I'm just a perfectionist and have set high goals for myself, but I am learning that creativity can be messy and that imperfection is acceptable and part of the learning process.
Wow, I've been so intimidated to start because I'm not artistic and I was afraid to ruin my bible, but seeing you using so many different things to mark your pages is freeing. Now I can't wait to get started. Thanks so much.
Hi Sheereen! Yes, I do believe anything and everything goes!! Just have fun. Experiment. You'll make what you think are mistakes, but that's ok too! It's all part of the process. :-)
Beautiful! A trick I learned to prevent bleed through is to prep my page with two layers of clear matt medium (drying between each layer). You don't need a lot on your page and it prevents bleed through from everything including watercolors and distress inks!
It would precent bleed through but mod podge is an adhesive so you'd have to be very careful with your pages so they don't stick to each other. Also, it would have to be completely dry or it will ruin your markers, pens, etc. Different mod podge also have different finishes so you have to find one that is transparent and doesn't have a finish when dry.
Love her description of BIBLE journaling. Praise God for the clarity and true meaning of doing this. Thank you so much. No one should be discouraged. Instead encouraged to read and study the Precious WORD of GOD.
I am so glad that you pointed out that the main reason to bible journal is to spend time in the word and it further shows your understanding of what you have learned while reading your bible because you are now illustrating your understanding. 😍
Just wanted to thank you. This video spoke so much life into me. Not that long ago I re-released my blog, because I had started doing this and the enemy tried to make me fearful. I stopped for a while. But now I am shutting that door and start to be creative again❤️ thank you.
I love this message. I know some do a ton of stuff, but, then it seems to be more about the artwork, instead of the Word itself. Great message about keeping the focus on your time with God.
Thank you for your words in this video! I just started today and was feeling pressured as I did my first page and was thinking “I need to enjoy and spend this time with the Lord & have joy while doing it”....thank you for sharing and the encouragement.
Yay! I've just started my journalling journey this year and it has enriched my time with God. I'm not an artist and was afraid to start with, but once I made my first 'mistake' and realised that it was my faith and my Bible and just between me and God I relaxed into it and it has become such a blessing. I'd encourage everyone to have a go. Love your kids pages too! TFS. X
Love this! Thank you for sharing your journaling journey with us. My son has done several page's in my bible journal. He loves the creativity. Thanks again Natalie!
Kathy McConnell The Bible is not an art project. Coloring on its pages does not bring you closer to Jesus. Painting on its pages does not spark an encounter with Him. Reading His word, meditating on it, and obeying it is what illuminates the mind of God to us. Satan is an incremental foe.
Just want to say that your so called "uggly" page was inspiring for me. The bold words across the page jumped out at me more than a prettied up page. Thanks for sharing it for me to see.
Oh yeah.... there are actually so many options! It doesn't just have to be in your bible! And of course, it's only limited by your imagination or where your creative inspiration leads you!
Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us...I really want to do Bible Journaling, but have not done so in a while. I appreciate you taking a moment and showing us all how easy and rewarding it is for you! Blessings.
What a beautiful bible !!! I love your bible so much I can’t wait to get started on mine . I got the nlt inspire bible and that bible has art applied to it already and it also has blank pages so I can’t wait to get creative . It so beautiful to see how people illustrate their faith in different ways . Thank you for sharing this video have a great day and god bless you ❤️
Thank you so much for this video...I just heard about Bible Journaling a week ago and I'm looking forward to starting myself. I must admit that I was feeling a little insecure about my artistic ability, but after watching this video I know I'll do just fine. It's all about spending time in the word...God bless you...
I liked what you said about journaling as a means of getting more into the Word. I was concerned about coloring and writing in my journaling Bible. But now I see it can be used as another way to study and remember the Word.
I'll be honest - I used to rush to get through the reading I 'needed' to do each day. But now it's become a pleasure to spend more time in the Word, meditating on each scripture I'm journaling and soaking in it for so much longer. So for me it's become a useful tool.
*Hello Illustrated faith* I loved the 5:36 paint page ! lots of others too, but this one is ma favourite. Thank you for sharing with us, your great work. I just began , step by step! God Bless you. Best regards from a frenchie christian channel
I love your pages. Thanks for sharing them with us. I will love to see a flip though of the pages to take ideas. Am a beginner and your tips encourage me. Thank You!
I appreciate this. I just bought my very first illustrated faith devotional kit. Actually I bought 2. And I am so intimidated that the box is sitting in the floor and I just seem to stare at it. lol. true story. I feel defeated before I even start. This is a great encouragement to me. Thank you for this video.
Hi Natalie, you have been such an inspiration to me as a beginner of illustrating my faith journey. One question I have is about one of my favourite pages you've done. At 6:55 in your video above you show a 'Be BOLD' page with heaps of dots in a rainbow of colours...how did you achieve this and with what medium please?? do you have a video link to show this one :-) xx
Hi Pauline! Unfortunately I don't have a process video for this page. But it was really quite easy to do. I used an acrylic stamp (in fact, I placed this circle stamp upside down on my acrylic block so that I was applying the ink to the back of it - that's how I achieved the solid circle) and some dye based inks. I have the inks in about 12 different colours or so, but to achieve the in-between colours I simply didn't clean off the stamp after using it with one colour, and went straight onto using a new colour. Hope that helps!

Tks for sharing! By the way, I don't think your worst page looks bad! I love it in fact!
Suz any bible will work but Journaling bibles have larger margins on the sides for Journaling and note taking and the pages are thicker than a traditional bible so you can paint and use pens but you could just use stickers or colored pencils :)
Hi ! Could you please tell me where you purchased the daily devotionals and book you placed them in? I looked in the linkd you provided, but couldn't find them. Thanks!!
Di would like to know what single column version are you using? I like it because the print doesn't go into the center fold like mine does. Also it looks like the columns have very little lines, I'd any in the margin, where as mine has narrow dark lines in the margin and I don't like the dArk lines
Hiya Carmen! You can find the single column journaling bible in our shop along with other bible journaling supplies here :) bit.ly/biblejournalingSHOP and if you catch this before the end of the month, use 25FORYOU to get 25% off plus free shipping!
thank you very much for the inspiration. If you used clear gesso wouldn't that prevent the bleeding through your paper? glad you shared pages that you didn't love even if to my eyes they looked great :)
Yes, that's certainly a technique I know many people have used with great success. I think I'm too impatient for another process to get through and wait to dry... I just want to dive in and start creating straight away! LOL!
I don't have a big bible to do this, stuff with wish I did but I wouldn't go to, full thing tho to do paint or big huge stickers tho . I don't think I could have the guts to paint in my bible. but small medium stickers or sticky paper I would use in my bible for notes. if my bible would be big enough
Thank you so very much for this video and your candor. It helps sooo much to see the first pages of an artist when we see where they are now. I'm excited to stop just watching the loveliness pass me by and make some version of my own. :D Which type of lovely dori are you using please? Rich blessings! New subbie to your channel. :D ~ Suzanne
Oh you simply must just dive in and start creating for yourself! It's the best feeling ever to let your faith and your craft come together in this glorious expression! As for the dori.... this is a ZinniDori Unicorn from Simple Heart. Here's a link: simpleheart.bigcartel.com/product/zinnydori-unicorn-regular-size-free-ship
Where is your journaling bible from? I just stumbled across #illustratedfaith and #biblejournaling, one of my goals for the start of the new year is to get more into the word of God and focus more on my faith and less on the struggles of every day life that seem to weigh the most on my heart. I love all your journals and devotionals!
Dianne Grant if you look up "Holy Bible English Standard Version Single Column Journaling Bible, Trutone, Chestnut, Leaves Design" on amazon it pops up :)
I Took a bible journaling class at family christian bookstore in july. They have or their web has the praise book, brown one and tons more or just go to illustratedfaith.com. I have spent a ton!
I could not find the devotional books on the Illustrated Faith website...could you give a specific link or tell me what tab or list to look in? Thanks!
Hi! Do you mean the blue dori? The faux-leather cover thing for my devotional booklets? I got mine from a shop called Simple Heart, it's a Zinnidori Unicorn in Regular Size. Here's a link to the shop if you like: simpleheart.bigcartel.com/category/planners-zinnydori-travelers-notebook
This is a ZinniDori Unicorn in Regular Size. The colour I've got is Garden Green but there are lots of different colours to choose from. It's from Simple Heart, here's a link if you'd like to check it out: simpleheart.bigcartel.com/category/planners-zinnydori-travelers-notebook
I'm really happy how you came at this. I've looked at a few of these Bible-journaling videos before I saw yours and became disappointed...it almost became icky... like, how people were turning their Bibles into "stuff", spending money on art supplies or tabs, money that could have been used on better things (Jesus came simply as a baby in a manger, and it's okay for your Bible to be simple because it speaks for itself). I felt like the videos reminded me of other superficial videos, like "What's in my purse" or "My Makeup Collection". I knew that my heart was to "play" with G0d, to creatively express my girlish love, to be a gift-giver to Jesus, and exercise my creative, artistic nature toward Daddy-God. I've always made notes in my Bible and drawings, collages, etc, but I wanted something special. Because my relationship with G-d and my time in the word is so warm, cozy and affectionate...it's such an affectionate time alone with Daddy-God...I sought for some creative inspiration. I'm so glad I found your channel. It's so true to my vibes, Susta...like, "illustrating my faith". I dig that. Holla. And it's about BEING in the word, not just doodling all over important script ('cause let's be honest, wars have been started over the interpretation of one word...the words on the page are important). But, gotta give it to you, Sis, you were just what I needed. Your Bible will be great to pass on as you pass on, or just inspire other people to get their hands dirty. Thank you for making this about what it should be : Having fun, not being perfect or overly finicky, being with God, releasing the creativity some of us JUST HAVE to express, and illustrating your/our faith ! Much Love, your sister in Christ~Audra
Hi I'm a believer in God and when you was flicking through your pages I saw the word Jehovah may I ask you what that name means to you? Where as I'm one of Jehovah's witnesses and I love to read the Bible and wanting to start Bible journaling. 😄
Thank you for the encouragement. I have only done two entries in my new bible. I am trying to remember the journaling process and decorating is for my benefit as I spend more time in the word. It's not meant to be flaunted in front of others. I believe the bible speaks on not being proud. Can you please post a video on exactly how you sew in your bible? I have a page I'm dying to do that in but I can't, for the life of me, figure out how you go around tags and such without ripping a page. Thanks!
I've only done one entry and am a little unsure as to go about it.. I get an inspirational text every morning through text from a friend and I want to use that as my entries into learning the word. How do you come about your entries?
Question what is the point of doing this? How does this help you in learning about the lord and spending time with him? Now please don’t take this as negative I just wanna understand the perspective?? Any thoughts or responses from anyone??? God bless you guys!!
George Gutierrez well what I do is I read my bible and then I color my favorite verses and I decorate the pages. I dont cover text at all like some people do. When you do bible journaling you read the bible and when you decorate the pages youre spending time with the bible. Hoped this help.
I personally naturally LOVE creativity and seeing/doing things like these because it’s simply an interest of many :) in my opinion, it’s more about getting “close” with your bible and spending time in it more than just reading or getting help through it (although it may help some memorize better because of visual help). It tends to motivate me more in down times and is just a fun thing! Some people enjoy the simplicity and pureness of the natural bible, but having a journaling bible as well is a lovely thing for people who tend to like more interaction :) there are also different types of journaling bible people and it seems that this video shows all types of entries! There are some that like the whole page painting ideas or pasting things, but I personally like just the margin art and simpler things. Overall, I think it’s more of an interaction and liking of creativity thing :) hope this helps!
I have just started. I used small stencils of letters. I wanted to write for Genesis ch 1: " God said, It became, it is good." What I wrote in the Bible was "God said; it BEAME; it is good." Oh well.
OK, But we mean we cannot even come up with how to arrange or pick out color, layouts , etc. even without copying off someone :(( You came up with all that Thats artistic in its own right
How can you read God's Word when it's covered up with paint and stickers???? I can't imagine how this would help anyone to memorize or meditate on the Word when they're so focused on their own creativity and designs they can make. I'm all for a journal and art and all of that...but plastering it over top of God's Word seems wrong to me...
Megan Whittington I completely agree with you. I guess I am too traditional, but I would never feel comfortable taking a Bible like this to church. I love journaling, but on journal notebooks, not on the Bible. My Bible is a sacred book! I don't need to express my creativity there or put stickers all over the place to “motivate” me to spend time with me. The Word is enough for me. But each person can do as they feel comfortable. I do have my Bible study journal, but that is a separate notebook.
Everyone react differently in the word of God but some like me would feel better seeing the verses that touched our lives in colours and marks to notefy the specific msg.
Megan Whittington many people tend to have a journal and normal bible for two different things, reading and creativity. We usually have the journaling bible to really interact and use creativity within the scripture and a regular bible to read :) there are also a few different types of journaling in them. I see where you are coming from with the covering but there are also ones that are much simpler and only in the journaling margin, it just depends :)
I really Love the idea on how to make the bible more fun to read to have. but what stubs is. God doesnt want us to add to his books. the bible says what it means and means what it says.
Adrian Soto True, except she is not adding to the book in the sense that the Word means. She is using her Bible Journaling to dig into the word and using her art to illustrate what God is revealing to her. Besides, if you are uncomfortable with the idea of actually journaling in your Bible, you could always use one of the other options she shared.
Illustrated Faith , yeah I'm realizing it was a bad judgment call. I only asked because I want ideas on how to make the youth more involved in their bibles. thanks for the great ideas and tips. love them 🙄
While I can understand this initial reaction, it has actually helped me study the word even more and spend even more time in communion with God. I will say, I use one bible for study/church/reading that has been with me for nearly a decade and is marked up from head to toe. My journaling bible, instead, is filled with artistic expressions of verses that have a major impact on my life or that I feel to be especially meaningful. Just another way to dive into the word! If my journaling bible were my only bible, there might be places where I would no longer be able to actually read the entire passage, but I find having two is the perfect balance for me :) God bless!
@ imsome007 "I've never heard of bible journaling. What is the purpose of this? It seems distracting from the Word." I didn't know it was a popular thing eiter. I keep searching for people journaling - you know, writing WORDS? Instead, I keep finding people drawing/painting in their Bibles and calling it journaling. It looks pretty, but it's not journaling. It's certainly not studying.
Yesica1993 It is studying. :) You have to read the word to gather Scriptures that you want to "journal." When I do it, I often have worship music playing, I spend time in prayer and I read a chapter or two. after I've read, I usually have a key verse, thought or idea that really sticks out to me and I feel I need to meditate more on. so I will draw a picture, write and entry, or paint while I roll the Scripture over and over and pray. we use techniques like these to teach children and we deem it effective. why not adults? Studying the word of God doesn't have to be in a template like, if you don't do it this way then it isn't effective or correct. I am an artistic person and my art touches everything that I do, the Lord made me that way. it would almost seem strange to me if I allowed art to be a part of everything except the one who gave it to me, the one who matters most. even before this all became a fad, I was doing this. it was on my spirit to do it, so I did and as a result I have hidden his word in my heart!
Natalie Prather Oh no, that not studying. It's covering holy scripture with drawings : just a mess. Since when do we need to make this to study our bibles ? Only the Holy Spirit can help us to study and understand the words that He has inspire to the writers. And journaling is all about writing, not about leisure time or hobbies. Think about it.

Clear Gesso is good for page prep as well

I love this message. I know some do a ton of stuff, but, then it seems to be more about the artwork, instead of the Word itself. Great message about keeping the focus on your time with God.
Thankyou Alexandra. I do believe that wholeheartedly!

Where is that blue devotional from? I wanna get one like that.
How to use the labels ? In the tab
THANK YOU FOR SHARING.
How to start a bible?
I pray to have a bible journal, but it is too expensive in my country
Where did you purchase your fauxdori?
PS: It looks AMAZING! Very beautiful. Inspired, indeed. ;)
Hi I'm a believer in God and when you was flicking through your pages I saw the word Jehovah may I ask you what that name means to you? Where as I'm one of Jehovah's witnesses and I love to read the Bible and wanting to start Bible journaling. 😄
this is good thanks for it .
For sure! I'll see what I can do about maybe sharing my process for sewing in my bible in my next video! Thanks for the question (and suggestion!)
xx
I just got mine in today
Your Super! Great information
Make this words in gold glittery paint translucent and be look great next to lively colours on next page

Thank you for your question and answer I was unsure of the question and answer too .
George Gutierrez Why don't you keep your stupid questions to yourself. She can study the Bible however she wants.
jensmom604 I think George Gutierrez was trying to understand and wasn’t being judgmental or negative. Questions are good!
Thank you
I actually really like the page that you don’t like 😍
Amen 🙏❤️
i have this exact same bible!! ahh!!
What bible is this? I love it!
Blindingly obvious to cover up the bleedthrough with more art.
I too love your worst page. Sometimes the word is suppose to stand out not the decorating.
I have just started. I used small stencils of letters. I wanted to write for Genesis ch 1: " God said, It became, it is good." What I wrote in the Bible was "God said; it BEAME; it is good." Oh well.
so coool
loved your video
Love it, never heard of it before :D. I might do this as well ^^.
#newsubbie ^^
OK, But we mean we cannot even come up with how to arrange or pick out color, layouts , etc. even without copying off someone :(( You came up with all that Thats artistic in its own right
Does your designs distract you from studying the word?
I believe most who journal this way have other Bibles to study in.
I saw the name JEHOVAH. I'm one of Jehovah's Witnesses from Philippines
I'm more of note taking and scape booking type of journaling
It's her technique and works for her. I bible journal also but not to her extreme. There is extreme bible journaling and Modest bible journaling

Besides, if you are uncomfortable with the idea of actually journaling in your Bible, you could always use one of the other options she shared.
thanks ☺
Hiya Adrian with bible journaling we aren't adding to His word and saying "this is now the word" we are simply reflecting on it in a personal manner
Illustrated Faith , yeah I'm realizing it was a bad judgment call. I only asked because I want ideas on how to make the youth more involved in their bibles. thanks for the great ideas and tips. love them 🙄
Totally understand! xo
I've never heard of bible journaling. What is the purpose of this? It seems distracting from the Word.

"I've never heard of bible journaling. What is the purpose of this? It seems distracting from the Word."
I didn't know it was a popular thing eiter.
^^YES YES YES!
