Vipiteno (auf Deutsch Sterzing) auf lateinisch Vipitenum, Vipitina vallis della Raetia, sind mit den etruskischen Adligen VIPITENE(-S), VIPIΘENE(-S) und mit dem lateinischen Vibidienus zu vergleichen. Etymologisch könnte der Ortsname Sterzing vielleicht mit dem lateinischen pitŭita „Harz“ verglichen werden, was also „Ort voller Kiefernharz“ bedeutet (?)
Der etruskische Ursprung der Raeti (das Volk, das früher im Alpenraum lebte) wird durch die Relikte der etruskischen Sprache hinreichend bestätigt.
