Raised Garden Beds On A Budget PART 3

- Putting on the finishing touches! We've got the beds all lined up and ready for action. I'll show you the sealant we put on the inside of the beds to increase their longevity, and I finally get to filling those 2 foot tall beds. We went with the classic lasagna method of layering materials. Almost there!

Looks amazing 🤩 I can’t wait to see all your vegetables 🍆grow.
Nice job and it was great to see the whole family participating too. I hope there isn't any Black Walnut in there; or at least it won't effect the growth of any of your plants. .. Juglone concerns.
Really looking good, like how your using everything you can that's waste or just lying around. Don't forget you've got tons of dried leaves, when they rot down they make brilliant compost. Certainly going to get lots of food from them, when they're ready for planting. 👍Like how your keeping the Captain on his toes, just like my wife, keeps me. 🤗🤣😂
Lol “whatever “ dad. I’ve found mineral oil works as a good natural waterproofing. Good choice on the filling process. Now you can add a composter to the honey do list for Michael.
Looking good. Take care and have a blessed weekend and I'll see you on your next video
Now I would have lined it with the liner so it would not rot the wood sides and ends.
Takes me back to when I had a reasonable plot of land attached to the house with a greenhouse and made some boxes with lids and heated cable for raising cuttings for hanging baskets. I ended up with so many cuttings that most of the street ended up with hanging baskets! Every year I'd remake the baskets for everyone and it made the local papers, a few of the neighbours got involved and it became a bit of a social club. Now I'm in a flat and can't even have a window box for fear of upsetting some busy body who is into rules and regulations.
Great video Chelsea and Captain Kleeman
Great job building the garden beds Chelsea and Captain Kleeman
cool i use to use these's thing's they call news papers lol keep weeds down lol
Looking forward to seeing the end result and at the end of the growing season what you yield great job keep it up 👍🤞👌✌️😎🇺🇲
Question, could you have just cut holes in the plastic and slits and left the plastic down there?
Probably could have but I didn’t want plastic bits working their way up over time. Plus it was just fun to take the whole thing out!
Looks nice but sealant is not needed cypress wont rot it will still be there after you are long gone.
👍👍
🤠
Will you use compost and leaf mulch from your land (plenty of it there) or will you need something specific for whatever you're planning to grow?
Would your soil be fairly acidic (thinking of the number of coniferous trees you have)?
In the UK (southern), it costs a kidney to pay for acidic soil to fill a raised bed!
My momma’s old Betty Crocker cookbook had a whole different lasagna recipe in it. But, I think yours will yield more servings!
Are you going to put a tie board across the middle to keep the sides from bowing?
I like your garden… I only grow in raised beds, myself. High yields, low maintenance and versatile too!
Great video…I loved how you two made a plan and went forward with it. Lots of comments from people that want to weigh in on how they did this (or something similar. I’ll be one more:
Although I already had a garden in the backyard (tilled earth with amendments that I added when my budget allowed, I had a chain link fence separating my backyard from a dirt alleyway that flooded with big rains. So in order to build an earthen berm to keep the buildup in the alley, I layered all sorts of organic waste back there. After time, I decided to plant berries on the fence and was surprised that they survived but in full reality…they thrived. Turns out, I had accidentally fallen into a practice that the Germans use intentionally. By adding material over time, it was natural to me to even out the material so in essence, I had a created a lasagna. I had less wood and tons of green so mound management in the early development was interesting but nature did what it does and the only thing I added to the alley berms was worms. They make the best fertilizer.
Looks great Mrs. Kleeman
Interesting choice to use logs and branches as fill. I assume because they rot down and had texture to the beds over time?
They say a 4 inch limb in a garden box takes 100 years to decompose. Glad you are using smaller limbs. I hope they do whatever you want them to do.
Would love an update! What is going in the garden this year? Do you have to shoo the turkeys or chickens away? Can't wait to see more!
Chelsea you and the Captain did a great job building and layering those beds.
Can’t wait to see what grows in them!! Nice work👍🇺🇸
