The English expression is "I tip my hat..." Virtually the same meaning as the French. After my first listen to the album this was my favorite of the songs I hadn't heard. I think after a few listens though, Shoemaker is my favorite.
And for favourite: I want to give some love to All the Works of Nature that Adorn the World, even though it seems to be more of a Tuomas solo project than a Nightwish work (there's a little bit of Floor, Troy and Kai, but I don't hear anything from Marko or Emppu in it). That said, to me it's like Tuomas's Pastoral Symphony (yes, I know it's not strictly a symphony...) and I think Beethoven would have approved, had he been around to hear it.
I've been absolutely obsessed with Nightwish's new album! Human Nature is so good overall, but Pan is definitely one of my favorites. I really enjoyed watching your reaction and I'll definitely be checking out more of your videos! Subbed!
Dear Elvann, very nice reaction again from you! I think Pan is one of the harder, more heavy metal style songs of the album, beneath Noise and Tribal. But it also plays with this sort of tricky harmonies and chords, which are one of the characteristics of the whole album and is yet melodic and catchy enough to be also an excellent live stuff! I can't wait for the concert, this will be epic!
"I Tip My Hat..." is an English expression to express respect and admiration, so the same as the French one. I'm enjoying your reactions because as usual you are helping to point out what makes the sounds so unique or unusual, and making us non-singers understand how good Floor (and Tuomas and the others) really are. Keep up the great work. I'm really enjoying the new album too, "How's the Heart?" is stunning, and the lyrics are incredibly beautiful. There is also a stunning acoustic version of it with Floor & Troy performing it on the Planet Rock chanel. You should listen to it, it is like a whole new and incredibly beautiful song. Are you going to react to the second disk too? I know there is no singing on it (other than a few choral backings) but it would be great to get your take on the music.
My favourite is "Tribal". The energy is insane. It's like having a hurricane blowing trough you. One of the heaviest songs on the album, and simultaneously one of the most uplifting. It's an experience in its self.
Yes ..i wish i could have heard her singing Pan or Music on the Human Nature Tour. Anyways..it was beautiful and i wish i would have gone there years ago. Many times
Great reaction again. I like the way you are doing it. I‘m definitely interested in videos about music theory. Personally I don’t play an instrument or learned much about music besides the little bit you learn in school, that I almost forgot all. Since I got in touch with classic music, I love classic music, I dived deeper into it and try to learn some things about music theory, to get a deeper understanding. It was fun to learn about sonata form and figuring out all parts of it in some Beethoven symphonies. Just for the record, my favourite composer, besides Tuomas Holopainen ;) , is Gustav Mahler, heard his 1st symphony in concert hall and my favourite symphony by far is his 2nd, the Resurrection symphony. So, yes, please more about music theory!!! How about reacting to classic music? For example Beethovens famous 5th symphony. You could make a video of each movement, for example. Of course it is up to you, you are the boss on your channel. Greetings from Germany. Stay healthy.
Many of the lines appear to reference specific works of literature: Something wicked their way came Great escape An ape in awe before a door There and back.... And that's just some i picked up on in the first part of the song.
Also _"The Sea Lady"_ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sea_Lady and _"Snow, Glass, Apples"_ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow,_Glass,_Apples even the name _"Pan"_ might be a reference to _"The Great God Pan"_ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_God_Pan I just wonder from what literary work comes the _"An ape in awe before a door"_ ?
its my favourite too, you can imagine someone following Pan deeper and deeper into the forest it perfectly fits the mischievous and untamed force of nature that is Pan, god of the wilds!
I love hearing about music theory, and you are always a treasure to watch and listen to :) I’m sure someone else has said it in another comment (I didn’t look), but the phrase in English is “I tip my hat to her” lol. You were super close!
I've listened to the album a few times now, and I think Nightwish did it again. I like how they took some chances, yet still ended up with a sound that is unmistakably theirs, and still packed with emotion. I hadn't even noticed it until a friend mentioned it to me today, but this song in particular really channels that old Wishmaster-era Nightwish. I wonder how much this song was inspired by reviving so many old songs on their Decades World Tour.
Really enjoy your channel. I’m not “trained” musically but feel that I have a good ear for it. I have always agreed with you in regard to Floor in that I am way more impressed with her lower register/range even more than her ridiculous highs. I love the mid-lows in this song especially the “Beautiful tragedy wonderful fantasy “ lines as well as the lower operatic tones in Shoemaker. I was totally impressed on first listen to how difficult the phrasing/precision on Music as well as this and Shoemaker really is. Yes not as showy as GLS but even a non-singer like me can appreciate how hard that is to hit perfectly like she does. I tip my cap to you as well as Floor and all of the band !!!
Thanks for your reactions, they always have some insightful comment! As a suggestion, once you went through all the songs, you might do a final video with a general review on the Human Nature album as a whole, where you can also add some of your interesting musical theory notes. And then a question: which songs do you feel you'd be able to sing, and which ones you leave them to Floor? ;-)
This is my favorite one so far. I haven’t gotten the album yet. But this is really really good. And live it’s going to be so amazing. sucks we’re gonna have to wait for quite a while for that. This one is definitely hitting me. Love it.
OK, a little , alright way off topic here. I have watched a few reaction videos of yours and had no idea, you can sing! You can sing....really.....well! Then I find out, you play Harp, while you're singing. You do both very well. I know it's not uncommon to be able to play and instrument and sing at the same time, but a harp? Just wow. The harp is a bit of a mystery to me, that's why the mind blowing reaction, sorry. But I do love listening to the harp, no can't play a lick on it. I just love a good harp song, sooo relaxing. String instruments are my favorite, but I like drumming too. But the harp, I guess I don't run across a lot of people, well that play harp. It caught me off guard. Ok back to regular programming. Excellent job by the way.
Oh yes! Floor do there hard up runs and even harder down runs. But let us don't forget Emppu's very intense guitar work. This track seems to be the favorite of many, but something insane is yet to come. You'll see. And the right expression is "Nostan hattua". ;- )) See ya!
Empuu's guitar work drives this whole album to me...he is the unsung hero of Nightwish. When you've got as much talent in the band with the other members as Nightwish, that fact that he does very few solos and doesn't have any real "in your face" moments to shine (though we know he is quite capable of ripping it when he does get the chance) means that he sorta gets lost in the shuffle. He's got some great chugging rhythms going on throughout this CD, and they stand out in the mix better on this CD, to me anyway. Glad to see others appreciating Empuu as well!
madDdog 67 Emppu has always had only few solos, which I've also wandered why. His solos are usually very intelligent and not too showy. But I have to admire that Nightwish produces very solid guitar wall with one tiny guitarist when lesser bands needs two or three big hunks. 😉
Yayyyy! This is my second favorite song on this album ( Noise being the favorite) There's just something so catchy and flowy that it automatically makes you want to sing along! If you did a cover of this, I think you'd nail it! :)
My favorite too, but the album itself seems very well made (as always), the way they show how art had a impact in the evolution of humanity, be it through painting, music, theater or other ways, is really fantastic, especially how they contrast this with how humanity has lost the connection with nature through the years later on. Amazing job, both from Nightwish and your review as well, I love to learn more about the technical side of these amazing music, thanks Elvann!
Nice reaction. I can't say Is one of my favorite of the album though, but I enjoyed how you share your musical knowledge. Thank you for that! Looking forward for how's the heart reaction, one of my favorite ones.
This album is amazing! This song remind me so much of "Chess" The musical made by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus ( Former ABBA ), and Tim Rice. I can almost hear Josefin Nilsson (R.I.P.) sing this.
@James Schwarz OMG, Yes. Precisely that. Thanx. I wonder if Tuomas hade the Chess musical in mind, when he composed this track, and mostly, the musicvideo with all the chess pieces.
Once again, nice reaction! ps. I would suggest splitting up your reaction videos in two parts if you keep getting demonetized. One with the music video you are reacting to - sans commentary and one with just the reaction/analysis.
@@ElvannReacts Agreed, it is a pain. It may also be an IQ test 🤣🤣🤣 In all seriousness though I get that copyright laws are intended to protect the work of artists but fair use doctrine for review and or comment needs some serious review because things are really getting out of hand.
My fave off this album, but Im always amused that Noone seems to mentioning the tasty little time change during each heavy instrumental part. It's tiny but such a neat little snack
i cant nail down a favorite their all awesome but the how"s the heart acoustic version really strikes a chord with me and nemo acoustic as well ! might want to check those out after the album reactions cant wait till the live shows resume and i can stop drooling and burning out my keyboards
In English I would "tip my hat", which I guess is the same. Pan is my favourite and quite reminiscient of some of the older albums. Personally I would love you to do a more "technical" review of the album as one video once you've gone through all the songs.
In both this one and Shoemaker, it seems to me that the vocals were arranged, not as a vocal part but as an instrumental part. These two pieces are very different than previous albums I find. BTW, I think the English expression is "tip my hat". Hi from Sudbury Ontario.
This one is my favorite too! Musically it's very complete and balanced, melody and chord progressions are quite unique, a lot of chromatic actions. The lyrics flow, don't "clash" with the melody too much. Arrangement-wise it gives out an early Nightwish vibe a la Wishmaster and Elvenpath. And don't even get me to start mentioning the theme! Nerdgasm! Everything in this song just clicked for me, with a hefty dose of pleasant surprise.
Ha..seeing you enjoy Pan..the resemble with Phantom, bout the more creepy part, yes you're right. When i listen to it now i hear it. I also like that part where Floor sings those words up speed but still clearly to hear and understand, but quite difficult. Nice review, up to the next one!👍
Hi Elvann. I am always looking forward to your reactions. Please don't mind the negative comments. There will always be negative people. But know: there will also be people that support you and I am one of them! I really do like your comment about music theory. I really just enjoy the whole album.
You @Elvann are probably the best person to tell me (us) something. Some reactors and people in comments have not liked how Floor is so much in her higher register in these songs (as it can't "grow" the same way as it would when starting lower). I started to think about this and came to a conclusion that isn't it easier to sings those hard and fast melody lines in your higher register (rather than lower as it would be for Floor if ahe went an octave down) if you want to be as light as Floor is in these? Of course Tuomas could've composed these a bit lower, but it would also affect the whole atmosphere of the songs.
Chromatic descending scale = high risk of sinking and drowning. There is this a cappella duet in the Agnus Dei of the Verdi Requiem and everybody is excited how it will sound when the orchestra sets in. :-D And that's not even a chromatic scale. And on stage, you cannot make a countermovement with your arm. You have to think the notes extremely high.
I lift my hat .... that is something we would say in the Netherlands if we see or hear something amazing that we could not do our-self. The sentence would be 'petje af' or 'daar neem ik mijn pet voor af ' ( hats off /or/ I take my hat off for that)
Even in catalan. We say "em trec el barret". It's a literal translation of "i take my hat off" and we would say it in the same manner as in Netherlands.
Thank you for another excellent analysis. I would like to ask you for a reaction to the Acoustic version of 'How's the Heart' (Nightwish), by Troy and Floor.
This is also my fav song in the album. However, the latter half of all the songs cannot keep up with the beginning. I always have a feeling "that's it?" I thought the end could go big but they just ended
This is one of my favourites on the album (along with How's the Heart). The opening is very Hans Zimmer - sounds just like the Pirates of the Caribbean theme. Like the opening track Music, I can definitely hear some Sondheim influences: Into the Woods or Sweeny Todd. It also reminds me a little of Storytime from Imaginaerum.
This album is so good that i can't even pick a favorite!
Madness Overload same here. I love the entire album

HOW'S THE HEART - the (acoustic/live/Floor/Troy) version is awesome. check that one out :)
I feel you Elvann! I’m with you ❤️! Pan rocks!
Pan is basically a Nightwishification of He Is a Pirate! 😍
Also, Nightwish is one of my favorite Noisemakers! 😂🖤🤘
When songs from this album are performed live at concert it will be very interesting. Quite different and very good, especially Tribal.
Hi Elvann this is my second favorite song from the album I love how it goes from light to heavy in some parts another great reaction.
We say " i tip my hat/cap" we get it . ......love this album and cant wait for Qct. 5th to see them in Brooklyn, NY
Allez, j'te tire mon chapeau aussi, tu le mérites ;-)
Vivement tes prochaines réactions !!
Eric LE NOUY merci! Hihi!
"Me quito el sombrero" is what we say in Spanish. In PR.
Je te lève à mon tour mon chapeau pour tes excellentes évaluations et analyses des pièces de Nightwish :)
Merci 😉
Love your videos and of course would be great if you make some videos explaining music theory.
This has become my fav of the album too, i love how it has this really dark elegant, pretty regal sound.
It is a great day when I wake up to an Elvann reaction to one of my favorite songs on the album!
The American expression is almost the same...I tip my hat to you. "That part is really hard to do." Floor - "hold my beer"
We say it in Brazil too. Same meaning.
Many of the lines appear to reference specific works of literature:
Something wicked their way came
Great escape
An ape in awe before a door
There and back....
An ape in awe before a door has to be a reference to the movie Pans Labyrinth I think.
its my favourite too, you can imagine someone following Pan deeper and deeper into the forest
it perfectly fits the mischievous and untamed force of nature that is Pan, god of the wilds!
I love hearing about music theory, and you are always a treasure to watch and listen to :) I’m sure someone else has said it in another comment (I didn’t look), but the phrase in English is “I tip my hat to her” lol. You were super close!
This song is one of my favourites too. Kinda has Pirates of Caribbean vibes. I imagine it will be really good live
For 'i lift my hat' we say Petje af in Dutch. This was the song i instantly liked and so did Tribal. The whole album is amazing.
Looking forward to your cover of this song, Elvann
This is indeed another great one, and it reminded me a little of "Where Were You Last Night" at the beginning (melody wise).
I Love your Reaction.. ❤ simpel, clean and honest💋
6:37 There's only one possible reply to your comment: "Sing! Sing for me. Sing, my Angel of Music!" 😁
PAN is my favorite track on this album, follows up being How is the heart, Showemaker, and Music, also great songs.. well the whole album is great..!!
thanks for this reaction … I look forward to each one that you do …
Really enjoy your channel.
In Finland we also say "I lift my hat" :D
I also like this song the most~
Greats!!!! Like your reaction!
Коментар професіонала радує!!!
А особливо, коли композиція Вам подобається!
Ваші cower виконання, Клас(greats).
Human Nature is a bit underrated in my opinion. This album is very progressive, unique, and awesome! Floor kills it, as does the band!!
I so want to see this live... 😍😍🤘🤘
My favorite song from the album, amazing
Bruno Santos Same! I love it. An ode to the human imagination, especially an ode to stories. There’s a lot of references to books in it. I adore it.
Thanks for your reactions, they always have some insightful comment!
As a suggestion, once you went through all the songs, you might do a final video with a general review on the Human Nature album as a whole, where you can also add some of your interesting musical theory notes.
And then a question: which songs do you feel you'd be able to sing, and which ones you leave them to Floor? ;-)
🤘🤘❤️🤘🤘 Ah another Great one on a whole project if great!!!! 😁🤘🤘 And I hope you remain safe and well!!!! ❤️😊
Yayyyy! This is my second favorite song on this album ( Noise being the favorite)
There's just something so catchy and flowy that it automatically makes you want to sing along!
If you did a cover of this, I think you'd nail it! :)
Awwnn thank you! I might!
Lol Loved to see you enjoying this one ... Your face expresion told me all you wanted to say Thank you
Nice reaction.
That could be an idea, but I believe viewers will just end up being confused. 🤣 There isn't much way around it tbh
@@ElvannReacts Agreed, it is a pain. It may also be an IQ test 🤣🤣🤣
In all seriousness though I get that copyright laws are intended to protect the work of artists but fair use doctrine for review and or comment needs some serious review because things are really getting out of hand.
Subbed. I see you recently got 10k subs. Congrats!
I take my hat off to her is an english expression .....Another brilliant track !!!!!!!
You're uber cute when you really get into the music :) Pan's definitely a strongpoint of the album. Love it!
this will be an absolutely amazing live song
This is by far their best song on the album
Ha..seeing you enjoy Pan..the resemble with Phantom, bout the more creepy part, yes you're right. When i listen to it now i hear it. I also like that part where Floor sings those words up speed but still clearly to hear and understand, but quite difficult. Nice review, up to the next one!👍
I think "i lift My hat" is a worldwide expression. In Venezuela, we say "me quito el sombrero" which is almost the same
Hallo Elvann, in one interview Floor say Music,Shoemaker and Pan most tricky for her...
love this song, my fave off the album as well. nothing quite like it in the nightwish catalog. it must be exhausting to sing this.
ape before the door may be a reference to space odyssey 2001 with the monolith ..
You have to think the notes extremely high.
my favorite on this album!
I always have a feeling "that's it?" I thought the end could go big but they just ended
the 2nd cd is like a bonus cd imho. rating the album based on cd 1, it is not imaginerium, but soars over endless forms. between once and wishmaster.
despairingleonardo She didn't even hear the whole album to this point so it's not confirmed that it's her favourite of the whole thing
Certainly one of my favorites from the album!
O man. This isn't just an album. These are very impressive and beautiful messages on a disk.
In English we say "Tip my hat." It is kind of like a salute. ;-)
