    I was at a nursery today and they had a very mature Mother of Thousands plant that caught my attention. When I was checking out I asked if they had any for sale. The owner was so nice she generously gave my some smaller plants for free to have a go at growing. So excited to see how they go.

    These are fun plants to grow but be aware they are POISONOUS and INVASIVE. They should only be grown indoors. The plantlets drop off themselves and if you have a pet (or baby) that eats things, that could be a problem.

    Best video I've seen yet on this plant. Mine started growing stringy arms at the top . & I don't know why & do I cut it down or what ? however the background noise should be lower, it's annoying being so loud.

    I love the video i actually feel more condfident growing my own Mother, not 100% confident but more than i was :). My aunt gave me some of the Mother's little babies and when I got home i immediatley put it in soil and just watered it when the top soil was feeling dry. However, about 2 maybe 3 weeks later i realized the pot i put them in did not have the holes in the bottom of the pot, so, now I am starting over. IF ... if i could have one of your Mother plants that would be the coolest thing and a great story to tell. Thank you

    Thanks for the video I have the same plant and has out grown the pot I had it in to the point that it’s rooting out and the stem are really strong. I also just found out I can propagate the little babies that it grows on the ends by watching some videos on UA-cam, but never really talked about what to do next when the start to grow. Which is how I came across you video so I’m really glad! But what would your advice be for the mama plant that starts it all and a lot of the leaves are dying off and turning yellow, but it very much produce a lot of babies still.

    • @SuburbanSill
      @SuburbanSill  4 роки тому

      It could be turning yellow because of too much direct sun. They can turn yellow and then brownish if they get burnt. It could also be too much water. When was the last time you repotted your mature MOT?

    I have a large and mature Mother who has lost the bottom half of her leaves over the winter! Would I be able to cut the top off and stick the stem with nodes down into soil like I would with other succulents? She’s just so top heavy and floppy and obviously not happy! Feeling much better taking her summer vaca outside though lol.

      @DEDE10527 Рік тому

      I have similar issues w my MOT!!
      Mine is super leggy and top heavy…and it’s in a super smaller pot that has been in for prob 3yrs now!
      I plan to repot it and when I do I am going to simply plant it further in the soil…so the leggy bottom part of the stem will b put further in the soil since the bottom part of the stem closests to the base of the plant that has no leaves on, I will cover it further down in the soil so that can kinda get rid of the leggy bottom of the stem will be covered w soil!!! That’s the plan hope that made sense!!!! 😊

    I accidentally grew roots on nearly all the little babies that fell off my plants. So, tossed handfuls onto several plates of soil, sprinkled loosely soil on top. I'm spraying water on them every other day. I had a huge one, 2 yrs ago, and she kept throwing beautiful, hanging red flowers!! My neighbor killed it, thinking it was a giant weed. Fortunately, her babies landed in my Plumeria pots! Now I have 2, two feet tall! Bunch of 6" ones, need to separate them from my Plumeria nursery, as they seem to be hogging the nutrients. 😳

      Have you thought about ordering online? You know, succulents are so easy to propagate. If you invest in one or two and propagate them over winter, come summer you’ll have tons.

      Yes, just place them on top of the soil. Give it some high humidity so maybe use a clear ziplock over the top to trap in moisture.
