I love that even though Fran isn't in the same class as the family, and let's be real, not even close to sophisticated, Maxwell knows that she would lay her life down for the kids and trusts her after only knowing her for a few days
If there's anything about Fran, she's unapologetically herself. She's caring, kind, dependable, and unafraid to speak to authority or people who think they're above her.
She may not be wealthy or intelligent. But she is extremely wise, both from her low-class living and her delight in the simple things. For money didn't buy her the greatest value of family. She got it from her mother and father, who taught such importance to her. Fran has been there for her family through thick and thin. And always tries to be understanding of everyone.
@@Polomance862 When you say that about her being wise is so true. Growing up in Flushing, she could see the kids trying to get away with things that Mr. Sheffield and everyone else would've looked right over. Like when Brighton wanted to go to (I think it was) Jersey and introduced his friend's responsible older brother that was going to drive them. And Mr. Sheffield was about to let him go, until Fran told him that she used to do the exact same thing with her friends. I.e., introduce the parent to someone that looked like a good, older sibling, when in reality, they had someone else getting ready to take them. Those kids couldn't pull the wool over her eyes, that's for sure😄
"I'm speechless!"

@Sislertx I went through college with very few friends but was hounded constantly to join one Feminist group or another. I met hundreds, if not thousands of Marxist Feminists and they were... INSANE!!
I'm tired of these "for the time" comments it's all bullshit..especially anything to do with gays, I keep seeing comments "ohhh back in the 90s gays were barely mentioned" well I call bull..in 10 years they will say the same thing about the current decade, they're already starting to blackwash the 2000s and 2010s as if during the past 20 years people were such bigots compared to today. Silly presumptions.

I could not watch Madeline Zima in very adult roles because of The Nanny
@@aliasmarg8ta127 I know the feeling. I never watched more than a few episodes of Californication because of her character. I still thought of her as sweet little Gracie from The Nanny.
Watching her on Californication was, a drastic change to say the least.
I'm 31 years old and would wear her "mourning" black velvet outfit 😍
It’s because you don’t see her grow in another role notable

I think that’s the point. Neat but not glamorous in her way
neat. but maybe too old fashioned according to Fran ˜😬ₕₑ ˜😅ₕₑ ˜😛ₕₑ but I think the therapist is doin great since I love that style💕
To 80's for Fran.
@@sabrina.h2737 Like its not retro yet
I think the main problem is that the dress and hairstyle are 10 years out of date. Long enough that the fashions are seen as frumpy, but not so long that they're charmingly vintage again. Knee length, loose fitting skirts were seen as as the domain of dowdy grannies in the mid 90s.
Everyone is talking about Frans outfit but Gracie's dress is fabulous. I'd love one even as an adult.
A sweet moment in the building of their family relationship.
Fran hugging Gracie is the sweetest 💗 most precious scene ever 💖 💗 💓 💕
I haven’t even officially started yet but so far their realationship is one of the best things in the show

That vegetable Moschino jacket Fran has on is probably worth a lot these days. It was worth a lot then too, LOL.
I love how defensive Maxwell got about the magic kilt.
Head canon is that he studied at Hogwarts that's why he believes in magic
They say here that Gracie went to therapy not long after her mom died but Gracie said she doesn't remember her mom at all in a later episode.
I mean she could have forgotten her. She’s young enough to not have known her mother for long and as time passes, you lose memories.
Grace may have been feeling the weight of her families grief.
Yes knows she had a mother who passed away because everyone told her. But she may not have memories of her
She might not remember her well, but it’s possible that her subconscious still holds some feelings for her.
She also watches a video of her mother and it resurfaces some old memories.
Wish it was on Netflix
It'd put the newer sitcoms to shame

Also, isn't it funny that when people don't like what a therapist tells them, they hate therapy, but if the therapist tells them exactly what they want to hear, they love therapy? If therapy confirms thigs for you, that's good, but you should really wonder why you don't like it when the therapist is telling you something you don't want to hear... that maybe it's something you DO need to hear.
That's true. It's also why the best therapists don't outright tell you what you need to hear but walk you through realizing it yourself
@@ΑΡΙΣΤΟΤΕΛΗΣΛΑΧΑΝΟΠΟΥΛΟΣ true they usually see the problem faster than the patients but they go sideways about it unless the patient knows they have the problem. If there is no denisl they talked straight about it.

Feel bad for that guy that wants out.
I am in my sixties single, no children, and none of that is an accident. I was only married four years of my life and glad I got out when I did.
I got a friend that is just like this poor slob in the waiting room, and his wife is just as bad if not worse than what is portrayed her in this episode.
We all tried to warn him before he got married over forty years ago and now he's lived his entire life like the guy in this episode. We offered him all kinds of help to get him out but he just kept getting in deeper and deeper by having three kids with her that are now entitled adults. He bought a house with her, bought her a nice car while he drives a "rust bucket", he turns his entire paycheck over to her, she has cheated on him in the past. He is now into forced retirement and most of his working life he worked for the nuclear power industry making uddles of money and she squandered it all on herself and then some. He doesn't have two pennies to rub together for himself, in debt due to her, and he's in his sixties and in forced retirement. His health is poor due to him not taking care of himself physically and his "wife" not cooking healthy meals, although he could have learned to cook himself and cooked his own healthier meals, he didn't.
He is looking for a job like the one he had before he was forced into retirement. He's not being realistic about where he is in life. He's over sixty-five, obviously poor health to the casual observer, and is looking for a job like the six digit figure job that he had. We told him at his age and poor health those sorts of jobs are far behind him now and if he still wants to work he should be looking for much simpler and less demanding jobs.
The poor guy. He's just like if not worse than the slob in this skit.
forget it he is in!!!!
@@im1who84u a ‘friend’. Damn
@@phoenixwiseman4018 Yea a friend....
Once he got married she pretty much isolated him from everyone else.... but we still call him friend.
Early on when we used to go over and visit him and she made us feel very unwelcomed, rude to us, made us feel like we were in the way and disturbing them.....
If he would have at least protested and put up some sort of a fight or told her that these are my friends and I've know them long before I ever met you. They will be coming over to visit and you can either treat them nice or leave. If he would have grown some balls or developed a back bone.
I know this was part of her plan to isolate him by discouraging us from coming over to visit him and she won......
We stopped going over to visit him as we had better things to do with our time then to be there and have her berate us.

I noticed after this session Gracie slowly started to stop seeing a therapist
This clip always makes me cry 😢❤️
One of, if not THE thing that made this show so enjoyable for me was seeing the closeness forged with the family, with them giving Fran what she needed and she giving all of them the binding, loving force they needed. This is why this show is so superior to many of the same era. I absolutely love that Fran became Max's beautiful wife and mother of the children. Happiest ending ever.
This is more like a pre nuptial counseling agreement more than child psychology session.

It's sad that people who are completely wrong for each other get married, so that they are miserable, and make everyone else think marriage is horrible when it's not. You just couldn't be alone and married someone you shouldn't have.
