  • Today we are going to configure our Boost Control Duty Table to 1) Hit our target boost level (with no spiking!), 2) Help our spool times, and 3) Avoid boost sag! I'll show you a quick and safe way to do this using TunerStudio logging and graphing screens. I do this on my Miata project car but I'll also show you how to read the data so you know exactly what to do on YOUR car.

    i like your videos they have helped me learn alot about tuning. i do have a weird question, im wanting to set my microsquert where if the cam stops spinning it will kill the motor. i have a weird motor set up where it used an aux shaft to push a dizzy and the dizzy pushes the oil pump. sense then iv changed to coil packs, and im using the dizzy as a cam sensor for start up. my concern is if the dizzy gear strips ill loose oil pressure bu the motor will still run. i know there are other ways to do a low oil psi shut down but id much prefer to have the computer do it if possible.

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  2 роки тому

      I think it's possible using a free ADC pin (analog input) which could drive a table switch. However I don't recommend it...despite the danger to the engine of low oil pressure, what's more important is the danger to yourself if the engine shuts off unexpectedly leaving you not able to control the car. I'd wire a sensor to a super bright warning light instead. That puts you in control.

    • @BlueFlameOfLife
      @BlueFlameOfLife 2 роки тому

      @@OGPedXing thanks for the reply, i agree to some degree. i may do the warning light. but in regards to oil pressure id rather the motor shut off on low oil pressure even if it leaves me stranded because if it runs low long enough or 0 for 1 min im stranded anyways, the only difference is i now get to rebuild the motor again.

    • @BlueFlameOfLife
      @BlueFlameOfLife 2 роки тому

      @@OGPedXing i was just wondering if the computer can read when the cam sensor stops spinning because if it stops spinning i have 0 oil psi.

    would love to see an in-depth vid on launch control! I noticed when I use launch control my tach drops out totally like there is no signal. I'm guessing it has to do with how my car (1994) gets the tach signal. Is there a way to fix this?

    Very interested in boost by TPS/RPM to keep a stock block together (especially some weakish rods), would you still just use the duty table if you were aiming for max boost only in the upper rpm/throttle range to avoid very high load at lower rpm (rather than peak and hold)? Or would you use some kind of boost target approach? Is duty going to reliably achieve lower boost in lower rpm in different gears?

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  3 роки тому

      For low boost at low rpm/load but maintain high boost at high load, you can set up the duty table to have it off (boost valve is open) at low load and use spring pressure only and then hold the valve closed to keep the wastegate from opening too early to get max boost at higher load. Keep in mind that you can never go lower than your default spring pressure in the wg actuator. To have even more control you can move to a dual port wastegate which allows you to run a lighter spring but to pressurize the top "dome" as needed. Also by configuring your vehicle speed sensor (vss) you can get boost by gear which is very handy.

  • @Go4BrokeOffroad
    @Go4BrokeOffroad 2 роки тому

    Have you messed with dual Mac valves with compressed air on the dome? Wandering if you can have two tables.

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  2 роки тому

      I haven't had a car with it installed to play with it yet but yes, there is a table to control it. You need the 1.5 firmware on an ms3 and boost control needs to be on and set to closed loop.

    Hey, I have a mspnp2 for a 90-93. Looking to do the same but the only view I can find is boost duty, not psi. Any ideas? Is there something I have to enable in the program? Running a 3 port Mac wired to the ecu and switched 12v. Aem x series boost gauge. Great video!

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  3 роки тому

      No that's correct. The psi is going to be different based on the turbo and many factors. So the main control table is all about telling it how much to open. The exact duty cycle will be based on what psi you are targeting and that will require some trial and errors. Where the psi (or kpa) comes in will be in fixing your fuel table as the boost goes up and also in setting boost protection cutoffs.

    • @ITSBETTERONFIR3
      @ITSBETTERONFIR3 3 роки тому

      OGPedXing gotcha. On the main dashboard I can pull up a boost gauge to display psi, as well as a vacuum gauge. But where you have boost psi displayed in white (the graph on the left) I can’t find psi. Just the duty shows up in the list of viewable items. Aft, tps, rpm etc. is there though. Is there another way to get the psi to display in the live graph?

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  3 роки тому +1

      Oh ok, in the log data on the left it may be named differently for the ms2. You can use the map pressure or manifold air which should be available.

    Question for you,
    Would it be better / easier to run something like a Greddy Profec boost controller vs. trying to control boost through megasquirt?

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  4 місяці тому +1

      If you already have the megasquirt wired up, then it will be about the same, so I'd use the ms. The main advantage with a standalone boost controller is you can use other options for your fuel management if desired. The flexibility with the ms, especially ms3x, is you can do all kinds of cool stuff like boost by gear or rpm.

    I see your on 1.4.1 firmware, are you finding that better than the later releases?

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  3 роки тому

      Sort of more lazy than anything else...the 1.5 versions add engine states but I haven't really seen a huge advantage for that feature and also for video purposes I wanted to stick with a firmware that is really common for people. There's no disadvantage right now to run 1.5.x but also 1.4.x is very stable.

    I am confused by the 100% duty cycle at low RPM and high vacuum. Isn't duty cycle on (open) time? If you want the solenoid closed (as you mention in your comments @19:09), shouldn't the cells be a 0%, not 100%...??

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  Рік тому

      I think you can reverse the polarity in TS but I think most people set it so higher numbers mean more boost. And the max boost comes from when it's closed and holding back any signal to the waste gate actuator.

      @@OGPedXingI was just checking my table cause mine was always spooling slow everything is 0 except for when it’s hitting the 14lbs of boost and all the tables at the top right at 30-33ish. So if I change them to 100 before 3k rpm it should be spooling way faster?

    • @OGPedXing
      @OGPedXing  21 день тому +1

      The kpa scale in tuner studio is absolute, meaning it includes regular atmosphere. So it's about 14 psi of boost. Assuming you are at sea level and 100 kpa is the normal air pressure.
