- C.C. loses Gracie whilst at the zoo. Gracie goes to find Fran who is getting ready to go to a wedding with her Mom.
From Season 1 Episode 5 ‘Here Comes The Brood’ - C.C., jealous of Fran's increasing presence in the Sheffield's lives, asks to accompany Maxwell on the family trip to the zoo to spend more time with the children. On the day of the trip, however, Maxwell experiences a toothache and visits Fran's dentist uncle. Fran, who is on her day off, suggests that C.C. take the kids by herself.

I love how Fran is very maternal with Gracie.

This was the big turning point on the relationship between Fran and the kids. They already liked her since the pilot but from this episode on, it was love.

Probably because at this point, she wasn't married, therefor, didn't think she was going to have children of her own, so Gracie, Maggie and Brighton was all she had as far as children, even if they're not biologically hers, although it doesn't matter when someone truly cares for the children like Fran does.
@Zui Sheng Li Well, you CAN say that about Brighton and Maggie too. In one episode after Fran and Max got married, Brighton walked by Fran and said, "Hi, mom."
@Zui Sheng Li I think they actually referred to Fran as filling in the void that her mother left behind.
I love how Fran was willing to endure all kinds of insults from CC when they were directed at her, but put her in her place if she crossed the line with the kids. Not only because of how protective she was of the kids, but the fact that she accepted CC and her place in Maxwell's life and knew she couldn't do better, she never spoke ill of her to him, even as his wife, even after all the insults and they rarely affected her. She really was an outstanding person.
Yeah ironically Fran was classier and didnt return the insults from CC

This is a pivotal moment in the series. This is when Fran draws a boundary between CC and herself. Although it’s a comedy show, it also manages to deliver serious, life-lesson moments.
I also loved how Fran never lowered herself to CC’s level and stayed classy! She just played her own game!

Brighton quickly learned that it pays off to be little Schmui so he is somewhat Jewish too. And don't forget about the Canasta tournament 😄
Makes sense: Fran came into her life when she was so young, she was probably raised more by her than by her mom!

i love how it was her day off yet was not bothered at all on gracie showing up.
That was her daughter, no matter what.
Fran loved those kids like her own, there was an instant connection between them. The moment she came into their lives you could see the change.

Gracie is so cute how she's all attached to Fran. She didn't want to leave Frans side. So sweet. You can tell Fran was motherly to all the kids esp Gracie.
It was true, Fran does get paid to take care of Maggie, Brighton and Gracie, but she doesn’t get paid extra for loving them, and she does!
She eventually becomes their mother so the up is cute
Loved the episode where Fran "sits" on Grace's imaginary friend because Grace has Fran and no longer needs her imaginary friend! ❤❤❤

Gracie's reaction to CC hugging her was perfect. It's a perfect "Help, help, the witch has got me" response.
One of the few times Fran actually gets sharp with CC and it was quite called for. Don't upset the cubs or the mother bear will get angry.

Definitely loved the way Fran drew the line with C.C. here. It’s one thing to insult her to her face but don’t mess with her kids that’s a no go.
I love the scenes between Fran and Gracie in the earlier seasons because their bond especially was so mother-daughter-like.
And then in the later seasons you could tell Gracie's style came from her
CC just proved that she is never Maxwell type
That's because she dont have a connection with the kids like Fran
CC would ship the kids the kids to boarding school when her and Maxwell ever got married! I don’t see that happening because Max maybe aloof sometimes but he loved his children and won’t let no one be unkind and cruel to them!
The scene between Fran and Grace is one of the cutest. Such a shame is not complete, but thanks for uploading this anyway.

Totally! In the pilote, they implied that Maxwell and CC had "something", and that she was going to be some kind of competition to Fran... But luckily they discarded that idea soon... It was waaaay more funny that CC's attraction to Maxwell was not reciprocated and that she desperately seeks for his attention during the whole show...
