How to merge two pieces of J-Channel

Here I demonstrate how to merge two pieces of J-channel together. The method ensures that both pieces of j channel on either side can expand and contract with the changing of the temperatures.

Is this practical around windows if you only have small pieces of j channel to work with?

I try not to put extra seams if it can be avoided… some people don’t seem to mind the look, but to me it’s not a “professional” looking job. If the windows are on the second floor you could put the overlap facing up (away from the main vantage point) so it is harder to see.
