    These videos are great, and enthusiastic as well. I'm glad someone is trying to educate, and not showing off a level of talent that makes me want to trade in my synth for a bottle of whiskey and a rope

    Great videos! Thanks for posting them they are still handy a decade later

    I am reading the Tony Horgan book and I think I remember reading that " Func" key and 13 gives a metronome.
    However I am wet behind the ears with all this and have a lot to learn.
    I really appreciate your videos in demonstrating to us how to use it.
    I am an oldie ( really old) so am pleased that others don't find it so straight forward!,,
    You have made a lot clear to me now.
    Now I understand how a step sequencer works and basically how the Volga Beats works.
    I just need to DO IT.
    Thanks a lot.
    Pete

    While in step mode you can move right and left thru instruments by using the step arrow buttons.

    the part buttons are the least used buttons on this thing. Much more fun to go in and out of step mode!

    Let me just add that you can change the sound while tr style recording by hitting the part up and down. Saving you from coming in and out of step and play mode... What I haven't figured out is how to permanently erase the presets and permanently store your own. Just got this sucker, and you save me from reading the manual! GREAT VIDEOS! You are my goto guy!

    Great video, Marc. Could you please do a video (or a series) on the Dave Smith TETR4? There just aren't enough good videos on that thing.

    I love this thing so fun and easy to use almost like an easier version of more expensive complex drum machines! I love to play with this and then sample to my Elektron Octatrack and then mangle the drum samples further. I was thinking of getting a bigger more expensive drum machine but after getting this, I feel no need to waste money on one!

    The step mode is actually pretty standard, it is featured on most drum machines since the x0x series. The 3rd way of recording beats is certainly more adapted to a bass-line thing like a 303 or... the volca bass :)
    Awesome gear anyway, thanks for your cool demos

    A partial solution in some situations could be to run the sync-in of the Volca Beats off something giving a straight tempo and build a "swing box" to put in between which takes the straight tempo and gives a swing one (the amount of swing controlled by a knob).
    This would probably be an unorthodox setup but it could work for someone.

    You don’t have to leave step mode to swap parts. There’s a part left and right button just about the step mode button :)

    Do you run from your headphone out straight to your audio interface? When I tried to record the Korg last night, the signal was very weak. Any tips on that?

    • @PaoloPaceDrums
      @PaoloPaceDrums 7 років тому +1

      Use a DI! Balances the signal so there's less resistance. If you don't have one, a high Z option on one of your interface's channels should do the trick too.

    I bet that you could make a pretty close replica of Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing"-percussion with this little beast =)

    how much volca series cost?

  • @thomaspappon1453
    @thomaspappon1453 9 років тому +5

    Very helpful...but the video doesn't actually show how to record the beats, its explains how to create them. So I was a bit frustrating.

    • @automaticgainsay
      @automaticgainsay  9 років тому +3

      +Thomas Pappon How could I possibly portray how to record beats? Everyone has a different means of recording...

    • @thomaspappon1453
      @thomaspappon1453 9 років тому

      Sorry, it was a misunderstanding...what I meant was that you did not show how to 'store' a beat

    • @falica77
      @falica77 8 років тому +1

      +Thomas Pappon It has 8 memory locations. It's using the memory, function and step buttons.

    • @FuzzyDereck
      @FuzzyDereck 4 роки тому +1

      I wasn’t frustrated, because it was still a good video, but I DID watch this because I thought it would be about how this person recorded their made beats to a DAW, lol.
      I just bought a 3.5mm male to 1/4in female adapter & I’m gonna do it that way. OR I might just buy that MIDI Out mod I’ve seen online, haha.

    Aaaand, at 7:00, Marc manages to fail at failing. I've clearly had far too much coffee, because I found this disproportionately amusing.

    So this kind of like a 606 then. X0x sequencers have been around for years. They do sound robotic, that is their beauty, just ask electro or house. One judge omission here, that is a del breaker for me on a TR style sequencer is...NO SWING ? WTH Korg ? Swing on a drum machine ibises it its character :(

  • @yorkshireteafan
    @yorkshireteafan 11 років тому

    The 606 doesn't have swing either.

    If only this had a MIDI out, I don't like the snare, it'd be cool to integrate the Nord Drum into this.
