It's a big (new) milestone for Chinese BFS reels and at the same time lets you appreciate the longstanding quality of many Japanese reels too. Paul

Well done teardown video. They put a lot of work into the design and tolerances. If CDM reels continue this trend, they will be a big contender for the established brands.

That's a really good looking reel. I service my own reels as well. It's a good practice I feel, and helps you see how well a reel is built (or not). Tight lines🤙

Great tear down video! I pulled the trigger on one of these and have fished with it a few times at my local creek. It has out performed pretty much all of my higher end reels (Aldebaran BFS, conquest BFS, steez Air you name it). Really impressed with the quality and what it's capable of! The color might make it look like a cheap plastic toy and the lack of drag clicker is a pity, but otherwise it is a fantastic unit. Mine is paired with a Ace Hawk Venom and the entire combo (+ line) comes in at only 6.6 ozs, but it has no problem pulling out giant fishes including a 22lb Chinook! Just wow
Hey nefarian! I would agree with you on your assessment. The ff01 punches well above its price tag and feels like a quality made product. There’s a level of detail put into this reel that you don’t really see with many other CDM products. It’s crazy and awesome to hear that the reel can withstand a 22lb salmon! I probably wouldn’t use it for that big a fish on a repeat basis haha but the reel definitely is made of the right materials for the job. I’m excited to see the cormorant when it makes it to our market but I don’t expect it will be much different than the kingfisher except nicer to look at and with a drag clicker. How do you feel about it today. I just bought one and another UA-camr told me to return it but, didn't say why. Is it still good? I wanna know before I spool mine up and go out with it
Hey fasho! I sort of agree. While the kingfisher is a good reel I feel like it was somewhat of a beta product almost. The FF01 Cormorant is the reel you want to pick up imho. It’s a bit more expensive but it is a polished extremely well performing reel for the money. IMHO, it is still my favorite reel of 2024. Return the kingfisher and get the cormorant. Hey Adrian! Hahaha fair enough my friend. The color scheme is definitely a hit or miss lol. While I know the looks aren’t for everyone I have to say that the reel punches well above the asking price(even though I think it could stand to be lowered for the introduction…). Components and build quality are getting very close to “made in Japan” levels. Not quite 100% there yet but it’s starting to get harder to justify spending 2x or even 3x the price to see a marginal increase in quality. Thanks for the kind words as always my friend and cheers!

I dunno if I’d take a spray can to any reel(mainly because I don’t trust myself with a spray can) but people are more than welcome to as they see fit for sure. Hey Dave! Thank you for the kind words my friend. I would say that, in my experience, on average it takes between 7-14 days for me to receive products from aliexpress. That being said, I am in Southern California and the final leg of the delivery from the point of import to the US is likely not far for me. Have you ordered a rod from aliexpress? Cheers my friend!
@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL I’ve been looking to pick up a rod to pair with the soloking, but unfortunately most of the popular and recommend rods(Tsuriyano, ace hawk, mavallos) don’t deliver until late October. Hoping to find one that ships within that 7-14 day time frame. Thanks again, I enjoy bfs fishing and your content has been incredibly helpful
Just my personal preference, I would only fish this reel in complete darkness so I don't have to look at the color combo.
Hey Eric! Hahaha you always manage to give me a chuckle my friend. Yea… I think the color scheme, the lack of a clicker and the price seem to be the biggest hurdles for people. For those that can get past those hurdles they’ll have a well made reel though! Would love to see them put the internals in a carbon frame, give it a sleek color scheme and drop the price. They’d likely have a hit on their hands no doubt. Cheers my friend!

Hey Lee! That’s a great question and I think the answer is going to be different for a lot of people. The looks are very different between the two. The prices are close but still different between the two. I haven’t measured but I would guess that the “performance” is close between the two. The materials are very different between the two. The braking systems are different between the two. One has a drag clicker and the does not. I believe the manufacturer quoted lure weight ranges overlap between the two. So you can see while the two are similar they still have very different factors to consider. That being said, I don’t want to leave your question unanswered. If I had to choose between the two, and the price differences weren’t a factor, I would likely go with the ff01 IF I could get it with a drag clicker. If no clicker is available, aftermarket or otherwise, then I’d likely go to the arise. IMHO, I really do think a drag clicker can make or break a reel. It’s such a small overlooked feature but just think about spinning reels and how odd it would be if they didn’t have them. Anywho, I hope that helps answer your question! Cheers my friend!

Hey Antin! I tried swapping the mg and pinions with this and the Acura and while it fits and somewhat works it’s not a direct swap imho. There are a few dimensions where the pinion doesn’t quite fit the ff01 correctly so it creates an unusual amount of slop. Likely a custom pinion would need to be made for this setup to work perfectly. Additionally, the clicker for the Acura has a different diameter and so does not fit. I appreciate your suggestion though and it was fun seeing how close the two reel’s MG/pinion setup was! Cheers my friend!
@@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL Thank you very much for your experiment! I'm more interested in the compatibility of akura and kestrel. Because my kestrel has recently started buzzing ((( and It would be fun to buy the acura for $30 and put its MG in a kestrel))) So there is a thought about the very similar mechanism of disconnecting the button. Closer to winter, I will disassemble both reels and take a look) Thanks again!
