I am from Brooklyn NY, no chimneys there so no experience with them. Had a chimney fire at a log cabin I was staying at and nearly shat myself, its inconceivable to the uninitiated that a chimney made for fire could catch fire. Great product!!!
Around here (Norway) the chimney sweep comes around every year. The fire brigade does this as a service (well, you do pay for it through city taxes, about USD 50 a year).
Hi. I just want to say I think your videos are very helpful and interesting. Many houses near me have either wood burners or real fires. Wood burners are so fascinating and I enjoyed watching your wood burners installation video. Thanks again. Ali
Hello Piano Guy Sorry its taking me some time to come back to you. Its the time for me sweeping chimneys. :) Thanks you for your kind comments. Have a great Christmas and New Year. Kind Regards Paul Ross
Hi Paul, does this work for a traditional open fireplace with no door / cover? Or is it only for fireplaces / wood burners with doors? Looks like a good product.
Hi thanks for your videos which are very informative. I'm trying to find ChimFireStop here in he UK and it doesn't seem to available anywhere. Has it since been banned? Many thanks :)
I clean my flu once every cord and a half as to the directions of the stove manufacturer. I'm a bit behind on the cleanup due to the extreme cold weather we're experiencing here in Pennsylvania. I've got fire extinguishers in the house for fires, but I never knew that there were products out there that will put out a chimney fire. Thanks for the info. I'll be looking for this in the morning. Also, after watching some of the fires on other youtube channels I won't be leaving the stove burning if I'm away from the house.
Bee Bob Get ready, tonight is going to be the worst! Going down to -5 near Philly where I am. By the way I picked up 2 of these chimeny extinguishers at my local lowes.
Thanks for the info. It's really cold up at the mountain house. Looking at -10 tonight. I'm staying here near Philadelphia. I love the cold and still able to stay comfortable next to the wood burner when I come back inside.
Throw wet newspaper on the fire, block the air intake and cover the front of the fireplace. The steam will snuff out the fire real quick. You could try spraying a piece of cardboard and placcing that in front of the fireplace. Just make sure that the cardboard is saturated enough so it won't just burst into flames
Throw shower towels in the bath and soak them , throw them onto the fire. Sounds crazy but direct water to a chimney fire is the worst thing you can do You need to suffocate the fire and extinguish it. Water will cause it to spread
I've seen it used successfully once. I can't say how well it would work every time, but a chimney for a pellet stove shouldn't be too badly clogged with creosote anyway, so it's more likely to be successful there.
Two problems - how to get up on the roof (with water). How to pour water down your chimney as a LOT of heat, flames and smoke come out of it. Chimney fires burn extremely hot (2000+ F) and comes out like the jet of a jet engine.
Daniel, my apologies for the time it has taken to come back to you. Hopefully, we have worked out the bugs now. Here is a link to the product page on our website just in case. ubuyudo.com/product/chimfire-stop/ Kind Regards Paul Ross
Hi Graham Most chimney fires are up inside the chimney or above the damper plate, placing sand or soil into an open fire or stove will have little or no reaction to a chimney fire.

Thanks so much! I’ve just had a log burner installed and thinking of getting one of these just in case.
Great video, definitely will recommend it to my father. Our chimney caught fire twice now ..many thanks for sharing
Thanks Kallinda1983 :)
Around 8000 chimney fires a year and this can help so many homes.
Thanks again for your comments.

you do great work plus great videos plus great smile
Another good video, keep em coming.
Seems valid for a fairly modern fire where you can timely shut down air access.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU TOO PAUL. thank you for replying to me 🎄🎄🎄🎄
There we go, its just nice to be nice in life. :)
2 years late I like your comment and it's December 21
Could you use a existing back boiler flu for a small wood burner
What about extinguishing the fire in a wood burning stove with water first then putting in the chemFEX? Thank you.
Where can you get the chimfirestop in uk

What could I use to cover the front of the fireplace? Ours is open with just a removable screen we put in front of it.

What make of stove is that
How does this work for pellet inserts for fireplace

Why not pour water over the chimney icy cold problem solve
The temperature shock can crack the chimney and the fire can spread to the structure. Safer to suffocate the fire than spray it

I had a small one. Wasn't to big of a deal.
RightWingKing I’m curious how you can tell you’ve got a chimney fire.
