      Yes i do 93 mostly. If I was driving the car a bit more, I'd probably stick with ethanol but e85 doesn't do well with sitting around for a week or two at a time, too hydrophilic. Since the covid my main car barely gets any miles either.

      It depends on the version of tuner studio. The paid versions have an option to save as you drive, I think it's a checkbox on the auto tune screen.

  • @joelhernandez393
    @joelhernandez393 Рік тому

    @ogpedexing when you are autotuning is there a way to log what veal filters are active at any given moment? Example that O2 out of range. Say I did not notice that happen during a veal run but I was logging. Can I find in the log if veal filtered out certain events? If this was discussed in this video I apologize for missing it.

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  Рік тому

      Most things are logged automatically including various engine states and indicators. In megalog viewer what you need to do is enable the one you want to see and it will create a status icon for it or a chart if it's a continuous type of reading like o2 numbers.

    So to disable the boost controller, can we just disable it in software for EBC? Or unplug the power? Or is it just better to route the line straight to the wastegate?

    • @OGPedXing

      If it's plumbed correctly (normally open when there's no power) then disabling thru the software is just fine.

      I think at the moment it's not too different than the 1994 trubokitty map. That one is on the more aggressive side of 'safe'. When running e85, I advance it 2-3 degrees in the power band and retard it slightly in cruise at higher rpms.

      @@OGPedXing so the time you are doing this tune it's a base map timing table from trubokitty ?

      @@OGPedXing if i retard about 5-3 degrees all across the boost area will it make more safer to autotune it or should i just stick to the base timing map?

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  2 роки тому +1

      That is technically safer but eventually you'll have to retune fuel when you increase it again. From my experience, the base spark map is ok into boost. It's hard to really tune spark on the street, it needs a Dyno and a knock sensor/det can setup so you can find mean best torque. For the street, I keep the base spark and then richen the higher boost kpa cells for protection.

    Hey Ped, I have a 1.8 NB running a Megasquirt 3 Mini ECU. I have done around 500 miles on it so far and it's running great, it drives and idles just like stock. I am hoping to install my RX8 Yellows then once the VE table is fine install my Td04-13t. I only plan on running wastegate pressure and no boost control so around 7psi depending on the wastegate. The tune is the base map which comes with the ECU from MSLabs, the VE table and Spark Table are scaled for around 220Kpa, above 100kpa in boost the fuel table looks good to me but I cant say about the Spark Table because I have no idea to be honest. It drives great and seems to make good power naturally aspirated and on the spark map above 100kpa it seems to pull spark about 1-2 per psi of boost which I've heard is about right but I am no expert.I will also be running 98-99 octane (UK) depending on what petrol station I end up at at the time aha. If I follow this guide and interpolate and scale my afr and fuel table to my 7psi needs and I work my way up slowly with boost cut and interpolate my afrs do you recon I could tune this myself and be hitting 7psi pulls safely and reliably?

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  3 роки тому +1

      Yes you can interpolate and it will work out fine. However I've found that a good map needs surprisingly few rows to be fine. You can leave it with less rows for 7psi and below it it will still work. Either way the key is to work it up slowly and then everything will be safe and the afrs can be tweaked slightly as needed to build the power.

    • @mlfishing842
      @mlfishing842 3 роки тому

      @@OGPedXing Great! Just because where I live the only ecus that are mazda related and anyone will touch is an ME221! So just take my time, come into boost slowly with over boost protection and work my way up through the ve table and I should be good? The car runs and drives great naturally aspirated on the base map, afrs are spot on and when I autotune it hardly changes anything. I had in my head that because the current tune I'm running is great, everything feels like stock if not better (idle, throttle response etc) and it's all scaled for boost and I am not adding any electronic boost control or anything. I would just be slapping the turbo on and retuning my afrs like in this video but I spoke to a remote tuner who works with ME221 and he said that isnt the case that "Accel enrichment, start, idle, alternator control, closed loop fuel correction, target AFR, injector timing. The list goes on..." would have to be tuned again. I just assumed because all of that seems to be tuned perfect just now I would just be doing what you are demonstrating in these videos. Hope that makes sense, im just confused and dont wanna blow up my engine on the first pull aha. Thanks for the reply mate! Your videos really help so many people

    • @mlfishing842
      @mlfishing842 3 роки тому

      Do you still think I should go up in segments of 15kpa then?

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  3 роки тому

      Once you add the turbo things will need tweaking again but it's no where near like tuning from scratch. A great tune NA will be mostly fine on turbo, but it will need some dialing in below 100kpa. The reason is you're now making a little boost usually at low levels. So a cruise rpm at 3000 might have been 50 kpa before but is now 60 kpa, etc. Idle is going to be almost the same, rarely see problems there. Accel enrichment, a little tweaking maybe. In tuner studio it scales automatically, not sure on the me221, but I assume fairly similar. Afr targets can stay the same and be fine. Although I do tweak them some, e.g the 100kpa row. 100kpa was WOT but now with the turbo is a transient row while accelerating, so I lean it out a bit. But don't be terribly concerned, you can handle all that in a few street tuning drives after the install and be back to stock level of smoothness in no time. For the 15 kpa increments, yes I think that's a good balance.

    Hi. this is super great info. you never talk about timing.. How to feel or adjust it. Is it easy to adjust?

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  3 роки тому

      Yep super easy. There are several ways, the main one shown is tuner studio doing it automatically using the auto tune features. You enable it when you start the drive and just keep it running. For the free version you can still auto tune it, but you have to do it by logging the drive and then running it through the app VE Analyze. Also you can make changes by hand by just entering the value in the table directly. Check out tunerstudio.com for info about the apps.

      @OGPedXing  3 роки тому

      @@boostv8chevy457 oh, I'm sorry! I totally misread your first comment...no it won't do timing, just fuel. Sorry for the confusion! I find that the various base maps from trubokitty or from diyautotune are fairly conservative/safe for timing and are ok to run when first getting into boost. To adjust timing I always recommend getting some time on a Dyno. And for safety have a good knock sensing setup or det cans to listen for it. The pros use a similar process on the dyno to dial in timing though...they hit a handful of cells in the map and interpolate. Street tuning of ignition timing is tough because you can't measure actual torque while it's happening. You see torque drop off on the dyno and then you dial it back with no risk.

    Hi . Why no one use maf sensor for tuning? is that so difficult? With a Gm maf you will never reach the max of the sensor. it should be much much easyer. i think so. i am searching for a long time for MAF with mega or microsquirt ecu.

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  3 роки тому

      Great question! While maf is supported on the megasquirt I think people tend to avoid it because of how finicky it is to tune. The intake setup you have is very important to the results you get and it can be very time consuming figuring that out on a specific vehicle. The same maf sensor on another intake will perform completely differently. When tuned perfectly it can provide very precise fuel control, which is why the OEMs like them. However many performance cars use map sensors instead. Some advantages of map include easy tuning, less affected by vacuum leaks, no restrictions in the intake system.

    • @boostv8chevy457
      @boostv8chevy457 3 роки тому

      @@OGPedXing i see. Why many popular tuners keep telling its easyer? Like this one. ua-cam.com/video/MdWglC_yHkI/v-deo.html&feature=share. The. Microsquirt has it preset in for gm maf and others too.

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  3 роки тому +1

      Boost V8 chevy I couldn't tell you...most people I've talked to think map tuning is a lot easier. The video cut off before he explained why he thinks so. Admittedly I've never done it, since changing the intake on a car is the first thing before a turbo install typically. All I know is that OEMs spend a lot of time on this for each model of car produced and their specific intake, they get it tuned in lab conditions.
