Crisis Core pushes the definition of a remaster to the edge, completely renovating the 15-year-old PSP game’s graphics, combat, and more. That said, many of the design choices made for the handheld original - like bite-sized side missions - are left intact, keeping this experience from feeling completely modern. But even with a few aging quirks, Crisis Core remains a fun, compelling, and integral chapter in the ongoing Compilation of Final Fantasy 7, and Reunion is the absolute best way to experience it.

An "8" is definitely the perfect score for this. I've played the original so many times and can't wait to replay this Remake again. They changed just about everything except for the original cutscenes which is no big deal for me cause the fight scene between Angeal, Genesis, and Sephiroth was truly iconic to watch. Sure it had it's small issues in this game but it's honestly nothing worth complaining about. The game is already perfect in it's own right.

Guys, it's a PSP game. If you go into Crisis Core with that in mind, I'm sure you can forgive it's quirks and find an amazing game! Highly recommend it!

This game is written to make you love characters and suffer. You will cry man. It's a fantastic game.
Crisis core was one of my favorite psp games. Great prequel and loved the backstory behind the buster sword, Zack and Soldier. Gameplay is unique and worked well for the psp. Looking forward to playing this again.

Played this on psp as a teen and it changed my entire perception of gaming. Very nostalgic getting the opportunity to experience this gem again!

This game was pretty much overlooked back in the day. Glad it got a second wind.
It's one of the most famous PSP game during it's time.. Imho it was more overrated since it's combat was lackluster.. What carried it was it's visuals and ofc its significance to the FF7 continuity..

FF7R runs just fine on Steam Deck, likely no different with this since it's a much lighter game.

The one thing that really sticks out to me is that the foliage and rocks look far superior to anything in FF7R. The foliage and rocks in Remake were actually quite low res looking and have a really poor level of detail compared to Reunion.
Well my friend, there are actually two reasons for that.
Ff7r had much greater scale in it's environments, so the memory limitations on PS4 were much higher. This was rectified in the PS5 release and the PC version since they are much more powerful. With crisis core reunion they have kept the same areas and structure of the original psp game allowing for better memory management for textures and assets in the environments. So even on PS4 textures should not be too low res compared to the stronger console. Dunno about switch tho 😂

Yeah, the new Zack is ackward. He doesn't have the same energy the original V.A had., but it is what it is
Because the original had a lot of text without voice-over. The Remaster has voice-over everywhere and if they'd kept the old voice actor certain bits would have a different voice.
@@mrnygren2 There's actually a really simple solution to that, it's called 're-hiring the original VA' which they easily could have done, and should have cause this new guy just isn't Zack.
@@Chibi_Rikka They simply wanted voices consistent between their newer releases. They aren't trying to expose new fans who jumped on with Remake to an entirely different cast only to jump back to the Remake ones for Rebirth.
It is pretty clear why they wouldn't do a full remake - SPOILER: Zach surviving in the FF7 remake is going to play a big part in the sequels, but there was no need to do more than introduce/remind people to the story. We're all waiting for FF7 Remake Part 2, we don't need a full reimagining of this. I'm still excited to play this.
Exactly, his tragic sacrifice and Cloud's emo DUMBASSERY is what makes Zack epic and overall a better character. Crisis Reunion is a perfect blend of remake and remaster

This was such a gem on PSP and its so rewarding as a FF7 fan that this remaster exists alongside the remake.
Loved crisis core on the PSP and super excited for this remaster on the switch! Can wait to play it.
I’ll never forgive square enix for how bad they botched zacks voice with the new voice actor but I’m so excited to get my hands on this. Now just torn between getting it on Pc or Switch
If you get it on PC, as you may already know by now, you can get a mod to replace all the old voice actors.

8/10 because of Zacks new voice actor. I'm sorry but nooooooo noooooooo nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. He sounds so lame now, part of Zack's charm was how he sounded over the top and cool. (the closest to sounding alright was the combat noises) But when he said "Thank you so much, Aerith. I'm Zack" -_- just please go and listen to the old voice actor the new one is just off on the delivery sometimes straight up changing the mood mannnnn. whatevs still gonna play it ig

wow suprised that IGN has the most accurate review. Most people were giving this super biased nostalgia goggle reviews like 9s and 9.5 even though it's basically still a pretty dated psp game just with combat tweaks to somewhat modernize it
IGn has been kinda fair lately. At least they did not give cod a 10/10. It was a 6 or something

TL:DR - If you want to play this on PC, it's a decent game. If you're planning on taking it on the go on your Steam Deck, it's amazing!
I’ve never played FF7 games. Is this series worth starting in chronological order, in order to get ready for the new one?
Play the original FF7 first so that you can experience the mystery in the original story. Playing the series chronologically would spoil everything.

They will end up being 3 standalone games. The first one has its own dlc episode called "Intermission" though.
I’m Getting this game for PS5 but sounds like this would be a great option for switch considering the PSP origin. Curious to see how the versions stack up performance wise.
The PS5 runs at 4k60 fps. The Switch runs at 720p at variable 30 fps.
I’m getting it for PS5 to play first then PC to mod.

Neither. "Remake" isn't even an actual remake. It's a bait and switch sequel and this is one of if not THE worst prequel to any IP ever made due to its terrible characters, story and disgusting amount of retcons. Do yourself a favor and play the OG. It's regarded as one of the greatest games ever made for a reason.
If you must play one of those first I'd say go with Remake then Crisis Core Reunion.
Ideally you would start with the original FF7 first, even if it seems outdated by comparison since "Remake" really isn't a traditional remake. It goes out of its way to establish that it happens after the original in a sort of alternate timeline with different events. Which makes it more of a sequel. So basically it doesn't replace the original outright. Rebirth is also looking to change more than they already did in Remake. Their justification being "both old and new fans don't know what will happen."
IGN gave FF7 Remake an 8. This is an awesome game as well but not on par with the OG Remake game.
If they decided to remake all of those cutscenes then we would be waiting another year or two to play this. Id much rather have this now and FF16 and FF7R2 next year.
Are the voicelines the same? Can't wait for the OG voice actor mod then.
For the most part, with the exception of the previously text only scenes now being fully voiced in Reunion. If they were to make a voice mod for the game they'd have to go out of their way to mute all that new dialogue as there aren't any old lines to replace them with.

Who's complaining about the cutscenes? They look fine.
On certain busier scenes they blends into a noisy mess (most notably the VR Training abort scene near the beginning).

What you said about the original GCI isn't entirely true the buster sword's design was changed so its different from the one in the original game or the other compilation of FFVII titles you can see the gold parts aren't there
