Having grown up here outside of NYC in CT I’ve developed mixed feelings for the Big Apple. I love the diverse cultures, the arts, museums, and sports team rivalries. In the eighties Wall Street and Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty showcased the American Dream (it had its issues such as drugs) , today it lacks some of its former glory, but it’s still there if we keep the flame alive. You do an awesome job of helping to lift NYC to its former glory! Thank you so much!!💛

And the rent is a lot less everywhere else 😉I must be spoiled by Vancouver because it is very accepting and inclusive. I spend 3-4 months in the year yet I consider myself a Vancouverite. I am glad you love NYC. I'm an American from the Midwest. I've visited NYC several times. It's very nice to visit, but I would never want to live there. That said, I am happy that the USA has such a place for people like you, and others like you, to make your home. The world would be very depressing if we were all alike.
I'm happy to explore and see New York through your experience. New York is a good place for people who are tough, ambitious, hard working, and optimistic - like Dari.👍❤
NYC, Great place to visit, wouldn't want to live there (too busy too expensive). I agree about the diversity and the food. The competition is such that to compete, you must create some of the best food on earth. The New Yorkers I have known were a bit stand-offish at first, but once they make you one of 'theirs' they will fight and go to the mat for you. Very Loyal people. I can see how you would blend right in, Dari. I of course recommend Watkins Glen International Speedway, one of the finest race tracks in the world.
@@DariStep Great ! As my Dad said to me, "You will fit right in with the *mongrel* Americans." @@DariStep It's a shame you got to St. John's too late to see Coach Lou Carnesecca. In his signature sweater, the man was a living legend on campus and on the basketball court. I was saddened to hear he recently passed.

I worked in Wall Street area for 40 + years. I am retired now, but those were the best years of my life. I lived in New Jersey at the time, but commuted to NYC by train. Worked also as an Adjunct professor at NYU for 35 years.. My fav school. Don't forget the Bronx Zoo and the botanical gardens this Spring 2025.
As they say, the city so nice, they named it twice. I loved NYC when I visited, though I would prefer Boston for the history or Chicago due to location (close to family) probably to live. But I’m not really a big city girl in general. Some Americans really dislike or hate on NYC as you can see in the comments. Idk why. Maybe because they believe whatever the news headlines are vs what statistics actually show. Or maybe it’s jealously that it always gets all the media attention (which can be annoying at times I admit). Nothing quite like NYC though. Definitely an experience. Great place if one’s young or ambitious.
IIt's wonderful Minelli's song: New York, New York.. But: ua-cam.com/video/qj0MzKULyMo/v-deo.html Dari! Your homecity Moscow has a very nice metro! Budapest metro is more better as NY metro. This is in New York a shame!
The positives of NYC can be said of many large USA cities. Cleveland is multi-cultural but on a smaller scale. It has a China town, a Latino community, two Russian and Central/Eastern European sections, NE Ohio has created many rock musicians ( even if they all move to Los Angeles, CA), most people that move there came from over seas or the rural Upper Midwestern USA. Really, Cleveland and Akron have grown into each other and really should be considered one metro area. The one thing that NYC has over the area besides the amount of population is better weather. The weather along any of the Great Lakes can be described as rather raw, damp, & cold. Living in Cleveland or Columbus is far less expensive than living in NYC and have pay that doesn't decrease with those lower living costs. Cleveland is more industrial than NYC ( steel, automobiles, and aircraft parts, and some massive machinery) ( one company builds massive tunnel boring machines, like the ones used to make the tunnel between England & France, or mining machinery) Columbus is has a government contract, financial, & on-line shopping/warehousing economy & will soon have a huge Intel computer chip manufacturing plant opening. ( the weather in Central Ohio is very similar to NYC) Both cities are growing, unlike NYC. Dallas/Fort Worth are also rapidly growing but with a natural gas and military equipment economy. New York as a state is fantastic, but the weather in the rest of the state outside of the southern Hudson River Valley, NYC, and Long Island is rather raw. Boston offers alot of what NYC offers and some absolutely terrible weather.
I once spotted a car with a bumper sticker that read: "Courtesy my A$$, this is New York."🤣🤣 I thought it was one of the funniest things I had ever seen. As is so often the case with humor, what made it funny was that it had a ring of truth to it. New Yorkers are famously known for being direct and telling you exactly what they think. Many find this to be rude, but I'm so used to it that it's one of the things about them I actually appreciate. It's not that New Yorkers are trying to be rude; they're just always on the go. Hence, the saying "a New York minute."
@@DariStep Interesting point, but I’ve been to Russia as well and see it a bit differently. Russians and East Europeans generally tend to wear a blank expression on their face and will avoid smiling or having any direct contact with you at all in public if they can help it. At least this was my experience. New Yorkers, on the other hand, will talk with you and joke with you (and occasionally curse or shout at you lol); but they just do it very fast and then get on with their day.
Thank you very much Dari for this beautiful video. Your love for NYC is really great and I am happy you are enjoying your life in this fantastic city! Thank you very much for sharing and take care. Greetings from Italy ⭐️💕🍀
New York has the Finger lakes which are nice. There’s also a lost treasure in the Catskills. Some bootlegger hid his fortune up there at a hotel but unknown exactly as the hotel was demolished and lost to history. New York City also has the Secret, lost treasure. Decipher the poem and painting to find the jewel to trade in for the real thing. It’s narrowed down to around Queens and Coney Island you have to decrypt the “In the shadow Of the grey giant” poem and the woman is the white robes with the bird flying. Each stanza is a geographic feature that you must figure out. The cities of Boston, Chicago, and Cleveland were solved. Chicago being the most recent. 12 poems, 12 jewels.
Take some of those online tests “are you a real New Yorker” and see how you score. They aren’t hard. You should score 100% all the time. I often did it with my class of ESL students on certain days when they seemed low energy. The ones that were in New York over 3 years scored 100%. Not everyone though.
Honestly I know who is in those kitchens. It’s always someone of Latino descent. You really can’t get away from it. It’s fine but learning Spanish is a definite thing to have as it makes communication easier. It also really helps at the local bodega. Understanding a lot of languages is a given in New York due to its massive diversity. You should head up to Queens up to little Tibet to try their food. It’s different but kinda what you know. There’s also a big Mongolian population in new York as well. There is one place in New York City that you’re completely isolated though I don’t remember the name and exactly where. It’s a pretty rough area, no city services, no sewers, basically nothing. Plus it’s below sea level. A few enterprising people have homes there but they have to hook up to the city out of pocket. It’s ok if you want but it floods a lot and you build from scratch.

Dari "dodged the bullet" of the wildfires, though. She was pretty close to those fire-hazard areas by being in Palm Springs, California and the *EXTREME* fire hazard of Mount San Jacinto State Park around Christmas time.
I know why you think this Dari but can't we do better. It is a concrete jungle as the song says. Trash collection and Crime are two big issues. The subway, not good. I won't say anything about the corrupt government running it. The Yankees, boo. Born a Sox fan and a fan of any team playing the Yankees. I wanted to visit the Empire State Building before I died but not any more. Hey, you should run for mayor ! That would be awesome!
We’re both from Russia where there’s more corruption, especially outside of Moscow…. Subway? Well, everything is relative. I live in Moscow where you can have the best subway in the world, I believe, but as far as the US goes, the best public transportation nationwide is in NYC…. Just think of most places in the US…. P.s. I believe NYC has pretty safe districts.
@@TheBigBad2 That was not my experience while in the city for work. The guy that work at the hotel newsstand had been robbed one morning on the way to work . A guy blocked him while a second guy quickly put his hands in his pockets from behind and took his wallet. It was over in seconds. Stats are like bikini's they hide the important parts. If its so safe why are the Guardian Angels patrolling? NY ranks 20th out of 50 for safety. It does have everything , there is no city like it in the USA for sure.. Why not make it better?
Dude, get out and touch grass. Nothing is as bad as THEY SAY it is or as Good. Everything's politicized now. If the crime was as bad as some Republicans say, she wouldn't be standing there doing a video. If things were as good as the 'rat party says, illegals wouldn't be committing crimes. I have NO reason to go to New York because it's "up there" in Yankee-land.
@@Englishwithblinddanmoscow subway is not the best in the world 😅 not even top 20. As for the US, I couldn't think of anything worse than visiting there 👍🏻
I know you like to walk. I saw things in and around New York while you were walking. You like museums, art galleries, ballet and Broadway. Not your ordinary tourist things. Did you receive my email? When will you be back?
Dari, I have visited New York, it is nice, but not for me to live there. Too cold. Too much crime. I prefer Colorado because it's not too cold compared to New York, and there is a lot more nature to explore. Colorado has many great places to visit for nature lovers, including national parks, hot springs, and other natural wonders. Denver, the Capital, it's also a multicultural city, with Restaurants from all over the world. This metropolitan area of 2.6 million people celebrates its diversity with a number of ethnic events, celebrations and festivals. And compared to New York, a much safer place to live in. In addition, the cost of living is less than New York. Overall, it is expensive to live in Colorado, but not as expensive as New York.
@@DariStep YES!!!!!!!! Colorado is sunny most of the year. Colorado ranks No. 6 among the sunniest states in the United States, according to the World Population Review. Very seldom the temperature goes down to 25 degrees. Most of the time we are in the 40-50 degrees in the winter. If we have snow (very seldom) the next day the snow melts very quickly. Yes, maybe 1 to 2 times during the winter we have snowstorms that last 2 days or 3 days, but it is very rare. Basically, snows a lot more, up in the mountains (ski resorts) But not in Denver or other cities. This week was kind of cold. Right now, we are on 30 degrees, but it will go up on Tuesday to 35 degrees, Wed 41 degrees, Thursday 48 degrees. During Christmas we were on 55 degrees. It was great. A lot of people went hiking and did outdoor activities. In Denver, winters are mild with an average daily high temperature of 45 degrees Fahrenheit and days reaching 60 degrees are not uncommon. Snow doesn't stay on the ground long, so golf courses and outdoor cafes are able to stay open all year. In summer, Denver enjoys low relative humidity, making for beautiful, sun-filled days and cool, comfortable evenings. The mild weather is due in part to the city's altitude: 5,280 feet above sea level. And also remember that Colorado is above Arizona and New Mexico where the temperatures are very warm. If you drive South in Colorado, the weather is even better.
NYC can't possibly be the best city...I live in the best city. NY pizza is overrated, the best pizza is here. And let's not even get into Mexican food.. but hey, opinions are subjective, so enjoy wherever you are.. NYC is a fun town 😊
No,St. Petersburg Florida is the best city in America Sarasota Florida is a close second.I may be a little biased though living in that area which is warm and sunny now!😅

New York City ranks in the top 15 percent safest of more than 800 U.S. cities
👍 🍺 😎
@@MariadeJesus-dt4ql Colorado is warmer than NYC? 😱😱😱
Where do you live? :)
@@DariStep Sonora, one of the small towns near Yosemite.
Hello.
No,St. Petersburg Florida is the best city in America Sarasota Florida is a close second.I may be a little biased though living in that area which is warm and sunny now!😅
You can't judge the north until you have lived in the SOUTH
I like your sponsor! Cool idea! That does seem like an awesome way to learn a language! Thanks dari! I'm trying to move out the US before it all collapses. .maybe spain I'm thinking
Thank you! I thought it was a great fit for the video 😊
My gf wants me to move there. No. All the delis get crap out of a can and nobody can cook. She is born and raised in Brooklyn. No people left in mass as soon as they could remote work. Expensive. Police up your ass every move you make. NY is a shithole. Let's be honest. The weather sucks. Lol of course some person from Russia would think it's cool. I'm NOT moving up there. How would you like to be FORCED to move to NYC?
Pizza's overrated, but I gotta say, the subway was convenient. Nice place to visit, but glad I don't live there 😊
