I really enjoy your channel but would you please look more in too who you are promoting..... the established titles is ,I am not gonna say scam because you do recieve something for your money but not at all what you thought and the whole tree planting and saving already saved lands is.
@Kelley Lolley exactly, but the way they promote it makes it sound like more, I would just appreciate if maybe be more truthful or at the end have something with a warning. I am sure they would still sell it is a funny gift but they are selling this entirely too seriously and just puts a bad taste in my mouth when i really ljke the channel. Maybe i am expecting too much. I also really don't like the part when they prompted about the trees and saved land that's all proven b.s.
@@apoorvsingh4459 I don't think there's enough information to know absolutely for sure at this point. But I feel like she and Daniel probably created it but at some point she was trying to shut it down and Henry and Sebastian took over.
On eps 1, when all of the passengers put down their tea cup simultaneously, it kinda foreshadowed that they were not in the real world. This is the first clue i got that perhaps they were in a dream world or something.
As soon as the show opened with "the brain is wider than the sky" by Emily Dickinson, I had a hunch 1899 would toy with the concept of reality. The teacup scene is what confirmed my hunch for me!
I honestly thought the lady she was talking to was like mind controlling everyone on the ship since it appeared they all followed her lead. Obviously that wasn't the case
You know what's funny I'm rewatching right now. And basically all relationships are triangles too. Maura+Eyk+Daniel, Jerome+Clemence+Lucien, Lucien+Ling Yi+Olek, Ramiro+Angel+Krester.
Which I think like dark sets it up for 3 seasons, meaning 3 views of reality, 3 layers of simulations, before then finally at the end of the 3rd season we finally open the triangle to maybe see the real reality. 😮
Really they pulled simulation in a tv series in a way nobody pulled yet.I searched many simulation related tv series instead got dumpster shows but when I started watching 1899 I don't know it was full of fake reality which I wanted to see in tv.
Matrix 4 wasn't terrible but just refried beans. This show created a great mystery box. Loved the ending. Had no idea where this was going but high production quality and flawless CGI. Loved the 1900 century setting and steamships.
I absolutely love the Matrix. All the sequels are trash. In fact nothing the Wachowskis did after that was really exciting. And for me that's tragic, because I would love them to get back to there full potential. And actually I braced myself that this might happen to Baran Bo Odar and Jantje Friese too. Luckily it didn't.
At first, I thought Daniel was the grown-up version of Elliot. Something to do with the time matrix like 'Dark'. Well I was super wrong as things went on.. Blehh
I thought that too but their eye colors were different so i thought that this is not the case.. but man that kid really looked like his father.. The casting is immaculate just like it was in DARK
When I watched “Making 1899” and realized how many different languages they where speaking I was AMAZED. They couldn’t understand each other but somehow it seemed like they could from their body language. This is the type of show I love. Sci-fi/ thriller/ mind bending show!! There are tons of hidden meanings and symbolisms in the show, this is the type of show you can watch twice and still catch things you didn’t notice the first time .
@@abhisekgupta1543 oooh I was looking at that. A black widow. Could she be a virus in plain sight? I didn’t see her in the pods. She has got be some sort construct
Not necessarily. If the real world is a spaceship with 1400 rescued passengers. All of them will be part of the simulation. BTW. Nice to have spaceship passengers be on a real ship in the simulation.
Here’s my take: -her brother isn’t alive; it’s an AI with his personality -her real husband is the captain; she almost immediately had an emotional connection with him -the memory of her with the dark haired guy is fake/altered and he himself may be a program that acts as a failsafe -the simulation takes people back 200 years so that they’re in an environment totally foreign and unfamiliar, which makes them easier to control -the simulation is a social experiment before they reach their destination; all the talk about the human brain and how people behave and why they do what they do, much like ants in a Petri dish -the simulation is on a boat, because they are in a “boat” to their new home and could die if their responses to new situations is poor so this is to test their resolve
I saw the chemistry between the captain and her but also her chemistry with daniel felt right. Maybe its a love triangle like the symbol. Because daniel was so annoyed by the captain.
I think that's a pretty neat take. But I have to ask: If this space ship is a survival mission, why the FUCK would they be subjecting the only humans onboard to some of the most mind fucking, traumatizing situations possible? I'd want those people to be of sound mind when they reached their destination.
@@Kronikore there’s a term in psychology called Resilience. Some people have it and some don’t. When some are thrown into a tense situation, they excel and can think rationally, while the others may panic and cause chaos. The end result could possibly separate the leaders from the followers on their new home planet. I don’t know; I’m just theorizing.
I am honestly wondering if the real husband of Maura is the captain. They just had such a chemistry. Also, pointing out what someone else said that Eyk can form Key and that Daniel is an anagram for Denial. I just dont think he is the husband bu we will see.
Ya I’m on the fence with that one as well I could tell early on that Elliot was her son and Daniel was his father so that part didn’t surprise me but I mean Elliot’s hiding place is under a grave inside Maura’s memory and Daniel says to Maura that she can’t stop him from dying that she needs to let him go some shit like that he’s obviously deceased but I’m not sure about Daniel since he has a room next to her and his own memory like everyone else who is still alive but there is definitely something with Maura and Eyk you knew from the moment they met, I never thought about how Eyk can form key I think you’re right about that.
I like how it's a bug that opens doors....cause bugs opens backdoors in computer programs Also they brings out quantum computer...which uses electro's unique property spin up or spin down as bits....so those Morse code looking up and down triangles could be electron spin up and spin down state
The quantum computer jumped out to me as well. It suddenly put the show firmly into sci-fi territory. If it's a colony ship, the simulation would mirror reality, suggesting a very big backdrop to this whole story. The wide range of languages suggests a colony ship. Implying a new world. But her brother hijacked the system, and trapped his sister in an endless loop, and likely turned the ship around. I assume she uploaded the consciousness of her husband and child to tag along for the ride, which is creepy.
Yeah but I found olek's to be one of the weirdest of the bunch. Picture he's been carrying on the ground, blood trail through the snow and him submerged in what appeared to be crude oil. I was waiting to find out he murdered the real olek and took his place but from what we're shown he appeared genuine atleast on the surface.
@@evandipasquale9255 If he took the real Olek's place, that would explain why he and Ying Li have such a deep connection. And later Ying Li and Ramiro too.
@@annaf3915 the weirdest thing has to be where did all these memories come from? Was everything just made up to keep everyone in stasis without trying to escape? We know everyone is on what appears to be a sleeper ship so based on the technology on that ship we can assume none of those people never even lived in the yr 1899.
When Maura wakes up in the final scene and begins looking at the fellow passengers still locked in the simulation, there is a passing glimpse of two empty passenger slots. I suspect one of the slots belonged to Daniel....But it's a theory. Looking forward to the future of the show.
If it is Daniel’s then the other could be Elliot’s, only maybe he didn’t make it. But I believe this thing in space is just another simulation like in inception.
This show is like Life on Mars, Inception and the Matrix all smooshed together. Good stuff. I’m not convinced the final scenes are set in reality though.
Yeah, I am pretty sure that's not their reality. That date on the monitor gave the same vibes of Kerberos, and ending SamRaimi-esque eye close up shot kinda proves it.
I've never binged a show so fast. I accomplished nothing today other than having my mind f*cked multiple times. It isnt a masterpiece like DARK (I never expected anything to surpass absolute perfection and I'm okay with that), but it was a 9/10. Loved it so much! I hope we get S2 within a year or two.
Alright, after that glowing recommendation I 100% have to watch Dark now, I'm beyond excited after watching 1899. I feel like an "awesome bingeable show" junkie and finding out about something that's guarenteed to be this good before my week off is my crack.
@@darthvegaslastnamenotrequi5698 You're in for the biggest mindf*ck of your life, especially in S2 and S3. I wish I could erase my memory and watch it again for the first time. Best thing I've ever watched... And I've seen a lot of great TV. Just a piece of advice: It starts out a little slow, kind of like 1899, so just try to stick it out, because things get bonkers by episode 3 and by that time, you won't be able to stop. It's extremely complicated in the best way. This one is really the showrunners magnus opus and most agree on that. You're in for one hell of a treat! Enjoy!

@@darthvegaslastnamenotrequi5698 You won't be disappointed! Dark is the best series I've EVER watched. Totally wonderful, mind-bending, heartfelt & indescribable really as it's so different from everything else. The music, the colour pallettes used, the attention to every little detail - I won't ruin it for you but it's just AMAZING! A 10/10! I've watched all 3 series multiple times now 😅 I always choose to watch the subtitles on foreign programmes & films as I like to hear the real voices & sounds/soundtracks that are on them. (But I always like to hear how bad/good the dubbing is out of interest to see how the voices match etc). But please, for Dark, if you were ever thinking about watching it dubbed - don't do it! The background sounds are pretty bad for a start. But worst of all, the American voice actors are all wrong for most of the parts (it's horrendous & jarring 😩 - German voice actors speaking English should have been the only preference for the dubbing & ones who match the original actors voices). Watch the subtitles with the original German dialogue as it makes it all perfect. And most of all - enjoy! I've recommended it to so many people & it being in German so they got put off by the subtitles meant a lot of them didn't fancy watching it, but the ones who actually did watch it on my recommendations absolutely loved it & thought it was amazing. I'm still working on my husband to watch it now! 🤣
I still think the dad is behind this…. Remember in episode 2 when Maura tells the boy “I thought I was lost when I was younger, our father drove me and my brother into a forest and left us there. We thought we was lost - but he was watching us the whole time to see how we’d react”
If I remember it correctly, Mauras father said something about the people in the simulation. That they always die because they are too dependent of their emotions and their decisions lead to their deaths. So, what if the purpose of the simulation is to teach the people on the spaceship to make more rational decisions and not be driven so much with their emotions, to create a new society on another planet. And if they know how to do that, they can get out of the simulation?
Did anyone else realize that season one of dark ended with the girl telling Jonas “welcome to the future” and in 1899 it’s her brother greeting her with “welcome to reality” Nice little Easter egg
Plot twist: the ending everybody wakes up from their pods with new memories, thinking they have just awoken from hypersleep. The Prometheus space ship is the new setting for the simulation. It’s not reality, it’s just another simulation. 1899 only runs for 1 season. The makers of the series will create a new series called 2099.
@@JustinMoralesTheComposer it’s easily one of the best shows ever created I don’t understand why they won’t watch it lol. The people I have gotten to have been like holy shit... this show isn’t really close to as good but still well done

I loved the design of the Kerberos and Prometheus, they looked so real and physical. Such a work of art. I also saw that there is that easter egg in regards to the vibe the simulated ocean liner named Prometheus feels very similar to how the tug named Artic Warrior encountered the Antonia Graza in Ghost Ship.
Also what struck me: at the end I was realizing that there were literally 3 different time eras. First we thought they were living way back in the late 1800s or early 1900s then you started to think that they must be more progressive because of the technology and dream of Daniel where you could see a modern room and finally at the end of the series you’re like….. damn, they be living in the future.
You think the final scene was in the real world? I assume its just another simulation. I loved the show but the ending made it so we cant trust anything we have seen or are seeing. Are any of the characters back stories real? How could they be if they are in 2099. Loved the final reveal but it kinda invalidates everything before.
@@roostre5254 all the backstories probably aren't specifically true. For example, tove probably was raped by some space Nobel at lasergun point, instead of some old timey land lord who think her brother ruined his sons purity.
@@emergenceproxy But.....real life Krester did not have a scar on is face! I think its more liklely that Ciaran is messing with them and giving them all false memories
I noticed the prometheus spacecraft has the same number of people on it as the simulation ship, but eyk suggested the kerberos has more people on it, which would suggest people that are not on the spacecraft are inside the simulation.
If it’s a simulation that they are not supposed to figure out/wake up from - why does Maura wake on the ship having those bruises from the restraints in the hospital on her arms? Is it to help her remember? Why would they (whoever they is) write the bruises into the code for the sim? You’d think they would just leave it out if it wasn’t for some purpose. I also wonder who the captain is. There seems to be more of a relationship there between him and Maura. With the book reference of the awakening - the protagonist falls in love with another man. It’s about motherhood and sexual and individual freedom. There is also in the book the story line of protagonist being mental ill due to her beliefs/preferences on feminism sexuality identity motherhood etc. So I believe the book holds more clues I am thinking the spaceship is also a simulation. Historically throughout the show during times of stress or catastrophe “wake up” was used to return them to starting point/spawn point in the sim of the boat. They hear wake up and gasp in a kind of “reset reality” in bed, no action has started yet. This is exactly what happens on the spaceship. She hears and sees wake up - and arrives in a so far actionless “bed” on the spaceship. Also it’s interesting Daniel has a flashlight. The ships name - Prometheus- is the story of stealing fire/light (knowledge) from the gods and bringing it down to the human. In some illustrations this is done with a torch (ie a flashlight). Prometheus is also called the “light bringer”. So interesting connection there perhaps?
Okay. So, I was SUPER excited about the direction that this show was going. As a screenwriter, I am a huge fan of psychological thrillers and I especially admired the "we're in a simulation" theme that 1899 has going for it. I have studied topics within the science world pertaining to how the brain interprets reality, and I have noticed tons of great details throughout each episode. I am also certified in cybersecurity... First, I'd like to point out the symbol with the triangles, specifically the inverted ones with the line through them. This symbol is actually the symbol for the classical element of earth, which may represent how the characters in the story must essentially "come down to earth" or come to terms with why they left their homelands for a new world... Secondly, when watching the show, it's important to know the distinction between the pyramid that is often referenced by different characters and the triangular-shaped McGuffin (as we call it in the screenwriting world) that the boy brought onto the ship Kerberos. The object (the McGuffin) is actually a tetrahedron, which is often mistaken as a pyramid. A pyramid has a square base, while a tetrahedron has triangles on all sides. Regardless, a tetrahedron is what is known as a platonic solid, meaning that it is 1 of only 5 possible shapes in three-dimensional space that have all sides of the same two-dimensional shape. An octahedron is one of these platonic solids and is basically two pyramids pressed against each other at their square base. The point is that these platonic solids play a major roll in how objects can be built in a simulation... One more more very important thing that people should understand about the story is when the husband Daniel changes the code of the simulation to transfer the capabilities of the black "pyramid" into the colorful toy "pyramid." This event presents the idea that (as long as the code isn't a part of the hardware of the computer) digital code can be changed WITHIN the simulation itself. This happens often with viruses (both computer viruses AND biological viruses that enter our bodies.) Viruses can cause mutations within simple and complex celled organisms, and computer viruses can scramble code within certain programs. The idea of Kerberos as the name of the ship is important (as Paul pointed out) because Kerberos is an actual computer network protocol that authenticates users, ensuring that the user is who the user says the user is. Unfortunately, Kerberos - the computer network protocol - cannot protect the computer from corrupt files that are already there. So, unfortunately, sinking the Kerberos ship may not have changed anything about the psychological states that were already present within the passengers as they are in the midst of the journey of self-actualization. The simulation would have just started over on a new loop anyway as Daniel was trying to point out. The only way to stop the madness was to wake Maura up in the "real world" so that she could terminate the program from outside the simulation... Such a brilliant show.
Cool story the things is there are no fucking respect point on the internet tell your mom your a screenwriter she'll care just as much as us Hint: we just tell you honestly to shut the fuck up cause we dont care
one thing that i notice about this series is that it is very similar to video games like Until Dawn, and the Dark Anthology games. Firstly, we are introduced to a lot of main characters. and sometimes when these “main characters” make a decision like picking up a vial or a gun or opening a door to something you hear a sharp tone in the background. almost like these characters just made a decision that would heavily impact the future. lastly, there’s Henry who seems to be the narrator/curator looking over these stories unfolding, judging them for their decisions. idk, it’s just giving that vibe to me.
I always love these kinds of shows and always have trouble deciphering what the hell it was all about at the end. I just wish they would include a FULL explanation episode, same as the 'making of' episode. Some of us don't actually want to still be in the 'Dark' at the end 😊
Loved the show. I initally thought the green-dress pimp woman was behind something when she was talking at the table in E1 and suddenly everyone else in the room took a drink simultaneously, but then nothing else seemed to come of that. It was also a little disappointing that the black stuff didn't seem to do anything more than turn her arm black. Maybe these two things were just red herrings. They didn't detract from the overall show though. It was brilliant and I can't wait for more.
Meh. The show is stupid. It's a snake eating it's own tail. It calls itself a mystery but all the answers are bizarre and random. It might as well have all been made by the flying spaghetti monster.
@@creasem01st65 i know... But coming from Dark, i was hoping for tight knit writing. This is very sloppy, i only hate it because i really wanted to love it. It doesn't make sense for the kid to have been quiet all that time, it only gives purpose to the tension in the show. It doesn't make sense for Daniel to wait so long (if he knows the simulation runs for 8 days) before intervening through the key to everything, Maura. "White rabbit" was also the official trailer song for "The Matrix Resurrections" which can give very early simulation hints. Also I feel like the unnamed crew member might in fact be Ciaran, he's a redhead just like Maura, only he and Daniel had the devices needed to control simulation and based on the fact that Maura didn't recognize her supposed husband on board, her brother could also been hiding in plain sight all along. Anyway he's credited as Sebastian at IMDB so I might be very wrong.
Damn, yeah that’d be an awesome twist! even though they say his name is Sebastian it could just be a fake name he gave him self so that nobody would know who he is. also remember even Maura gave her herself a different last name and her brother didn’t call her by her real name either. So I feel like it could still work.
Daniel is one of the passengers. He has his own memory, like every one else. Only he is a few steps ahead. So he will have a manipulated memory as well.
This series is awesome and I'd never even heard of it until I saw your breakdown. I hope Netflix promotes is correctly and doesn't drop it and lose a really interesting series like they have done so many times.

@@Just9n__ Yes it's definitely worth watching even if it's only one season. The production quality is excellent with creepy atmospheric visuals and sound and the 1900 steam ships are beautifully rendered. It's a slow burn mystery box that keeps you guessing. The ending nicely wraps up the story. Sometimes one season is enough like Westworld season 1 was a masterpiece then 2 was still good but 3&4 doesn't work as there's no story left to tell.
Jantje and Bo certainly have big minds. Seems like they’re gradually mapping out the possible structures and storylines of future seasons. The conclusion of 1889 Season 1 left us with more lingering questions that answers. Big question is, are all the passengers willing participants of this whole simulation? How about their flashbacks? Why are they so traumatic? What could Ciaran look like, that sort of thing. We appreciate your entire breakdown. 1889 opens up more portals in the process. They’re all never-ending.
A lot of those passengers were not meant to have tickets. Survivors' guilt? I couldn't help but wonder if the program was therapy gone wrong - or an intentional punishment.
Yes, but it didn't really match the tone of the show. The mood of the show was much more dreary, then the more upbeat songs at the end on some of them seem off to me
I feel like the crew member with no name is Maura's brother, Ciaran. We know he is working for the father, and notably, he was the only worker allowed inside the simulation on the ship. Additionally the obvious, he is the only other person in the series with red hair like Mauras.
Just finished this and just keep in mind- the creators think long term. If you watched the first season of DARK, you would be equally confused as you were at the ending of 1899. I trust the process. I love high concept stuff and these guys can nail this easily.
Pretty sure elliot is dead. Hence there is a grave and happens so when they go down into the space it is a childs room and its the first simulation theyve created.
First 2 episodes were a bit slow, but oh my god from episode 3 and on wards it was a hell of a ride... The cast is amazing and the story is fucken mind blowing... something original and fresh.. I fucken loved it.
I don't think the son is real. I think he is a child born in the simulation which is why she needed to loop that particular instance to save him. It also explains why the husband doesn't care about the boy.
As far as Maura's room number 1011. According to Google: "In numerology, the number 1011 is a special number and a message of change. This number signifies the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. It encourages you to let go of the past and embrace the new opportunities that are coming your way." Don't know if this is the case for the show but it seems to fit!
Have to say, I was ready to shrug the show off leading into the last 2 episodes, ready to discard my thoughts of it having mind bending elements and I was really confused, but they really pull the rug out from you with those last two episodes. I had the biggest grin on my face that last episode. I'm glad Dark will have a successor show because I really thought I'd never experience something like that again. I think the "crew member" is her brother though. He's the only other person who knows how the simulation works and we know nothing about him. Afaik everyone who can control the simulation is inside of it to an extent, even her father and husband.
If you’re talking about the first mate i agree, i was thinking thats her brother too. My biggest thing is that they’re both red heads. Although he is German and they’re English. Unless that’s all apart of the illusion 🤔
@@kingtide69 I'd also like to point out that when the first mate found her in the last episode, his accent seemed to have changed and his English was clearer than ever. He had no German accent like before, so that theory is very possible to be true. I never thought of that

Great video, Paul! Thanks for this! Also for Theory Time, the first thing that came to mind is that this is just another simulation layer. Like the dream layers in inception. Also Daniel might be in one of the other SIMs, like how he tethers into the Kerberos from the Prometheus ship. Cheers!
Why were Maura's father and husband fighting each other if they all wanted the same thing: To wake her up? Why would nobody tell Maura anything until the end, if what triggered the ending was just telling her everything anyway? Without answers to this, it seems like the same conclusion could have been reached in just a couple of episodes, and every other conflict was just padding.
Yes, Her husband Daniel is still mysterious. Even tho he knew about her brother, He never discloses that he's a bad guy till the very end. One plausible explanation could be Daniel's just the reflection of her and her forgotten memories. If they get reset, He could act as a backup Maura trying to guide her. He only revealed when Maura started to understand what was really going on! Actually, I think they did a pretty good job leaving those loose ends for our own interpretations.
I think because of the experiment. To overall study everyone's else behavior and emotions. They allowed all of that to happen before Maura's identity was revealed.
That ending gave me a lot more questions than answers, why did they leave Earth? Where are they going? How did the simulation get hijacked by her brother? Why did he? How long? Was it always the 1899 Ship loop, and there's been some kind of mutiny on the 2099 space ship Prometheus? Did they pull a Matrix and find their way out of the simulation? AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!
Quick disclaimer... First time viewer that stumbled upon this video a few days back while seeking a trailer to introduce this amazing series to good friend. At the time, I still had episodes 7&8 to view so I didn't need anything spoiled for this psychological thriller! Great video and loved hearing your thoughts about the complexities found within just about every nook & cranny. I returned to this video in hopes to find explanation of the how/why their simulation is in 1899? I came away from the series that "something" horrific happened to Earth and the Prometheus is humanity's best effort to prolong our existence/prevent from going extinct. I believe the mind is truly puzzling and why I found joy in this exploration into 'the unknown' (I think it was first episode when captain makes comments about them floating above deepest part of Atlantic and how it's the last frontier on Earth to be explored) This is what makes me question why you think these occupants are being tortured? True... there is much we have yet to uncover as far as Maura's brother goes, but like we're told in the beginning (and as you mentioned) they're running from "something" and until we face our fear(s) it'll always be a form of torture. Thanks for great break down and I'm sure we're all looking forward to a 2nd season for 1899!!
The woman with the green dress has the triangle pattern on the sleeve of her dress and the woman married to the guy who had the seizures, hair barrette is the design of the triangle as well… They show it really quick, but I caught it…
wait if she has the triangle outside of simulation wouldnt it mean that she is still stuck in simulation cause as far as i remember triangle seemed to hinted throughout the series that they were in a simulation
When I watched the intro for the 9th time (after I had seen the last episode). I’ve now faith that the creators has a plan for the whole story and all its characters. Basically Plato’s Cave in action. Really amazing stuff. Wow. Edit* I need you to analyze the intro in a video. So much good stuff and I'm sure you will be able to see stuff that I missed. ^^
Me and the misses worked out most of this series just by the intro, was absolutely laughing when we saw the final episode as we had already discussed most of it, the intro says so much.
If you know Dark you shouldn't have worried about that. They created that show with the end in mind. It will definitely not be like Lost, where the show runners just keep on going until they run out of ideas
I loved Dark… watched it so many times!!! This was another thrilling series and you made some great observations and I can’t wait to see what’s next. I can’t seem to subscribe to your channel… which I would love to do.
I don't think it was ever explained who "killed" and in later episode we witness the crew member take people down with his device... perhaps this "crew member" / inside man is the key to keep the simulation on repeat? (I.E. cause enough chaos so people aren't asking why haven't they hit America yet and ultimately the simulation/ship is shut down)
The green beetle (whatever its actual purpose was) basically was a guide that pointed out for Daniel and Elliot what needed to be done next. It lured Ada to the deck so Daniel could kill her, which as I understand it would lead to certain set of necessary events. Also note when the boy was following the green beetle it seemed to know exactly how to avoid danger and lead them to where they needed to go, and it also unlocked/created the doors which they needed to enter. Likely this bug was programmed by Daniel and/or Maura, as in a flashback scene Elliot wanted to keep the beetle.
Im so mad Netflix canceled this show. Sci-fi shows don't do well anymore, and it's so irritating. Raised by wolves was also canceled despite is being a captivating show.:/
Free your mind (little Matrix quote). It's easier to see what gem 1899 is when you detach from expecting it to be like dark. Also both shows become better and better when you ponder them a bit.
first thing i thought when thinking about what Daniel said ... that he we would always be there , could daniel maybe be an AI aboard the spaceship ? Also something that got me thinking ... The father said all these sims end the same , basicly the can't get along , and they die! maybe this sim was created because that spaceship is traveling to a new world for colonisation and to see if they would be able to work together once they are there....
Not quite as good as DARK but the production and consideration behind it is absolutely brilliant. Watch the making of 1899. You'll be blown away with the approaches with perfection in mind.
It was literally the fact that Jonas the traveler was in this and it’s the same creators of Dark that I had to give this show a try and it absolutely did not disappoint.
Spoilers!! There are a couple things that had be thinking (to be honest a lot more than a couple 😂). The clear affection between the captain and the main for one. They both had the same book in their rooms. They had clear chemistry. Her husband keeps saying I’ll always be with you so I’m pretty certain he means it in a, I’ll always be with you in your memories’ kind of way. So doesn’t that mean that both her husband and Elliot are dead and only live in the program? The fact that the husband literally always appears to fix and issue can only mean that he’s some sort of back door program that she created to fix the simulation or trigger to wake up if something went wrong with the simulation. If all the people on the ship are in pods how is Ciaran communicating with the main? Some else had a theory that he was an AI. He could be the ship and he could be infancy corrupted this the husband program warned the main and woke her up. I can’t be sure who all isn’t real in the simulation because we can only know that the people in the pod with the main are in fact real. But the others could also be in the other pods. The better question is where are they all headed? What happened to earth? Are they even travelling from earth? Why chose the year 1899? Is that the digital code for the program? It has to mean something. The memories in the tunnels had to be some sort of fail safes. Ok I feel somewhat better now 😊
@@Yai94 let’s hope he’s alive somehow because I sure like the actor that’s playing him. I’m holding out hope that Elliot’s body is in stasis and they find an accidental cure for the poor boy. There’s so much room for devious plot twists 😍
Great show but one thing I just don't get. They all want Maura to go out of her simulation, with either bad or good intentions. And they all know so much about what should happen for her to go out of the simulation. So why are they so quit and not telling her stuff, only to tell the stuff when it's "to late?" (Especially Daniel)
its just s1, liek dark we had no clue about reality until last season or ending. in this show it might be just another simulation of spaceship, also many theories are about lobotomy, intro of show shows maura face and ship going to that place where they did lobotomy (throw nose to brain), so it all might be just her brain trying to remember pre lobotomy things in some mental institution
Theory : The brother is the only one who still has all memories because something happened on their space ship that they dont have enough fuel or food so they had to go to simulation but it doesnt last long so to last long the brother is making it a big loop to secure from all passengers waking up
I'm with a commenter above that the purpose of the simulation is to teach people to get along, even in stressful situations. Because they'll need it when they colonize a new planet.
Ah this ending was awesome and I was way off track with my predictions. Well done! I'd also like to say that because of Netflix and their greed, we'll never get season 2 unless someone else picks it up. For Netflix, it's a tax write off. They said something like 'It wasn't received the way we wanted it to be' so it got cancelled. Looks like my decision on which streaming service to sign up for just got easier. Funny how fast that ship is sinking! lol, pun intended. Anyways, hope everyone enjoyed this as much as I did! *edit* That triangle with the line through it might also mean "As above, so below" the line makes a little triangle at the bottom
My guess… Season 1 - set in 1899 Season 2 - I think will be set in 2099 Season 3 - I think will be 1999 which will be the real/present time; when Maura is in the mental institution, this looks like it could be 1999
I thought I had I had it figured out, only to be so wrong. I loved it! Recommend watching the original audio version with subtitles. It’s so much better than the dubbed version. I would give a solid 10!
I really think the first mate is Ciaran. With Maura’s memories having been erased, we have no reason to think she would remember her brothers face. Ciaran is never shown on screen and normally when you have a major character without a name it’s so that it can be revealed later. Exactly the same as they did with ‘the traveler’ in Dark.
But the first mate couldn't be it. He too wanted to leave the simulation. However, one thing I didn't understand is that if everyone wanted to leave the simulation why was her father not working with them as its clear the husband knows the simulation has been taken over. Why did they fight each other if all they wanted was to get out? Why didn't the husband tell his father-in-law that she wasn't in control? That confused me a lot.
I've just finished the season, and I liked it overall, but the 1st part of it, with the mysteries, and thrilling atmosphere was way more exciting then the 2nd part when tablets, and devices appeared. The moment which killed the vibe was the one when we found out that someone is watching them. It's much better than anything coming out lately on netflix, I just wanted this to be stay within 2 ships, and mystery.
This was my only concern with it, as soon as Maura talks about brains i immediately thought this better be not those where everything is not real and they're actually in the lab and i was right lol but it's still a great show personally, this reality simulation concept has been done many times but this was made from the same people who made "DARK" so im actually very excited and interested about this
@@i.washere Where this show succeeded and others fail is that usually a simulation is a cop out from nowhere, here however it was CONSTANTLY foreshadowed in numerous ways from symbolism, psychology, numerology, even the danged soundtrack, and I think that's amazing.
I thought same thing, but in later episode we see the "crew member" (who I think looks like Connor McGregor) use his device to lay out some people, changing my view that he was behind the mass killings.
An interesting Tid bit hidden in episode 7 is at 30:54 before the end of the episode. In the Maura Flash back in Daniels's Dream space. There is a still frame of the Crab Nebula. It's an Image from the Hubble telescope. There are probably multiple images hidden in the show
great series, highly recommended. With these types type of shows its alway "is the ship real" , "is the spaceship real" etc. "is anything real?". Isn't the whole plot "the brother is evil" potentially part of the sim? They could have said "sim during space travel got bugged" and ended it with series one.
What if the kid is a creation of the simulated events of the timeline. He is not real but is Exist as part of the human brain and the AI husband. He can not fully exist in either realm but both sides can not let go of him.
I am a big fan of DARK and anticipated this show's premiere. I love the show too. However, I have a few questions which bug me: First, why do most characers ask really dumb questions? Secondly, given the multilingual background of the different characters, how do theyunderstand each other very well? Shouldn't the ship be a Tower of Babel?
Yeah, the language bothered me. Like Krester and Angel, Ling Yi and Olek, Ramiro and Krester's dad, they all speak in their native languages and yet they somehow understand each other. They also don't use signs to indicate what the other is trying to say, which is what most people do. But I guess, since it is a simulation, and is not real, we can suspend disbelief.
I think the show portrays that the human brain can understand emotions and feelings even without language. It’s like understanding someone by gestures or body movements.
The biggest thing to tip me off that this wasn't real was the fact that when any character is asleep, their eyes are all open. The only time someone opens their eyes from sleeping is moura in the last scene

Now that I can look back , the fact that Maura is the creator is hinted many times , as each character in the simulation wakes up with her voice..
True.
Except for the very first time and then it is the voice of her father telling her to wake up.
I believe Maura's voice is also used in the final countdown of the simulation termination.
But that's not what we learn at the end right? She isn't actually the creator
This is the first clue i got that perhaps they were in a dream world or something.
yeah thats what i thought too, great observation mate
Loved that scene.
Agreed, I thought the same. Also, Ling Yi’s arm glitches during that scene which is another sign that it isn’t real
Nice catch
Lucien's relationship with Ling Yi doesn't seem to be romantic or sexual, though.
Which I think like dark sets it up for 3 seasons, meaning 3 views of reality, 3 layers of simulations, before then finally at the end of the 3rd season we finally open the triangle to maybe see the real reality. 😮
Wow dude! Never caught it....Nice!
Nice call.
1899 is everything that Matrix 4 was supposed to be
Really they pulled simulation in a tv series in a way nobody pulled yet.I searched many simulation related tv series instead got dumpster shows but when I started watching 1899 I don't know it was full of fake reality which I wanted to see in tv.
Matrix 4 wasn't terrible but just refried beans. This show created a great mystery box. Loved the ending. Had no idea where this was going but high production quality and flawless CGI. Loved the 1900 century setting and steamships.
Everything westworld should have been
The series reminds me of the French film Oxygen.
Blehh

There are tons of hidden meanings and symbolisms in the show, this is the type of show you can watch twice and still catch things you didn’t notice the first time .
And a rare gem in this day and age.
Clemance also had triangle earrings from the beginning of series. Only those who had dreams and heard Maura's voice to wake up were alive in the end.

Yup the other ones are the NPCs
Not necessarily. If the real world is a spaceship with 1400 rescued passengers. All of them will be part of the simulation.
BTW. Nice to have spaceship passengers be on a real ship in the simulation.
Here’s my take:
-her brother isn’t alive; it’s an AI with his personality
-her real husband is the captain; she almost immediately had an emotional connection with him
-the memory of her with the dark haired guy is fake/altered and he himself may be a program that acts as a failsafe
-the simulation takes people back 200 years so that they’re in an environment totally foreign and unfamiliar, which makes them easier to control
-the simulation is a social experiment before they reach their destination; all the talk about the human brain and how people behave and why they do what they do, much like ants in a Petri dish
-the simulation is on a boat, because they are in a “boat” to their new home and could die if their responses to new situations is poor so this is to test their resolve
Wow
Honestly that a great theory but with all due respect I completely disagree
I just dont think he is the husband bu we will see.
oo i like this theory stella mariss
I like how it's a bug that opens doors....cause bugs opens backdoors in computer programs
Also they brings out quantum computer...which uses electro's unique property spin up or spin down as bits....so those Morse code looking up and down triangles could be electron spin up and spin down state
Great catches
@@heavyspoilers the computer looked similarly to the one in Devs.
And I actually believe her brother is a A.I running the space craft
omg, I didn't think about that! this totally makes sense! Great catch!
We need more Olek and Ying! Their chemistry is everything! The actors did such a great job ❤
🤞
Olek 😭💔
Another thing that I admired about this series, is how greatly the characters are link to each other.... the chemistry is just too strong!
When Maura wakes up in the final scene and begins looking at the fellow passengers still locked in the simulation, there is a passing glimpse of two empty passenger slots. I suspect one of the slots belonged to Daniel....But it's a theory. Looking forward to the future of the show.
could be her brother. daniel said he took over the simualtion
Thats her brother because everyone attached to the device supposed to appear in simulation.

This show took "life is a simulation" to a whole new level!
I still think the dad is behind this…. Remember in episode 2 when Maura tells the boy “I thought I was lost when I was younger, our father drove me and my brother into a forest and left us there. We thought we was lost - but he was watching us the whole time to see how we’d react”
No, everything was in her head. She cracked her own matrix. The only thing is she created a hell for herself.
I thought she said it was just her and her dad and he left her alone
Yess
most underrated comment easily! great catch
But if the emotions is the problem, then why the love of daniel to maura make a way to wake her.
@@leinadscoverph because he knew the stimulations won't fix the problem

Did anyone else realize that season one of dark ended with the girl telling Jonas “welcome to the future” and in 1899 it’s her brother greeting her with “welcome to reality”
Nice little Easter egg
How about the first room number they go to being the same as the ghost ship from X-files.
Plot twist: the ending everybody wakes up from their pods with new memories, thinking they have just awoken from hypersleep. The Prometheus space ship is the new setting for the simulation.

The difference between this writing and the crap we get from Hollywood these days, couldn't be more apparent.
That's what i have been saying. This is what Lost and From are supposed to be like.
So I believe the book holds more clues
I am thinking the spaceship is also a simulation.

WOAH!
Hmm biological viruses don't exist in my simulation
Cool story the things is there are no fucking respect point on the internet tell your mom your a screenwriter she'll care just as much as us
Hint: we just tell you honestly to shut the fuck up cause we dont care
Great comment
Omg thanks!
one thing that i notice about this series is that it is very similar to video games like Until Dawn, and the Dark Anthology games.
Lmaoooo love this!!!!! Just hoping they get the 2 more seasons they want!!!

A good show would actually answer the questions it poses. Oh wait, they’re all in a simulation nvm. THATS never been done before :0
@@jamiesmith5728 boy do I have news for you…😢
@@AlluckyTV the show and plot was great, what explanation did you expect?
Loved the show. I initally thought the green-dress pimp woman was behind something when she was talking at the table in E1 and suddenly everyone else in the room took a drink simultaneously, but then nothing else seemed to come of that. It was also a little disappointing that the black stuff didn't seem to do anything more than turn her arm black. Maybe these two things were just red herrings. They didn't detract from the overall show though. It was brilliant and I can't wait for more.
i think the part where everyone takes a sip simultaneously was a foreshadowing that this is actually all a simulation

I don't know guy, this is just off the top of my head, and I definitely didn't have all these loose insignificant ends after Dark season 1.

A lot of the door numbers have 101 on them. I think this could be a reference to 1984 and room 101. Which was used to basically reprogram people.
Nice
Yes and 101 also is an alchemy reference as is the triangular symbol for the element of fire featured heavily in the show.
@@theresacassar3595 that’s actually the symbol for earth. Which makes sense because if they’re traveling to another planet, the symbol actually means earth as in the planet. Not the element. It’s a fun way of using it.

You right, Sebastian is the darkest character, he used the same device as Daniel and changed the simulation codes in ship
Damn, yeah that’d be an awesome twist! even though they say his name is Sebastian it could just be a fake name he gave him self so that nobody would know who he is. also remember even Maura gave her herself a different last name and her brother didn’t call her by her real name either. So I feel like it could still work.
plot twist: ciaran is daniel and he has an incest fetish.
But why doesn’t Daniel knows it’s him?
Daniel is one of the passengers. He has his own memory, like every one else. Only he is a few steps ahead.
So he will have a manipulated memory as well.

They won’t. They sought the Dark creators themselves because that series also effin mindblowing like 1899. I had to YT a lot of videos to understand wth is going on😂. At least we have the Mike Flanagan mini series and these new shows like 1899 to dig in to.
It has actually been quite successful. Number one on Netflix in 58 countries. This is obviously on the back of Dark's success.
I've thought it was a nice touch to have the captain's dead daughter singing that special song again and again. Like a message. It has kind of a meaning for germans especially the ones fighting against oppressive regimes. I think someone is trying to tell the captain something. He probably already knows what's going on on a subconscious level.
Yep, I noticed that this was a very deliberate song choices. She could have sung a hundred other songs and it would have been more likely for a girl her age.

The production quality is excellent with creepy atmospheric visuals and sound and the 1900 steam ships are beautifully rendered. It's a slow burn mystery box that keeps you guessing.
True, why traumatic? Also what's their real story? If there is one.
why did his father go through episode 8 just to get the key? he could just get it since ep1?
A lot of those passengers were not meant to have tickets. Survivors' guilt? I couldn't help but wonder if the program was therapy gone wrong - or an intentional punishment.

I feel like the crew member with no name is Maura's brother, Ciaran. We know he is working for the father, and notably, he was the only worker allowed inside the simulation on the ship. Additionally the obvious, he is the only other person in the series with red hair like Mauras.

Pretty sure elliot is dead. Hence there is a grave and happens so when they go down into the space it is a childs room and its the first simulation theyve created.

It's MF awesome.
I don't think the son is real. I think he is a child born in the simulation which is why she needed to loop that particular instance to save him. It also explains why the husband doesn't care about the boy.
I thought about this, I also don't think the Ciaran is real. I think the spaceship is also a simulation.
If the son isn't real then why she created the simulation?
As far as Maura's room number 1011. According to Google: "In numerology, the number 1011 is a special number and a message of change. This number signifies the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. It encourages you to let go of the past and embrace the new opportunities that are coming your way."
Don't know if this is the case for the show but it seems to fit!
I loved this show so much, not gonna lie my favorite scene was that conversation between Daniel and Maura and what makes reality

I was blown away. I felt it coming but still blown away.

just watched it. it’s really not 😂
It is because Ship = space ship (1899= 2099)
I thought so too. Was thinking this is like some Titanic story that ran into the Bermuda triangle.
Great video, Paul! Thanks for this! Also for Theory Time, the first thing that came to mind is that this is just another simulation layer. Like the dream layers in inception. Also Daniel might be in one of the other SIMs, like how he tethers into the Kerberos from the Prometheus ship. Cheers!
I find it very likely that the spaceship is also a simulation. This would work with the Plato's Cave theme of the Show.
It's even more amazing behind the scenes how much effort they put into every detail! Mesmerizing!!
Why were Maura's father and husband fighting each other if they all wanted the same thing: To wake her up?
Why would nobody tell Maura anything until the end, if what triggered the ending was just telling her everything anyway?
Without answers to this, it seems like the same conclusion could have been reached in just a couple of episodes, and every other conflict was just padding.
yep. they didnt tie things as well as they did with dark. went full jj abrahams with setting up lot of mystery boxes with not proper payoff.
I thought that if Maura unlocked the pyramid in the father and crewmember's presence, then they would also "wake up."
@@Ganymedescupwe saw at the end that after she unlocked the pyramid she woke up alone meaning her dad was lying…he was planning on leaving by himself.
I think because of the experiment. To overall study everyone's else behavior and emotions. They allowed all of that to happen before Maura's identity was revealed.
Could the simulation be some kind of safety feature to prevent brain damage while in cryogenic sleep for space travel?
That was my impression
given we watched 8 hours of basically now-irrelevant "plot", who even knows now... the ending basically invalidated 90% of the season.
knowing tv series Dark plot twists, i would not be surprised if spaceship is yet another simulation
this maybe the best correct answer somewhat same to the passenger movie of Jennifer lawrence. Prometheus is the actual name of the space mission.
Or did they pull an Inception and this is only the second layer?

First time viewer that stumbled upon this video a few days back while seeking a trailer to introduce this amazing series to good friend. At the time, I still had episodes 7&8 to view so I didn't need anything spoiled for this psychological thriller!
Great video and loved hearing your thoughts about the complexities found within just about every nook & cranny.
I returned to this video in hopes to find explanation of the how/why their simulation is in 1899?
I came away from the series that "something" horrific happened to Earth and the Prometheus is humanity's best effort to prolong our existence/prevent from going extinct.
I believe the mind is truly puzzling and why I found joy in this exploration into 'the unknown' (I think it was first episode when captain makes comments about them floating above deepest part of Atlantic and how it's the last frontier on Earth to be explored)
This is what makes me question why you think these occupants are being tortured? True... there is much we have yet to uncover as far as Maura's brother goes, but like we're told in the beginning (and as you mentioned) they're running from "something" and until we face our fear(s) it'll always be a form of torture.
Thanks for great break down and I'm sure we're all looking forward to a 2nd season for 1899!!
At 21:58 , you can see that Maura has the same triangle mark on her neck as her son in the simulation
The woman with the green dress has the triangle pattern on the sleeve of her dress and the woman married to the guy who had the seizures, hair barrette is the design of the triangle as well… They show it really quick, but I caught it…

After watching this show, I’m pissed that it got cancelled. Now I’ll never get to figure out what the show is actually about.

For what purpose did her husband kill the young girl on the boat? I thought he was somehow evil at the beginning.
Damn thats true...
Yesss nothing came of it
It started a movement to overthrow Eyk, in which affected where the boat was going

Ok I feel somewhat better now 😊
Yeah I also got the feeling that the husband is also dead? And just lives in her memories 🥲

I’m pretty sure “Crewmember”s actual name is Connor McGregor
Hahaha every time he was on I though that. A poor man’s Conor mcgregor
This show is just perfection, I hope we get season 2.
then you're now ready for DARK series
Theory :
The brother is the only one who still has all memories because something happened on their space ship that they dont have enough fuel or food so they had to go to simulation but it doesnt last long so to last long the brother is making it a big loop to secure from all passengers waking up
Nice, love that
Doubt it. To travel that long in space, it would make sense to be in a simulation anyway.

@@prof5282 I think maybe if he used the key he would wake up first
@@conoruddin654 Oh smart, sorry dumb comment on my part.
You need to watch Dark.
@@jefferrrson1x sure i have seen it. 2x 😃😄 love it. One of my fav.
@@nyitrai.istvan92 i've seen it twice too. my favorite show of all time! i'll need to watch it again !
Loved the show. but why the heck does Daniel go on a kill streak after episode 2?
THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO KNOW TOO!!!
I thought same thing, but in later episode we see the "crew member" (who I think looks like Connor McGregor) use his device to lay out some people, changing my view that he was behind the mass killings.
Did the First Mate ever get a name?? I was thinking that he would be revealed to be Maura's brother but I guess not.
the french woman had a hair clip with the same symbol too in one of the last 3 episodes
An interesting Tid bit hidden in episode 7 is at 30:54 before the end of the episode. In the Maura Flash back in Daniels's Dream space. There is a still frame of the Crab Nebula. It's an Image from the Hubble telescope. There are probably multiple images hidden in the show
Thanks for your thoughts. I was definitely left with a lot of questions.
great series, highly recommended. With these types type of shows its alway "is the ship real" , "is the spaceship real" etc. "is anything real?". Isn't the whole plot "the brother is evil" potentially part of the sim? They could have said "sim during space travel got bugged" and ended it with series one.
You should probably reconsider your sponsorship with Established Titles.
What if the kid is a creation of the simulated events of the timeline. He is not real but is Exist as part of the human brain and the AI husband. He can not fully exist in either realm but both sides can not let go of him.
Nice one!
I think so cause she said it 3 to 4 times that she can't be a mother
At around 18:58 to answer your question the name of that crew member is Sebastian played by the actor Tino Mewes (according to IMDB)
Great review! I always head to your channel after I finish a series, specially ones I don't fully grasp.
