  • Here is a plant that taxonomically has been juggled around: Bryophyllum delagoense (aka Kalanchoe delagoense), which is commonly known as "Mother of thousands" or "Mother of millions". I'm not quite sure if taxonomists have settled on whether it should be in "Bryophyllum" or "Kalanchoe" but let's just say it's consider one of those two closely related genera.
This plant, as you'll find out from my story, needs very little care. As a matter of fact, "Care Tips" might be a little too heavy handed. It's more like "lack of care" tips. In speaking with some cacti growers, many consider this genus / species a nuisance and will rip it out of their other planters, since the Bryophyllum's plantlets seem to grow just about anywhere where they can lodge.

Hi Summer! Just to share plant nerdiness, that plant is actually a Kalanchoe x Houghtonii, a hybrid cross between Kalanchoe Daigremontiana (aka "Mother of Thousands) and Kalanchoe Delagoense (aka "Mother of Millions") 😁. Mother of Thousands has actually broader, strappy leaves, whereas Mother of Millions has very thin and spindly leaves with striping. Kalanchoe x Houghtonii carry and show both traits! We have lots of those here in the Philippines and they spread EVERYWHERE. They even become a weed in succulent gardens 😅.
P.S. I love your content! Very simple and, in a way, therapeutic and stress relieving ☺. Plus, I learn a great deal about plants in your channel. Lovelots!

I once "bombed" all grandma's indoor flower pots with the plantlets from these.
It took her 3-4 years to fully eradicate them.

Mother of Thousands in my culture is considered a sacred plant with both medicinal & magical properties. So happy you saved it from being discarded! 😊 Throughout the Greater Antilles in the harsh interiors it can be seen growing up/sheer rock in practically no soil. I even seen it establish itself from just a leaf falling of a window sill. It's an amazing plant!

Medicine indeed, maybe for a future planning insurance claiming widower/widow. It's poisonous AF! And it's flowers are the most poisonous part of the plant. Hell if you handle them enough to have breakage you should be wearing gloves as it can actually cause heart failure. There's a reason the lady says she never sees any pests eating it. It ain't cause they're all superhealed of ailments and in their elder years reflecting. Yeesh.

This was one of my first succulents. It was a hitchhiker in a cereus pot that I bought at a nursery. 40 yrs later.....I still have the ancestors of both of them! I grow it outside in a pot in part sun and it gets huge. When the winters are mild, it will send up a tall flower cluster. I doesn’t tolerate frost so I’ll cut it back so I can bring it in. The cut back stumps regrow and new plantlets that landed in the dirt get a chance to grow. It’s colonized many other pots and cracks in the deck. I’m always pulling them up. Thanks for your informative videos. They have convinced me to try indoor plants again.

I got this as a small stowaway in the Kalanchoe Humilis that I bought. I'm amazed at how fast this one grows. I was planning on beheading mine to propagate but I found cute little plantlets growing on the big pot of agave next to it which saved me a good time than waiting for cuttings to callous over. When the plantlets grow I'll give them away to friends coz they're really nice plants for beginners.

I received this EXACT plant from a friend and didn't know what it was until just now. You mentioned it not liking the sun, but I've just moved it outside here in the Houston, Texas summer sun/heat (it's potted by the way) and it is THRIVING. It JUST started making these "leaflets" that you speak of and the leaves went from plain green to developing purple zig zags.

Brittney Blair - I recieved one from my son. He lives in south Florida where they are in an abundance. He gave me a list of instructions what not to do. Of course I ignored him, (After all, I'm the Mama. ☺) Anyway, the plant (Gremlin) has doubled in its size in width and height. I have it outside in direct sun light, fertilized it once, water it only when dry. Trained it to grow up straight, and it turned out to be a real beauty.

I was gifted a plant and I found three tiny plantlets in the saucer not knowing what they are, so I stuck them in soil and I was very surprised when they grew into these. It's definitely a very fun plant to keep. Tho mine gets stunted if I don't repot it so when I had the 3 plants in 3 1/2 they grew only about 5 inches tall and never grew larger until I gave them more space, even though they weren't root bound at all. Strange plants.

This plant is considered invasive in south Florida where I live. I have one as a houseplant, but they are rampant outdoors during the spring and summer. I agree that you shouldn't plant them outdoors; they potentially could damage other plant populations.

I have the Bryophyllum / Kalanchoe tubiflora variety (at least that's what I've always called it). While I love the gorgeous, coral-colored flowers, I have to do an annual weeding to remove all of the tubiflora plants from the rest of my pots. Even though the I now have my tubiflora isolated from the rest of my collection, it still seems to magically appear where I least expect it!

does anyone know what’s going on with my plant? Those two leaves will curl up before dried out completely.
P.s. each leaf will have around 20 baby plants and the plant has a very red stem. (Don’t know if these information helps)
