your kind thoughts.
      Ps: were are you based?

      uBuyuDo.com we are based in Co Durham. Traditional chimney sweeps that have customers all over Durham and surrounding areas. Started by my father now retired and now run by two of his sons.
      However we are thinking of installing stoves and flu liners simply because we know what any specific chimney needs and most importantly how it needs to be swept. Many are fire hazards because they are installed wrong.
      Your videos will help keep people safe so thanks and well done.

      @@shedfan chimney fires are also caused by the media people choose to burn, ie damp timber and coals, plastics etc. I have seen chimney fires and they can have devastating effects. To see shall we say master tradesmen at work is uplifting. So to you your sweeps and Paul stay safe and keep up the good work.😊

    great video. we are just opening up a fireplace now and need to replace the lintel. most install videos show a half brick shoulder each side but regs say 150mm unless I'm missing something. the one I took out was about 30mm so 100mm shouldn't be an issue.... should it.

    • @paulR505
      @paulR505  8 років тому

      Hello Barnie8282
      Thank you for the question. All I can say to your question is regulations changes from time to time for the better and it may have been great back when the lintel was put in place but when your fitting one your should use the most up to date regulations.
      Thanks again for taking the time to comment and remember be safe in all your endeavours.

      hello Stephen Walkerpu
      Thanks for your comments. As to putting chimney sweeps and installers out of business l can't agree. at 1:30 l state call in a professional chimney sweep and all installations should be checked by local building control who will call out an Hetas engineer to inspect and fill out the inspection sheet on page 69 of Document J of the Building Regulation. building control will charge on average £260 plus the Hetas engineers charge. some if you call out an Hetas engineer and ask them to inspect your installation and you will have to have an certificate of sweeping from a chimney sweep so they will both be working. On average over 20,000 installations are fitted by DIY people. l'm just trying to keep them safer by giving them an understanding of the works involved and asking them to get their work inspected by a professional.

      Hello The World is yours!
      You are so right on the harness being inside out, I have made a mental note double check each time I wear it. Thanks.
      As for the lanyards and anchor point. I secured a rope around the stack then secured the shock lanyard to this.
      Here's a link to my FB page, I have placed some information on the adaptor connection and the lanyard I used. facebook.com/UbuyUdo/
      We did shoot the adaptor being connected but that seen got corrupted. I new someone would pick me up on that. Well spotted. :)

      Hello 5rrt445 or can I just call you "5"
      Thank you for the question sorry you slipped through the net.
      Taking pictures to show that you have correctly connected and strapped the flue liner to the pot-hanger bird cowl, the show the correct strapping of bird cowl to the chimney pot. Also taking a picture of the screw in adaptor before you fit the register plate. The person you would then show would be your local building control inspector or the Hetas engineer who could inspect the installation and the complete the sheet on page 69 of document J. you can down load a free copy of the document from the link above this video.
      Thanks again for the question. Originally we had this information on the video but it would have been even longer than 30 minuets so we had to edit and those who want to know would ask so thanks for asking.

      Hello Nathan
      Thanks for the comment.
      As for being expensive all I can say is we have tried to get the best of each product. Our liner kits having ten items were most if not all the other kits I have see have just three, four or if your lucky five items. Our line has a 20 year warranty if swept each year. As for some of the others, 10 year warranty and prof of sweeping every 4 months.
      I personally believe a great liner kit a good value.
      Thanks again and remember be safe.

    Great video. Very Impressed at the bend on those liners. Our house has 2 chimneys but one (from an open fire) runs at an angle up to join the main chimney again. Just would be nervous about the liner not being able to find its way down but they look flexible enough... Just nervous as the chimneys are in the middle of the house so any damage could be more troublesome :(

      Hello Martyn
      Firstly, Good Stove :)
      As to the fire cement I placed inside the stove. I was referring to the stove pipe that enters the stove from about. I fire cement the base of the stove pipe to seal it to the stove.

      Hello Limekiln100
      I can't stress enough that lining a chimney flue for a stove is a completely different animal than lining a chimney for an open fire.
      I would recommend having your chimney checked and inspected by a professional chimney sweep and Hetas engineer. Here's a link to a site to find one in your area www.hetas.co.uk/find-chimney-sweep/
      What I'm going to say is only as a guide.
      Normally an minimum 8" M/Fuel liner is required for an open fire and I would say that over 60% of the time I have fitted an 8" liner I have had to open up the chimney breast, bedroom or loft to fit the chimney flue.
      This link to my FB group for chimney sweeping and lining. It will show you what I mean. If you like please feel free to like. :)
      facebook.com/ChimneySweepsltd/photos/pcb.1020344338019169/1020344218019181/?type=3&theater
      Personally my thoughts are that an 8" liners is not undertaken by the DIY person.
      The chimney pot was an 300mm canon head pot.
      Kind Regards and remember safety in all your endeavours.

    • @paulR505
      @paulR505  8 років тому +1

      Hello Limekiln100
      Have a local chimney sweep or hetas engineer do a core-ball test of your chimney. Once all the inspections and sweeping has been done if you still require a good flue liner and gather just drop me a line.
      We can deliver anywhere in the country including Wales and Scotland.

    How does the flexy flue attach at the registry plate? Did you simply fire cement it to the plate? Or somehow bolt the two together?

    • @paulR505
      @paulR505  8 років тому +1

      Hi Joe
      Thanks for the question.
      l leave the screw on adapter slightly longer than were the base of the register plate will be fitted, only an inch or two. Then when you fit the register plate the seal on the adapter fits snugly effectively sealing both together. once the stovepipe and stove are fitted l then place a skim of fire cement over the joints.
      l hope that answers your question.
      Feel free to subscribe to my channel as l will be adding more videos and information as we go.

    Hi Paul, thanks for video, it was very informative. I have 2 questions if you wouldnt mind answering:
    1. I have a circular clay lined chimney flue, do I still need a metal flue liner in this instance?
    2. In which instance would I need vermiculite backfill around the flue?
    Thanks!

    • @paulR505
      @paulR505  3 роки тому

      Hi Gibonz :)
      Two good questions.
      1. Clay pot liners should be lined, all stoves are not tested of clay or brickwork flues. The efficiency of the stove could be dramatically changed, and with the new regulations coming in the efficiency will be king, plus the way stoves are being made you can have a lot of problems with unlined chimney flues through inefficient burning.
      Sorry for the BLATANT PLUG :)
      Here is our link to a great liner kit, put together by yours truly.
      ubuyudo.com/product/stove-liner-kit/
      just answer two questions on the page and it will miraculously give you a price. Yep, amazing I know, go figure :)
      2. As for the backfilling of the liner with vermiculite around the flue. Here's one of my videos directly on that. ua-cam.com/video/ir8yFupNAao/v-deo.html
      Hope this helps

    • @paulR505
      @paulR505  3 роки тому

      @@Gibonz no problem
      If the stove comes with a manufacturers kit for a direct air supply and in in a position where it can be use l personally would use it.
      It does away with an external air vet and stops any problem with draft.
      For me a win win.

However when I installed it I did it from inside, and it got very tight and stuck about a foot from the pot top. My concern now is removal, will it snap half way? If it does snap how on earth can I remove the old one? Thanks for your support

      Hello Patterdale
      Thanks for your kind comments of my video, if you have a minuet or 10 you should check out my others. Some good tips and products. :)
      As to your question, sorry I'm going to ask some.
      Did you get the chimney swept before starting any of the lining works? If not, I would start all over again with sweeping the chimney flue first. A good chimney sweep isn't just someone who comes round and sticks a brush up your chimney. They can be invaluable.
      Do you have a flue nosecone to help get round those stubborn corners? if not I would recommend getting one and trying again. They can be great.
      I have opened up chimneys in the past and will no doubt have to do it again some day but try everything before opening wall would be my advice.
      Kind regards

      Even if there isn't you can build a fire rated 'fake' box around the flue pipe or convert the first floor section of flue to a rigid flue pipe and do the same. The chimney is usually the original 9 inch square brick flue for coal fires.

    is it law that you must inform the council that you are fitting a woodburning stove if so do they inspect the work & check that the smoke doe;s not back draft to next doors flue

    • @paulR505
      @paulR505  5 років тому +4

      Hi Malcolm
      The installation has to be notified to your local building control if you are in England and Wales. The works can be undertaken by yourself. l would allways then get it checked so it complys with the regs and its safe buy the regs and not a case of, it will do.
      Your local building control may inspect it or request that you get it signed of buy a competent person. Remember your stove is like a little monster you now have to take care of or it will turn round and bite you on the ass.
      Only do the work if you feel you can
      Don't take risks with your health.
      Buy all the equipment from one supplier, you can see a link in the video for what l recommend you buy from us or from some other supplier.
      The paper trail needs to be there so others can see what's been fitted.
      It is true that a lot of fitters will not work on others installation. If you buy the kit from me, l then know what has been fitted and l should be able to find the correct someone around your area to help you comply with your responsibility to local building contral and your own health and property.
      One thing for anyone who reads my comments. If you have thrown the installation in or cut corners that little monster may have to be completely removed and then refitted, with completely new equipment so take your time, don't buy the cheapest equipment. You will be saving money doing it yourself so get the things that make it right.
      Then you and your pet monster(stove) will have great times and memories.
      T-care and be safe

      Just the simple act of coming of the back of a stove can end up not being so simple. Maximum distance from stove, type of bends of flue and more have to be taken into account.
