Thank you for shouldering the burden of the entire free countries of this world. To many of us are held in paralysis of fear of dragging this war into a nuclear world catastrophe.. and so it is left to these brave men and women to fight this war for all freedom loving peoples. Appreciate the in-depth reporting that includes a lot of detail and personal interviews with the people doing the most dangerous work to help their country. I did not know that there were Ukraine women doing this dangerous work, they are among the many heroes willing to risk their lives for their country.
People still face this problem of unexploded ordinance in Vietnam more than 50 years after the war there. Kudos for real reporting 👍
Russia has shined a light on the strongest, most resistant & proud people on the planet. That entire region is so impressive. Since 2014 I followed what was happening in Ukraine & have known many Ukrainians, mostly from awesome downtown neighborhood of Little Ukraine in NYC. They're some of the friendliest, warmest & most inviting people I've ever met...with great restaurants. - But to see this kind of fierce, never-give-up, get it done attitude is just incredible. Respect to all of you... men & women & children. Every lost civilian & soldier is a tragedy but when this is over I hope the world realizes what they did & they get what they deserve. Security & safety guaranteed by the EU & NATO...And Russia is forced to pay for what they've done to this beautiful country, financially & other ways. The country cannot be ruined by being enslaved to their debt for the next 50 years. Very dangerous. In the US Military you need a high aptitude to even qualify for this job (EOD). I hope they provide them good gear for this work
While this is true, I'm an EOD vet for the USAF, we also have to learn a substantial level of tasks and theory that will not come into play for the specific task these civilian/local guard UXO troops will be doing. They won't need to learn how to design/destroy nontraditional IED explosives for example, nor with they need to know anything about doing render safe operations on explosives in sensitive areas like next to a building that needs to stay functional or standing etc. They'll have fully trained EOD troops that will manage the more high risk situations. Not that what these women are doing is easy, and most could probably do US/UK EOD with the same training, but they won't need to learn the theory behind the ordnance they're detonating or how shaped charges function. They won't need to know how to remove armed ordnance from a live aircraft in the event of a malfunction or how to work on nuclear ordnance which is something we all have to qualify for.
At the most basic level of EOD you could functionally train most general infantry to perform the tasks safely. Esp against a single nation with specific ordnance that is going to be 90% of the time the same exact UXO you've already seen 10,000 times. We have to train for every kind of ordnance around the world, since we can't seem to stop fighting everyone around the world lol.
HALO employ many ex UK military instructors. From the days of defusing IRA bombs through Yugoslavia, Iraq and Afganistan, Highly qualified.

reminds me of the bombings the US did to Vietnam. they lost a lot of people trying to disarm all the bombs they left in their country.
Not to mention the long lasting effects from ordnance containing agent orange.
Many US vets returned to Viet Nam to help clear out the mines. It was an act of conscience for them. I wish the U S government had taken responsibility to help clear up the mines.

Agreed. I worked with a few women in EOD. There's a strength hurdle that limits many of them but in terms of drive, capability, and competency there is no difference. Women and men are far less different than many people pretend they are.

Such a wonderful people in such a horrible situation. All for the greed of one man...
Unfortunately, that's not "one man". We know that at the beginning of the full scale russian invasion in Ukraine, some of the russian soldiers were thrown into the Ukraine by lying "this is just military training at the borders". BUT... few months later there still a lot of russian mens going to kill ukrainians by theirs own will. Mainly russians soldiers going to kill ukrainians just for money the russia swears to pay them.
Unfortunately, that's not an aggression of one russian men, but mainly corrupt russian society by not knowing the truth of USSR + years of hate propaghanda against ukrainians, Europe, Great Britain, USA and so on.
During first weeks after russia invades Ukraine in full scale, we (I'm ukrainian) hopes to contact with at least a few russian citizens that we know to spread the truth. We hoped also that this russians will influence their government to stop russian aggression, or at least protesting against.
It was so sad to realize that:
- the percent of russian citizens who are brave enough to protest against the war much lower than we may expected ;
- the part of russian citizens who fears to call the war as "war" is too high, even if they against the aggression - spreading the truth and peaceful narrations withing their society is "too much" for them;
- there too much spread of the hate propaghanda derived mindset in russia;
- most of the russian citizens live "away from politics" so agreed to live with anything their government do.
Actually, the real brave russian People start to protest against the war their country had begin, from the early first days without any asking from ukrainians. I'd like to say THANK YOU, to all that russians that has their own peaceful will and strong mind to changing their country!
It's interesting to point, that I also trying to connect with Belorus citizens during the first weeks after 24th February. The percent of successfully reached adequate peaceful citizens of Belorus are much higher than with russia. Even they live under totalitarian propaghanda a lot of years, belorussians somehow managed to save their own mind👏
