That little bit about how this series is based on a tabletop game the authors were in and that Shed was killed off because the person playing him decided to quit is amazing.
I remember when The Expanse TV show first got canceled from SyFy, us the fans were desperate to try everything to get it exposed yet dared not to dream it being covered by Alt Shift X. Now it has happened it almost feels surreal. This makes me just as happy as Amazon saving the show.

Wasn't Miller fired for trying too hard though? As far as I remember, the reason he is assigned the Julie Mao case is precisely because his boss considers him an unreliable, worn out drunk. He wasn't supposed to poke around too much, but does it anyway because searching for Julie fills him with purpose.

@@FlosBlog What's wrong with the body descriptions in the books? Have finished them recently, nothing really caught my attention regarding that, so can you elaborate? As for Julie Mao... well, they made the protomolecule sexier in the series than the book, and by that, I dont mean the female character shown on screen. The reasons for that seem straight forward to me: the blue glowing stuff looks nicer than open torsos with 5 legs attached to it, so it's a visual pull (different media, different rules) and also: you just cant show certain things and hope to keep a general audience. So, books 7, 8 and 9 have not been adapted to TV which is an absolute crime as they are by far the best in the series and they complete the story. The thing i never understood was why not turn off the engines for the middle third of the flight? Takes 6% longer to arrive but you save 33% on your fuel. Like I did the math. You can save 1/3rd fuel and only take 6% longer to arrive.
Sure, but the fusion drive uses quite inexpensive fuel pellets - what does the pushing is reaction mass, I believe water in universe. Water is also somewhat inexpensive. If you are broke, then yes, going on the float could be a cost saving strategy, but it depends on what resources you have, or how much the job you are on prioritizes a more timely arrival. In the first part the captain of the Cant mentions that answering the distress call would cost them their on time bonus and their scheduled berth at Ceres. It's also just kind of nice to have some "gravity" for the entire duration of the flight, and helps prevent bone density loss. Granted, in universe these journeys are relatively short, just a few weeks. But then again, if the goal is to save fuel, just drop to a less aggressive acceleration and keep some "gravity".

You left out what I think is the best quote Miller gave in the entire series; about why he shot Dresden. It highlights the core of his character like no other quote does in the books--although "...it keeps the rain off my head" from the show--is almost as good. "He was talking us into it, all that about getting the stars and protecting ourselves from whatever shot that thing at earth? I was starting to think maybe he *should* get away with it. Altshiftx - Do you think that you will do the rest of the books in the series? I would love to hear your take. I have always enjoyed your analysis.
I stumbled across the TV series and googled it all up as quickly as possible...but this video is the reason why I started reading the books!
I am not able to stream the episodes.....so I am just watching Alt Shift X..... Great work guys, really enjoy your videos.
This was a great video. Watching this after finishing the book made the plot much clearer in my head. I would love it if the other books also got an explanation video :D
I hope you keep doing videos on this book series. It needs to be explained because some thing went over my head that your video answered for me.
Was so excited to see this. Can’t wait for the videos on subsequent books.
More of these book breakdowns!!! Reading book 3 now finishes 3 of the novellas as well. Would love some more of this though.
Such a great video, can't wait to see The Expanse book 2 explained
You left out what I think is the best quote Miller gave in the entire series; about why he shot Dresden. It highlights the core of his character like no other quote does in the books--although "...it keeps the rain off my head" from the show--is almost as good.
"He was talking us into it, all that about getting the stars and protecting ourselves from whatever shot that thing at earth? I was starting to think maybe he *should* get away with it. Maybe things were just too big for right and wrong. I'm not saying he convinced me. But he made me think maybe, you know? Just maybe." p438
I’m very captivated by this universe. Thanks AltShiftX!
The show and book are criminally underrated and not well known. Glad it's getting more attention now! It's one of the best Sci Fi series out there.
Beautifully done. Information dense and entertaining AF
I've asked so many times for this and waited long enough :) Thank you finally, and now hopefully more people will be introduced to the awesome books and TV show. It should be noted that the show takes some different routes but it's just as good and the writers have said the show is the evolution of the books, that needed changes to fit a TV show formate.
I see these videos getting less views than your normal but i appreciate it cause the expanse is so underrated
Damn, the 12th viewer!
Noice, Alt Shift X, I really like your videos and your incredibly dry humor ;)
Please, please continue this serie. It's amazing!
Well impressed of your reversal of Miller's gun lowering to recreate his execution of Dresden - very well done indeed!
Someone's paying attention 😉
i’d love to see a continuation of this!
Great video. I thank you sincerely.
This is great. I hope it brings more people to this amazing universe.
Thanks for making these videos!
P.S: That ad segue at theend was brilliantly hilarious. ;)
One of the smoothest transitions to an ad ever
You guys always make the best content.
I've binged the TV series and never even touched the books, but gotta say, Miller is the best character in series. He's immensely enjoyable, and especialy as Protomolecule Ghost, he's awesome.
