The FIFTY - 40/50 - Part 2 - The Bugs to Rogers Traverse
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 гру 2022
- Possibly the most iconic multi-day traverse in North America, the Bugs to Rogers Traverse spans three mountain ranges, 80+ miles of distance and over 30k vertical feet of elevation gain. Though the challenges don’t come in the numbers alone, the route is littered with complex navigational challenges, sudden and savage storms, crucial and consequential decision making and surviving in the wild with nothing but your wits and what’s in your pack. It’s no meadow skipping glacier cruise, the Bugs to Rogers Traverse a full on test of mountain skills and mental grit.
This is Part 2 in a 3-part episodic series of The FIFTY documenting the classic line, the Bugs to Rogers Traverse. Part 2 will be released on December 14th, 2022 and Part 3 will be released on December 28th, 2022.

Cody 🤝 Suffering for our entertainment
This has got to be one of the best episodes of the series yet, this is an absolutely epic adventure
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hours before watching this I replaced the engine bay lining on my car because a Pine Marten had stolen 80% of it for its nest! Those things are fluffy nightmares. Loving the series, especially the remote ones.
I look at the list of what he has left to do and I’m pretty hyped for what’s to come
You and me both bud
A three parter??? This is epic. Keep the dream alive Cody!!!
The connection and camaraderie of the crew increases with the suffering. Magic moments. Incredible images from Bjarne on this one and fantastic music choices. I heart the fifty!
The marten had no fear! Glad to see it didn't steal any food!
This is a masterpiece guys wow.. absolutely epic, I’m so impressed by your storytelling Cody and cinematography/editing skills bjarne. Those shots with that music at 12:32 was just so gnarly and moody! :)
Thank you Adam. So very appreciated.
Yo Cody, I love your videos. I am definitely overweight, and you have inspired me to do ski touring. This weekend I skied Hess Peak. It's not a 50 classic, but it had 3.5 miles and 3000 vert(up and down). And I waddled my fat ass up it and skied down it. Just so you know. Keep it up, I'm hoping you complete your 50
That is amazing man. Thank you and keeping getting after it!
What an epic trip. Kudos to you guys. I'm tired just watching you suffer.
the pine marten storyline is so hilarious to me. he was absolutely AFTER you guys out there sheeesh.
I just realized there's only 10 episodes of the 50 left ☹I'm gonna be sad when this series is over.
Doubt that, the last 10 are def the hardest 10, prob gonna take many tries
@@callumhall3872 I hope they do an episode for each attempt for some of those ones.
Hi Cody and Crew! Love this series! In a future BTS type of video can you talk about the planning of a multi day trip like this, specifically how you set up caches. Are you hiking them out? Is someone hired to do it for you? Is it a helicopter drop? How long is it sitting there for? Very curious! (Apologies if you’ve already covered this in a previous video please link it if you have.)
Most of the people who've done the BtR that I know of any of their logistics did the same thing long alpine traverses often do: Hire a bush pilot to drop one or more caches near a specified place around a specified date & time. Some quite literally drop it out of an airplane.
It also matters if you're dragging sleds or not. I think you can figure out how that changes things.
on big glacier traverses they usually drop caches from a plane. Not sure about the terrain on BTR, could always use a heli but way more $$ for the flight.
Loving the little miniseries aspect to this trip. The suspense is killing me!!! Me want all now! 😂
Part 3 coming soon!
Skiing?!? No no, we're on a traverse!
What a glorious episode.
Thank you
dude, great stroytelling keep it up. (and big respect to bjarne, he must be on another physical level to be abel to film this)
Definitely! Strong as an ox and fast as a cheetah he is
And probably hungry as a Pine Marten...
The stamina you guys have is amazing. Looking at that spire and saying your goal was to get beyond that same day is wild to me. Much respect!
literally have been checking everyday to see if part two was up, so stoked to see this!
So incredible that you have done 40 of 50 lines! Each one has been so epic & fun to watch. Thanks for sharing all of it!
Its criminal you dont have more subs. You are my favorite channel to get pumped for skiing
Thank you. Help spread the word!
@@CodyTownsend 👍👍
And still some of the very best content on YT
Amazing!
Pfff, hats off for the perseverance! Those backpacks are crazy. Don’t think anyone would like to ski with those. Love the content.
It’s not that fun…but you get used to it
Bro at 4:07 when they found the parking lot sign 😂 hahahahha
Its not a sufferfest if you call it a day at noon and sleep in a warm hut :)
BJARNE IS THE GOAT!!!
Best series you've produced (and I love all of your previous content)!!!
absolutely amazing! thank you boys!
Absolutely love this series! I am a 61 year old east coast skier with occasional western trips. I will never have the opportunity for an adventure like this. I thank you for sharing and taking all your viewers along. Wishing you safe travels.
Thanks you Christopher
I’ve been born and raised in Idaho as a skier.. now a snowboarder but this series is epic!! Thank you for the great videos!! It’s amazing to see what you are doing 👍
Cody - you should do a video on backcountry cooking; what you all eat and how you survive on a trip like this and what dry foods you recommend also.
Watching Tobin inflate his x-therm 100mL at a time was tough to watch. haha
Enjoy every episode, thanks🎉
Excellent!
I live for these uploads. Thank you!
Our pleasure and thank you
Bjarne with the fire drone shots. It looks amazing out there!
Can’t wait for the finale!
I used to live in Canada and once when we were driving to do some sledding and cutting a Christmas tree, we saw a sign that said avy danger but a porcupine was on top of it and had chewed most of it apart. You are lucky you had that cache!
This is 1 epic adventure! Roll on part 3. Don't know if there's a plan to release a DVD of the full 50 at some point, but I'd def be after that shiny disc! (Am I showing my age, should I say stream/download? lol)
Fantastic episode. Loving the series.
Bjarne always gets the shots!
Loved it, left us hanging didn't see the beer chug after the final down lol.
So awesome
Brutal!
Very exciting to see this. Thanks for the high production values. On other traverses we had pine martens (large group!) attack our tent. Fun, but it is a true battle when one's food supply is at stake. We went back one summer and climbed Horseman Spire, the one just in front of Malachite. I guess you skipped McMurdo Hut. We were so wet at that point that we took a day to dry out (and rest), and eat some of the food (pancakes, etc) that we found at the hut.
Looking forward to Part 3 ( the fact that you survived part 2 .....Food drop / critter attack....lol Loved your analogy of 2 wolves....toughing it out won over the comforts of the HUT....my choice was the HUT...lmao!!! Stay Sanes boys!!! Hopefully in part 3 ....you were able to dodge that any food related issues!!! Cheers, 1000 islands ontario, loved how you both showed videos of your newborns....(heartwarming moment of the whole video), cant wait to see when you guys get home to hold your babies!!! ( YOU DO GET HOME Right....jkidding)
Great series! The Suffering is real
great riding in these parts
Ah! There's a part three to look forwards to, nice!
Sweet journey,... Really enjoyed that 🙏👍...
Thanks 👍
I actually switched video after the sec last attempt, tought the video was over 😂
Glad i came back!
So cool to see the persistence, safe choices and a happy ending. When you where on the summit the last time and did that selfie, i couldn't help thinking that man, your a legend already 🙌 Really.
Love Bjarne's comment about something like "You gotto let the mountains do it's thing, before it lets you enter". Epic
Also, grest photography and edit. 🤘💯
Great saying!
The 'parking lot' is roughly 35kms from that sign FYI :)
Good to know!
These episodes are magic 🎉
Thank you!
Not sure what's cuter. The pine marten or Bjarne thinking he can scare it away.
Cody that beige kit is so fire bro!
They don't call them varmints for nothing! Haha great vidio Cody!
Man I love these videos. Keep rockin Cody and Bjarne. Cheers from Vancouver Island
Thanks Alex
Some epic drone shots. Nice work, guys.
9:44 You're guys palace making skills are getting out hand.
Those drone shots synced up with the music 👌🏻
EPIC
Nice Pine Marten !
The 🐐
ahaha, Pine Martens are legendary in the Selkirks and Purcells, especially anywhere people visit more often.
Pine Martens are apart of the Mustelid family which also includes wolverines. These animals don’t have any natural predators meaning they are basically fearless. They also have enlarged thyroid glands which helps with that fearlessness and aggression!
They definitely fearless!
Star of the show... the pine marten!! 😂
The unwelcomed star of the show!
Pleeeeeease do a gear video on your camping gear for adventures like this!
These need to be longer..
I'm getting PTSD triggered...never have I suffered more than during ski traverses; they pretty much blow. Probably good for character building and aerobic base, tho? Good job you guys...thank you!
I want to feel gnarly, I measure my miles in K's. and the vert in feet ; ), great stufff!
Canadian style!
Hanging food is usually a good idea
Of all the possible cruxes or difficulties you guys could encounter on a traverse in the project, I didn't expect an aggresive pine marten to make the list. 😂😂
That damn Marten was more vicious than a "mini-bear"! I presume that bear cans were skipped due to weight?
Dammit Cody! Why did you have to scare us like that!?
frickin pine martin guy
Cody pop your boot liners in your sleeping bag to keep them toasty for the morning
Yeah, I know. I’ve spent about 200+ days sleeping on the snow. It’s a well known trick but ventually it doesn’t do anything for your dryness and ends up wetting your bag. Better to just tough it out in my mind and have a comfy sleep
Pretty sure that was a fisher not a pine marten? Great vid as always!
Saw you linked some kit in the description bro, just wondering what Salomon jacket you’ve got on there (beige one)?
Looking forward to the next episode
It's a Salomon softshell Gore-Tex Infinium jacket
Bjarnes kryptonite is a Pine Martin.
These are some tough dudes! I am curious how they cached their food supplies.
Nice job boys! Question for ya; do you prefer your winter shelter with a floor or without?
Depends on the conditions and goal, but I like both for different reasons
Loving this series! But that tent is so blue…how do deal in that thing?
you can see us doing drugs on the glacier after skiing mt international and putting in that scetchy skin track above serac-istan. cant believe you guys didnt drink all the liquor we had in the cabin!
😂🤣😂. We were jealous to see ya ski Intl. but thanks for that skinner!
3:04 best moment of my life. Man I really like your vids but I hate always having to convert everything to metric.
can somebody please explain how does the lootbox get there in the woods?
How did you stash the cashe’s? How long were they out there?
Hi Cody, where did you get your green gore-tex jacket its wicked.
It's a Salomon jacket.
damn is that jacket goretex?
Are you guys using the Hyperlite Ultamid 2 or 4 person tent?
Yup, the HMG 4
@@CodyTownsend thanks!
love these, but they're always over too soon. Maybe I'm the only the one that watches when they have enough time on their hands.
SWATCH hides in some designer watches. It's good when you can find it.
When and how did you put those caches in place? But now I understand why you don‘t like traverses too much. A lot of walking and allmost no skiing … 😅
Has Netflix seen this?
14:57 did Cody bring two shells? he wears that beige Solomon thing all the time, then now there's this black thing that says gore-tex. no wonder his pack is so big haha
Beige is soft shell, dark green is very light, simple shell.
@@CodyTownsend Ah very noice. mad ups to this traverse, loving the fifty lately!
ohh the puns! did you say night marauder or nightmare otter?
Didn’t even notice that pun…nice! Night Marauder was what I meant to say
That 16 mins went by too quickly.
Well, at least you won’t have to go through Moria.
Hey Cody , what liners are those in your ski boots ?
Zipfit GFTs
I noticed the GFTs as well, what motivates you to use such a heavy liner for a traverse?
7:51 also noticed the gfts. Cody would be great to hear your take on them. My biggest concern is warmth, but if you are doing this traverse in them, I’m no longer worried. Would imagine with a 50lb pack, weight of liner not super important, but very interested in experiences with them.
@@cdnewmanpac feel free to give us a call too if you want
How did you get the food there?
Pine martin
How would you guys prepare for skins failing on such a long traverse?
Can someone explain the cache to me? Like do they go out and stash things out there prior to the trip so they don't have to carry everything from the beginning?
Yup. You nailed it. In order to not have to bring 8-10 days of food and fuel with you, you generally stash extra supplies along the way. It's a very typical strategy for multi-day traverses.
@@CodyTownsendFar out! Friggin' love this series.
