I was needing a great reaction to a great comedy this morning. There are so many quotable lines to use, which I still say just out of habit. Also love the credits that the Zuckers come up with.
Great reaction Addie like always, i love this movie, and Leslie Nielsen is epic. This movie is based off the short-lived show "Police Squad!" from 1982, where the Frank Drebin character was originated by Leslie Nielsen. It was cancelled by ABC after only four of the six episodes aired. Apparently it was because you really had to pay attention to the show to catch a lot of the humour in the show. Sounds like a weird reason for cancellation, doesn't it? There are some fun-facts about it. John Houseman as the driving instructor. He was one of the most significant figures in American theater. Along with Orson Welles he co-founded the Mercury Theatre, and co-produced Citizen Kane. He was the first head of the Drama Division at the Julliard School. He founded The Acting Company with members of the first graduating class of the Julliard acting program, including Patti LuPone, Kevin Kline, David Ogden Stiers, and a dozen others. In his long career he produced or directed some forty Broadway plays and thirty-three films. It was John Houseman’s final film role It was only rather late in life that he began acting. The red things, that Frank and Ed were eating in the car, were pistachios. There are conflicting stories as to why, but the shells were dyed red here in the States; that practice started dying off during the '80s. That was a big pile of pistachio shells outside Frank's car door. Priscilla Presley had never done comedy before. She was cast by ZAZ for the same reason that other actors mostly known for serious roles were put in their movies: it makes the dry parody even funnier. Presley had worked on the show Dallas. Zucker often quipped that the only problem with her was when her ex, Elvis, visited the set. The terrorist organization that Frank attacks and beats up in the opening scene was written as a nod to S.P.E.C.T.R.E., the terrorist organization in the James Bond film franchise. The theme song of this movie was played at Nielsen’s funeral. Nielsen passed away on November 28, 2010 at the age of 84 and was laid to rest in Fort Lauderdale. Dominik Hauser’s theme played as the Canadian Mounted Police carried his coffin. Keep up the good work.
This movie never gets old. As others have mentioned this movie is spawned from the short lived TV show "Police Squad". It only lasted 6 episodes before it was cancelled, but the movie franchise was a huge success. Police Squad is actually a parody of a 1950s TV show called "M Squad" starring Lee Marvin. Even the opening siren sequence is a parody of that show. Great reaction. I hope you keep watching the franchise. Another great Zucker Brothers movie is "Top Secret" starring Val Kilmer.
"What do you mean safe!?" "You're the worst umpire I ever seen!" "What game were you looking at!?" "He was out!" "What game are you watching?" Pulls gun... "You're the boss." "He was safe." "The man was safe."
"Completely inept, accident-prone, frankly bad at his job and a danger to everyone around him, yet somehow always manages to get the job done in the end, despite the chaos." Inspector Clouseau of The Pink Panther films. Maxwell Smart of the Get Smart TV show. Lt. Frank Drebin of The Naked Gun films. Johnny English of the Johnny English films. There is a long history of such characters, each of them with their own style. Leslie Nielsen as Frank Drebin combined slapstick, puns, guilelessness, sexual innuendo, and comedic timing to create a truly memorable character you can't help but love.
Weird Al Yankovich apparently too a date to see this movie. He made sure to wear the same outfit that he wore in the film and acted surprised to see himself Liam Neeson is set t star in the remake that's being made. Whilst weird Al may be too old to cameo anymore, I vote that Daniel Radcliffe dress up as him and cameo in his place
I hope they would do both. Modern Al (sans mustache) and Daniel as classic Al showing up, possibly together or fighting for the spot, would be a perfect Naked Gun gag.
As a Finn, let me reassure you, Laplanders *do not* eat nuts! They only eat reindeer which is the most succulent and delicious meats out there. Even better than filet mignon, when pan fried in butter, served with mashed potatoes, lingonberries and pickles. Good eating, indeed!

At the 10:00 minute mark shows a scene where Montoban presses a buzzer and turns his secretary into a killer. That was actually taken from a GREAT MOVIE starring Charles Bronson called, "TELEFON (1978), where there are secret agents who have orders to immediately commit mass terror (eg, bombings, shootings, etc), once they listen to a phonecall with the lines of a poem, ""The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep." The person will immediately go into a trance and commit to completing the task that also invoves suicide. Bronson is in a desperate attempt to stop these attacks and get the list of those agents who are still under that hpnotic spell. One of my favorite movies.
The Naked Gun Trilogy was an extension of the short-lived Police Squad TV show. Leslie Nielsen starred in the show as Frank Drebin. In each episode, there was a special guest star that was only in the opening credits. Why? They were killed off during that part. They never appeared anywhere else in the episode. One of those special guest stars actually made it into the second movie as the villain. You'll see who it is.
Spoof movies are always such a hoot, though my personal favorites are early films by Mel Brooks, or Baseketball by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Though my first introduction to spoof films and Leslie Nielsen was his spoof of spy movies, called Spy Hard. Absolutely hilarious. As others have said, Leslie Nielson has that dry wit with impeccable comedic timing.
My favorite part of this movie was the nod to a great cop movie, Dirty Harry. I've yet to see a reactor know the reference. The "I don't want anymore trouble like you had last year on the south side" is a call to the "I don't want anymore trouble like you had last year in the Fillmore District" scene with the mayor in Dirty Harry. It's a humorous scene and if you search youtube for 'dirty harry Fillmore District, you can watch the scene.
This film is a sequel to the tv show series call Police Squads and only 2 remaining cast on this film are from the tv show and that is Frank Dreblin and Prof. Ted.
Great reaction, Addie. When you've seen the 3 Naked Gun films, you should also check out and react to the six Police Squad! TV series episodes if you can without being blocked. They're where the Frank Drebin character began for Leslie Neilsen in the early 1980s, so the humour is the same silly vein if you like that style! Unfortunately, the TV series was cancelled as it didn't prove too popular, but when Drebin was revived a few years later for the Naked Gun films, it proved to be a hit.
This is a die hard favorite of my dad and me. We rattle off random quotes all the time lol. Top Secret! is another hilarious Zucker brothers movie that nobody seems to remember. It's like a spoof of The Great Escape with Steve McQueen and old Elvis Presley movies with silly music and dancing sequences and has this same kind of goofy screwball comedy. It also stars a young Val Kilmer and he performed all his own singing and dancing. And even though the songs are silly they're still actually pretty catchy and you walk around singing them for days lol. I highly recommend giving it a watch.
Abrahams/Zucker always has hilarious credits. Easily a quarter of the credits are some reference or joke. In "Airplane!" they had a credit list "Worst Boy ... Adolf Hitler" among the additional crew. ZAZ movies are the peak of parody, and I love them. (Zucker Abrahams Zucker, if you don't get the acronym.)
I Luv Leslie Nielsen comedies! Police Squad is hilarious and Frank Drebin is the funniest character in the movie! Now you have to watch the rest of the series! Naked Gun 2 1/2 is just as funny! See you for the next Police Squad! Thanks for sharing Addie ❤️💛
Fun reaction, like you said, they always took it one step (or two) further :) TLDR: This movie brings back fond memories to this 50 something Gen Xer I saw this movie when it came out in 1988 and to this day I have never been so surprised by a movie! Me and some friends went to see "Rain Man" but when we got to the theater, it was sold out!. We were all pretty dejected, but since the bus ride to the theater was about an hour we decided to see another movie, any movie. Turns out The Naked Gun was not sold out, no one knew what it was about, we did not even know it was a comedy, but it had not started yet so we got in. To make things worse, the theater was nearly full so the only place we could all seat together was in the very front row! By the time Norberg tripped and fell face first in the wedding cake, I had literally fell off my chair laughing :)
The scene where his car runs over a fire hydrant was filmed at the Los Angeles Water and Power yard I worked at. One morning a fire hydrant appeared, and we were told to stay in the field all day. I didn't know why until I saw this movie
These movies are a spinoff of the original TV series called Police Squad that had almost all the same cast. It only ran for six episodes, and it even more hilarious than the movies. It's kind of wild that a basically failed show with only six episodes went on to have three movies.
4:55 that exact thing happened later in real life; with a city council which uses wireless microphones. See the video "Council member's bathroom break caught on microphone"
One thing about the umpiring antics, back then it wasn't uncommon for umpires to be, let's say, flamboyant in some of their out calls. In particular, Ron Luciano had a habit of "shooting out" players.

As others have said, Leslie Nielson has that dry wit with impeccable comedic timing.
Another excellent reaction! Keep it up!
Complete the series!
“You killed five actors. Good ones.”
Movies like this trilogy and the Airplane duology are timeless classics still funny decades later.
2:36 I've seen this film dozens of times and this is the first time I've spotted them throwing the cases out the plane.
Yay Finally Good Luck Addie Counts ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊😊
Im convinced you have the best facial expressions of all time so adorable have a good day OKAY ❤❤❤❤❤
7:46 The shock in Addie's face 😁😁😁
Good one, Butterwings! 😆 Yeah, these movies are a hoot. Thanks for sharing it!
Leslie Nielsen discovered later in life he had a real talent for comedy. RIP Leslie.
Super reaction. Thank you.
5:29 - The funniest exchange in the movie for me.
The San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant "boobs" get me every time. When you drive south on the 5 freeway to San Diego, you'll see them. 🤣😂
OJ was so huge during this time. Football, announcing, commercials, movies. Universally loved. "the nicest guy" out there. just a crazy crazy fall.
Who's is Oj...
@@Howiex-is8gq OJ Simpson. You’re kidding right?
Glad Addie got this reaction out before she died in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Years Day.
Fun reaction, like you said, they always took it one step (or two) further :)
TLDR: This movie brings back fond memories to this 50 something Gen Xer
I saw this movie when it came out in 1988 and to this day I have never been so surprised by a movie!
OJ killed it.
I am your host Mr Rourke, welcome to Fantasy Island!!
"Wanna take a dinghy?"
"Oh, no, I went at the station."
2:13 Addie to O.J: "You're dead."
Unfortunately no
You sure about that? 🤨
The scene where his car runs over a fire hydrant was filmed at the Los Angeles Water and Power yard I worked at. One morning a fire hydrant appeared, and we were told to stay in the field all day. I didn't know why until I saw this movie
Addie, you can pretty much expect the same as when you first saw this movie.
11:48 Addie: Surely.. he's dead now
Me: Don't call me Shirley
😂😂😂😂
Fun fact. The guy that yells "Hey, it's Enrico Pallazzo!" is Francis from Pee Wee Herman's Big Adventure.
Excellent reaction! And you notice the end credits even if you didn't show them.
Go for it Stephanie!
One thing about the umpiring antics, back then it wasn't uncommon for umpires to be, let's say, flamboyant in some of their out calls. In particular, Ron Luciano had a habit of "shooting out" players.
This, Airplane, and Dracula Dead and Loving it are great films in my opinion.😊
