The machine! Nice to see old Hueys being upgraded for 21 century
my mom is a pilot on the huey venom she took the job because in Vietnam my grandfather was a pilot for the uh1
Henry Thomas good for your mom.bell helicopter is one the best.we love bell helicopters! Awesome sound and awesome face
Ur so lucky u have a mom like that😂
As awesome as it is to see this airframe still going strong, it just doesn't sound the same with a four-blade rotor.
Just thinking the same
My thoughts exactly. Still, it's doing pretty well for a 65-year-old design.
@@michaelramsey82 The UH-1H has little in common with a UH-1Y. The original Hueys are toys compared to these beasts. Much of the technology used today didn’t even exist in the 60’s, and it’s rare for an aircraft model to get heavier and more complex AND to have a substantial increase in performance. They may look like Hueys but they are definitely not a 65 y/o design.
does not look the same neither, might as well buy a bunch of helis from Airbus LOL.
god that helicopter is a beast, i wasnt aware of how powerful these are
The utility airframe has come a long way in the last fifty years!

HAHAH thats ME on the left side. Crew Chief style!
Ha, I build and work on those everyday at the Amarillo assembly and test center. Glad you enjoyed the ride!
@Rodrigo2838 Thanks! We use a Sony HDR-FX1000 with a shotgun mic attached.
I absolutely love the Bearingless Main Rotor and all of its different designs. Of the BMR's on the Bell 430 and AH-1Z/UH-1Y, the McDonnell Douglas 900, the unfortunately cancelled RAH66, and the Eurocopter EC135, I would have to say that the one on the EC135 is my favorite. I love how it uses a stiff enough flex beam design that it doesn't need droop stops, yet can still be flexible enough to perform all of the necessary bending. I also like that the flex beam/torque tube on the EC135 BMR isn't very long, doesn't take up much of the blade length on the inner end of the blade, and the torque tubes on it are well blended into the aerodynamic shape of the blade. One thing I've wondered about on the BMR of the UH-1Y/AH-1Z is whether the longer flex beam and torque tube that takes up some of the blade's inner portion, about two feet or so compared to the Bell 412 main rotor, hurts the lifting efficiency of the UH-1Y rotor, or if its efficiency could be improved upon by a shorter flex beam/torque tube? Does anyone know any sites that have good schematics of the UH-1Y/AH-1Z BMR?
hueys are the coolest aircraft for me.
@viperq No, there wasn't. We were told the FAA changed their rules, so there needs to be at least 500ft from the flight line to the performing aircraft. San Carlos is just too small an airport.
Pedals are extremely sensitive when light (cross country to air show no pods no weapons no ASE) in UH-1Y, There are no throttle manipulations in UH-1Y other than idle, full open, or closed (both training and actuality except in emergency), Although some people cracked throttles in UH-1N you don't do it in Y because of DECU governing range.
UH-1Y hovers left skid low due to power of tail rotor(port side pusher type), have to use left cyclic to counteract.
One thing I got to see during one of the flights I did was a formation flight of 4 Kiowa helicopters flying over an airport I was in a pattern in. That was fun to watch fly over. Obviously didn't get a picture because I was flying the helicopter I was in.
Very good flying, the Venoms Excellent USMC Dave Minnesota
@ManteganiPhotos thanks.
They have, the AH-1Z is a 21st century upgrade with everything you mentioned.
Does anyone know, are these Hueys much different in performance to the civilian Bell 412 apart from the obvious differences in design features?
Amazing video!!
Doin' Bangnam style you mean. That music video cracks me up everytime.
This is the airport that has "shadowland" happening in the day time.
What a beautiful aircraft.....
Looks rugged......
General Electric T700-GE-401C GE turbines are a great powerplant and extremely easy to maintain. AIR CAV
My god damn speakers were about to explode when that damn thing landed
Amazing video, what type of camera are u using?? the quality is top notch.
Is that Jarhead in 507 going to log both of those landings? Pedal control on short final was a definite "C". Tell the pilot in 506, if you roll the throttle off slightly below 6600 it will settle to the ground.
Every Huey I ever flew was "SUPER".
Ever wonder why the left rear skid contacts the ground first?
Excellente! Thank u for upload
Does a Marine get selected for crew chief MOS in USMC? What is the USMC crew-chief MOS for UH-1Y?
Excited is a science word.
Wow. Mama's got a new dress! Pretty sweet new lines for an 'old' bird LOL
Great Vid! Looks like a windy day to me,or why are these Hueys so uneasy when they´re landing?
If there are passengers moving around in the cabin it changes the C of G enough to require a control input to hold station over a fixed point.
Made it look "twitchy"
I would like to know the answer to this also.
I was a UH1 Crew Chief Army 1974 to 1979. Wow she has changed. The fuselage looks pretty much the same on the exterior I do see tail boom and fairing enhancements and not so many exterior antennas. But the power train, WTF? She was fun back then but I'll bet she's more fun now! Is she equipped with dual engines now? And I think I see an APU exhaust! And that rotor system. I want a ride!
Main rotor blades are out of track. About 2 to 4 inches.
These helicopters are awesome
What branch of the military are these in?
The second one looked like it was having a bit of trouble landing?
I heard there was no air show this year.
For such a small service, USMC has largest diversity of rotorcraft fleet. UH-1N, UH-1Y, AH-1W, AH-1Z, Ch-46's, CH-53E, V-22. Did I miss any? This is not a criticism, just an observation, relating to budget.
If you think the landing looked difficult, try actually landing one. It is very hard and takes good focus, hand-eye coordination, and actual knowledge of how to fly a helicopter.
Pop quiz. This doesn't pertain to this video but why do helicopters need rotor brakes ? Thanks.
+Dusty Fortier So the wind doesn't blow them around, and probably for emergencies I gather
1) So you don't have to wait forever for the blades to slow down before securing them. 2) So you're able to do rotorbrake starts during high winds (essentially leaving brake on while starting until a certain % tq is reached)
I was Army O-2 MOS13 Field Artillery. The AV bats SOP at Ft. Sill and S.Korea prohibited hanging out, except for safety as needed. Proscription was justified by several fatalities with autorots or settling with power that were entered at landing . If settling was too fast, non-flight crew suffered injuries. The unclassified reports described crew members being ejected out of the aircraft, and struck either by main or tail rotors. I take it NATOPS for UH-1Y is cool with this.
@steagle33 yeah, sure it enhances the bird but if im in combat and were getting over ran i REALLY whant to hear the beautiful whop whop as my grandpa and 3 of his brothers did in Nam. Atleast the Cobras still have the good ole sound
hey out of curiosity, how are you secured to the chopper when you have to get close to the doors?
A belt around their chest
@himmler251
It's not the engines it's because it has 4 blades instead of 2. And like apollo22001 says... I really am going to miss that whop whop.
@blaaquedawg It is more than just an engine upgrade. Don't talk shit on Bell Textron unless you work on the aircraft, which if I'm mistaken and you do (which i doubt since you think the new hueys and cobras are just upgraded engines). BTW... super, as in Super Cobra is the W model, which is the 2 bladed version that's been around for 20 years. These are the four bladed versions which are the venom and viper. There is no "super" in the name.
Great video, especially when I grew up as a Marine brat at Pendleton. Doesn't sound like the Huey's I remember and served with. What type of engine is it using?
It sounds different because it has a four-bladed rotor, rather than the two-bladed rotor of previous Hueys.
4:29 Guess they've been apart for a while judging by the long kiss.
ok, the UH-1D is a Bell 205, The AH-1G is a model 209, the UH-1N is model 212. The Bell 412 has been around since 1980, but the UH-1Y since 2006 or so. Is the UH-1Y given a model number? Or what?
A Chaps I think it’s the military version of the 412
Dakota Hoes I disagree. The UH-1Y has different engines, higher speed, and much different avionics. I think it’s if of its own class, as a military aircraft.
u wot m8 I’m sure tour right but I was saying that because it has the frame of a 412 just military version. Thanks for the feedback.
There is a video regarding the rebuild of old UH1D/H rebuilds into the Y spec, improved power, trans etc and 212 tail... worth watching...
why do the marines need this ? Couldnt they have just used the Sikorsky Seahawk? puzzles me... And the AH-1 Viper ! Couldnt they hav just ordered the Apache or something? Someone help me out here...?
@HitmanofHeaven That was so awesome!!! Glad you could check out my video!
I have tried the UH-1H and the Bell 412 and to me this seems like the baby that resulted in a relationship between those two lol
Marshall Smith™ o k I
Dang, the wash sounds like it could knock you down lol
This is what you get when the neighbors Cobra mates with your Huey!! LOL....You get a freakish Hybrid!! Beautiful aircraft!...Gotta love the USA's helicopter fleet!!
BTW the lead aircraft Crew Cheif was struggling with closing that cargo door. It probably needs new sliders! Just sayin!
god it's beautiful
Oh Jesus thats loud THE SOUND OF FREEDOM BABY!!!
Harness, we always have them on during flight even if the doors are closed.
What a beautifull noise.
Awesome
Superb aircraft, however I so miss the sound of a two-bladed Huey.
I clicked your profile, read the first half of your bio and wanted to ask but then saw the 2nd half.......... lol
Damn! This video makes it sound like the Huey has traded in its distinctive *WHUP* for *HURRICANE OF BEEEEEEEES*
airpl much
the original UH-1s had two rotor blades, these have four
hay zitroeth y filmación verdad en ojo verde brillante de telescopios en el radar de la isla Malvinas y dicho nombre es estabkode
Didn’t know it was customary for the door gunners to run up to each other and make out 👨❤️💋👨
Like these much more than the BlackHawks.
I can fly this, its in battlefield
I can fly this, it's in DCS.
Timmy 51 It has the UH-1H though
*sigh* I wish they put in the UH-1M, a dedicated gunship model with tow-missiles, and the chin mounted 40mm grenade launcher.
I can fly this in ARMA 3 all variants of it.
back too ground idle! less harm, more good! on the engines.

The very first helicopters to arrive
What with this UH 1 look change a lot after 1960.
the 1960 version was the h version this is the y version
Pretty small helicopter
nahh, the Regular UH-1B/C/D were the Best, not the same sound anymore...
This is louder that the bell uh-1, there must be a better engine in that thing! i mean look at the rotor tail and the blades on top! sounds like a giant cicada!
It has 2 engines now.... Faster, more range and heavier load carrying
OOORAHH BOYS!!! We got 2 burnin and 4 turnin!!! In our chueys ALL our boys are returning!!!!
I'm completely ignorant to helicopters. I do think the huey family is the most attractive group of helicopters out there but I want to know, what is the difference between a UH-1H, a UH-1Y and a 412 and Huey II? obviously the UH-1H and UH-1Y are military but whats the real differences?
The primary differences between the various UH-1 variants is the engine or engines (early variants UH-1A through UH-1H had only one engine...the UH-1N & UH-1Y both have twin turbine engines) and the number of blades on the main & tail rotors (all original UH-1 variants except for the UH-1Y have only two blades on the main rotor and two blades on the tail rotor which gave the helicopters their distinctive "whump-whump" sound that many of your retired and older army soldiers know & love). The Bell 412 is the civilian variant for the twin-engined UH-1N that was originally equipped with 4-bladed main & tail rotors. The Huey II is a re-engined UH-1H (an more powerful Allison turboshaft engine rated at 1800 shaft horsepower versus the UH-1H's original Lycoming engine rated at 1400 shaft horsepower) and it also has certain modifications (i.e. night vision, infrared countermeasure package & vibration reduction) to fit the role it is used for with the Philippine Air Force.
tchapman1977 wow, you must really know your stuff. thank you for the explination. much appreciated
You're welcome. My father is a retired US Army helicopter pilot (he started out in UH-1C gunships in Vietnam before transitioning over to the AH-1 Cobra gunship before his tour ended). Upon his return to the US, he went into the Army Reserves where he flew UH-1H for the remainder of his military career. So, having grown up around Hueys, they hold a fond spot in my heart & I dearly miss hearing the distinctive "whump-whump-whump" of the venerable Huey. Even though the UH-1Zs shown in this video are still Hueys, without that distinctive sound, they just sound like any other current helicopter. Still glad that the Huey is in active service with the Marines, of course, but they just don't sound right.
Love this helicopter but not a fan of the skids being to low
While I am glad that the Huey is seeing continued life with the US Military, it just isn't the same without the distinctive "whump-whump-whump" of the older variants. It sounds like it could be a Blackhawk or other helicopter and not a Huey...
My god those things sound nasty. You would definately hear that coming.
Great video ! 5ubscribed
want one...now oooh
Your Aviation Maintenance Administrationmen, MOS 6046 do not know that anymore. 🤨
Nicaragua derribo uno en 1984
Only a bit loud >.< :P
There is a movie trapped in the frequencies behind this video.
That thing has waaayyy to much fucking torque

"why do the marines need this ? Couldnt they have just used the Sikorsky Seahawk? puzzles me... And the AH-1 Viper ! Couldnt they hav just ordered the Apache or something? Someone help me out here...?"
Good question... The simple answer is... The Marine Corps selects helicopters according to their mission. AH-64 Apaches are NOT designed to go to sea, and fold up to save deck and hangar space... whereas the Marine Corps AH-1s 'are' designed with that in mind.
The UH-1Y, is a higher performance version of the old Hueys... with a more robust rotor system, much more robust engines, and new avionics. It fits the Marine Corps mission, in a way the "Seahawk" doesn't.
Another bonus... is found in cross-compatibility of parts between the Marine Corps helicopters. The Hueys and the Cobras come from the same company, and use some of the same parts.
This means less storage space required for spare parts.
It also means that mechanics can be trained up quicker to service those birds.
NOT TO MENTION... it reduces the cost to operate and maintain those aircraft, while giving the Marine Corps the aircraft it needs for the future battlefields, TODAY.
The AH-1-Z... is a magnificent attack helicopter, well suited for its air to ground role, in support of Marine infantry.
So... the bottom line... The Marine Corps knows exactly what it's doing, and why. If those aircraft didn't do an outstanding job, kicking the enemy's butt, while keeping Marines alive, WHILE also, getting the most bang for the taxpayer buck.... the Marine Corps wouldn't even have ordered them.
Long arm as Brantly 2b2
the blackhawks broke
down for maintance like always that why the services have 5 to make 2 fly.
That Rotor is running fast
coz of two turbine engine!
This is all the air force needs . rebuild there uh-1ns to uh-1y.
I was so pissed off that I missed this event..I was goind to go in 2010 but couldn't and then looked at the event schedule for '11 and they fucked it off just like they do everything.
nothing like the original, this is nothing but a random multiple blade helicopter to me now.
No kidding.
A Monster whit little bird voice...
4:35 the guy ran to the heli to hug the other guy and kiss him.
The landing of the second one is BAD... must be new at it still.
Center is off, tail done..............
I have permission to type that.
lol dude is all over the shop on the way down.....
