Your intuition is totally correct that her throat would be in pain if she made that sound the way you would make that sound. But you are totally incorrect because she doesn't make the sound that way. The growling sound is made with the false cords, not the vocal cords, so there is no damage to the vocal cords. She can switch back and forth because she "just" has to switch which part of her throat she is using (it only took her years of practice to master her skills). She says she feels like she has "two throats" one for cleans and the other for growls. I have heard that she also says the growls are easier and if her throat gets tired from clean singing, she growls parts she would normally do clean, but I haven't seen that interview myself. Logically, whichever part of her throat she is using, she's giving the other part a chance to rest. And there are plenty of metal vocalists who only perform with false cord growls. She did 152 shows last year, frequently performing back to back shows for days as she did on their north American tour which was 42 shows in 60 days. This year they are getting a long vacation though.
Here is a bootleg of Tatiana from 2011 - the oldest video of her performing I've been able to find on YT. As epic as it is, her voice is stronger in every way today ua-cam.com/video/ElC6zlGH46I/v-deo.html I will say, I suspect she seldom uses that rapid switching technique anymore because it was probably hard on her vocally. The only song where she does it a bit is the song they play first in their sets - called Teacher Teacher. It is one of their most popular so it gets the crowd pumped, but it also means she's going into that song with her voice fresh, if that rapid switching is more difficult.

@@yaserali92 Also, to see how strong her voice is today. She put out a video a couple of days ago that is "Tatiana Shmayluk (JINJER ) - One Take Vocal Performance - Judgement (& Punishment)". She and her band are back together after being separated for 6 months during the pandemic. So, she is doing some videos really to get back into shape for touring again. And this is a perfect example of her just practicing.

Nah.....she still does rapid changes. Judgement and punishment has a few, but they still do Sit Stay roll over, every show ......
Here they are just a month or so ago in Melbourne.....

If you blow your throat trying to sing like her, then you're obviously doing it wrong. She's been doing it for over a decade and still sounds like an angel, so obviously she's doing it right.

They say if it hurts to sing that way, your doing it wrong. And shes wrapped in gold for a reason.

She does tend to look different every time, but she sounds just as amazing every time. And the band itself is so impressive. Extremely talented.🤘

She uses her false cords that does not use nor damage her vocal cords. She's mastered it after years of self training.

Epic performance! Truly special and talented band, live they are even better. Try the studio version of "Teacher, Teacher" or for another great live performance where she goes even lower with the growls "Who´s Gonna Be The One" live. Great reaction.

The technique she uses puts no strain on her vocal cords because she doesn't use them to make that sound. Growls use the false chords and if done properly hurts nothing.

False cords logically not the vocal cords

Using one crappy earbud shows me that you're not interested in hearing the presentation as the creators intended. For a music reaction / reviewer, you might want to put the music first, unless, of course, you're deaf in your right ear. Then all is forgiven. Thanks for your consideration, Yaser.
