    I always end up with sponge marks. After floating it up I leave it for as long as possible before sponging so the render is drier.....but still have sponge marks. Have seen some guys work and not a mark. Impressive.

    The joys of exterior rendering EH Mac? ... I used to go over it with my rule or derby and some softer muck to fill in all the low/rough points ... it makes the whole rubbing up and finishing so much less painful ;-)

    Top job mac looks really flat and smooth finish can I ask are you dry sponging ? Is that the way you always finish plain face render I always give it slightly light damp sponge, everybody has their own ways of doing thinga just wondering is their any advantages using dry sponge to finish rather than damp? Or is just down to personal preference ? Always interested and open to learn different ways and techniques Cheers mac keep up the good work buddy

    is that plastering sand you are using to fill in ? I tried doing that and the little stones in the plastering sand dragged scores and tracks in my work. I couldn't get a decent rub down and fill in finish until i mixed some render using building sand.

    • @macplastering
      @macplastering  6 років тому +2

      yes 100% plastering sand mate sounds like you had the gear on a little to thin I wouldn't recommend building sand as it will lack strength, will shrink more, and more likely to crack but some mixed in shouldn't be to bad .... Its the grain that binds together that makes it strong just like concrete

    • @roontunes
      @roontunes 6 років тому +1

      just a titbit you might find interesting. My ongoing job that i mentioned before, at the stage now where Ive stripped pebbledash and am rendering over old stuff, holes and lumps, expandxed metal etc and last but not least a shiny concrete head. This head has been a torment. NOTHING will stick to it. No matter how I scudded it, with or without unibond etc, the scudding rubbed off with my hand the following day. Where it had dribbled down the wall it was welded to the wall and hard as flint !! But c ompletely failed everytim over 5 days to stick to this head. I even brushed it with acid which pockmarked the head and roughened it but still it resisted. Finally contacted the makers, Scott and somebody, who said they used ' the cheapest oil possible' as a release agent when they are casting these. Make a slurry first and pour it ijto the mold directly on the oiled mold. So I'm guessing that the release agent has been absorbed into the surface slurry of the head because it seems actually waterproof !! At my wits end when an old timer told me to strip the head and use exterior tile cement on it, then scratch the tile cement. just did that yesterday and it has set like concrte and is welded to the head, so fingers crossed to finish rendering the whole thing including the head. Sorry for the long post but if it helps anyone who gets one of these waterproof heads .
