I do like the fact that they changed the type of bird scuttle is because that species actually hoards objects for its nest. The only downside is that the bird talks underwater… it can briefly swim underwater to catch fish but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t have gills😂
The type of bird scuttle was changed to can actually hold its breath underwater and swim very well but yeah if it was holding its breath it probably wouldn't talk lol
Basically, Ariel is the first one to put a spell on Eric when she uses her Siren-song to save him, so his obsession to find "the girl" is because he's already enchanted by her voice. It's why we can hear her singing in the background of 'Uncharted Waters'. Then, when Eric is properly introduced to Ariel and has gotten to know her, it's evident that his fondness of Ariel overshadows his obsession. He falls in love with the real person infront of him, instead of the idea of "the girl with the voice", thus the siren-song sort of loses it's power over him. When Vanessa (Ursula) then appears and uses Ariels voice again to get him under her spell, he's hesitant and confused because in his heart he's already in love with Ariel as a person, and not her voice. I love that change because it proved that Ariels voice had very little to do with them actually getting together in the end.
Was that also in the original? Usually siren songs are different and he could see her face for a little. He also slowly fell for Ariel. Idk so many different fake mermaid stories out there it makes me confused
@@lilybethkuhn9650 No, it wasn't in the original HCA-story, nor in the OG disney-movie. It's explained a few times in the movie, most obviously when Sebastian mentions that she used her siren-song to save him and in the lyrics to Eric's song, but there are quite a few examples. In this 2023 version specifically, it's pretty clear that he doesn't see her face because of the way he immediately "knows" it's not her when she's introduced to him, while in the animated one, Eric sort of recognizes her until he realize she can't speak (also Vanessa (human Ursula) is made to look like Ariel).
I mean, it’s the same in the animated movie, but with extra steps. Ariel’s voice was just very beautiful, and Eric still was obsessed with it, before realizing his true feelings for Ariel. I’m not a fan of over convoluted plots that could just be simple, but I don’t mind this change per se.
Yes, Halle was fantastic as Ariel, and I loved her chemistry with Jonah. In fact, the scene in which he learns her name while stargazing was so intimately sweet, that I felt like I was intruding on a private moment.
I really wish they could've used the songs from the Musical instead of what they went with, Lin Manuel's style doesn't mesh well with the Little Mermaid style and kind of is just out of place.
@@cbennett7480I’m usually not a fan of Lin but I loved the new music in the film personally. I’m glad they went with originals and not just exact copies of the animated film and musical.
I guess you guys didn’t understand that Eric is still under the effect of Arial’s siren song during his song and when he first meets Arial at the castle. He’s not actually in love with the girl that saves him he’s infatuated with her. He’s not flip-flopping. He’s literally under a spell.
No he was under Ursula’s spell. Ariel only sang. She didn’t sing the specific siren song. I don’t recall ever reading that Ariel bewitched Eric cause Eric slowly falls for her (just to be clear I am not arguing I’m just confused and kinda disagreeing. Wondering where you read anything about that cause the pirates at the beginning were wrong.
@@lilybethkuhn9650no. Everything note that she sings IS A SIREN SONG. It’s not something she can turn on and off. Humans cannot withstand the effect her song has.
I love that they had Jodi Bensen pass the fork (torch) to our new Ariel. I met Jodi last year at a convention and she is just the sweetest person. I tear up at that scene.
I do hope both Jodi and Halle will make a voice cameo at the minimum for the new Disney Junior show. It would be wrong to not include the original and new Ariel for even just one episode like in the first episode
Unpopular opinion but i liked that she didnt have the sparkly dress coming out of the water at the end, and instead put on the same dress but now all raggedy dress. To me, it's like the focus was on how her and Eric are such kindred spirits and belong together rather than her having a glamorous princess moment. She could be wearing a paper bag and Eric would still hug her like that and just be happy to be reunited with her ❤.
@@shanesunilbig facts right there. I love how they added a whole lot of layers to their relationship. Like in the original I barely cared about them but this time you can feel the genuinely falling in love and bonding. Ariel's voice started it but Eric didn't even recognize her when she came to him. I like not having a glamorous Disney Princess moment but instead a genuine moment.
@@melissabradley2418 if it wasn’t meant to be realistic why did they go all out their way to make everything hyper realistic to the point of animals being ugly and inexpressive?
@fabiofuoco I appreciate that you understood the discussion we were having there 🙏. A lot of people seem to think it was just about the bird being there - Sam
It’s amazing how many people don’t realize Eric’s song is not just about being bewitched by Ariel’s siren song, but about his longing for the ocean and exploration as well.
You talking about us? Cause that's not what we thought. My comments about his feelings for Ariel there were in reference to just that one line. The rest of the discussion is just about the overall song, because we already know he longs for exploration and the ocean. The movie told us that about him before the song ever started - Sam
Guys... The EXTRA song is because you have Halle Bailey in a movie singing only ONE song. They utilized her voice more than the original which if you think about it... Ariel had ONE song. I was glad we heard her more than just once. Great voice.
47:50 “Has Ariel killed the prince yet?” This is actually a great line, as killing the prince is actually the plot of the original story 🤷♀️ But for anyone who doesn’t know that, Scuttle is just stupidly one letter away from the current plot line 👍
If you listen to Halle's own music, you will see that she actually uses an operatic tone quite often. I'm pretty sure her and her sister have had vocal training of some sort.
The reason why Eric moved on from "the girl that saved him" so quickly is because Ariel used her siren song when she saved him, him falling in love with the real Ariel without the song shows that he connects with Ariel so much it broke the spell of the song.
I feel like there's a lot of criticism in this film in this video that is...just for the sake of complaining? I don't think it has to be that serious but it's like...more cynical than anything. So many comments here have to explain a lot about the nuances in this film too.
The quote from the original story at the beginning about mermaids having no tears and therefore suffering more makes her crying tears of joy in the very last scene much more emotional. That's just a clever little detail I wouldn't expect from a movie like this.
The sidekicks really aren't that bad, I feel like people just love being dramatic for the sake of being dramatic. they were kinda weird the first 3 seconds but after that I was completely cool with them. In Ariel's words, "stop being such a guppy" (or however you write that lol) anyway loved the movie, TLM was my favorite disney movie growing up and in my opinion, i like this remake more than the old one. Especially Halle and Melissa, they both absolutely nailed in in their roles
A note about costume: Tearing out a corset like it’s a statement is not the flex we think it is. The point of supportive undergarments is that it’s made for your body and not the other way around. Also, the Ariel on land costumes COULD’VE BEEN so much better.
Honestly Halle is so pretty that she makes them work but gosh they could’ve been so much better. My headcanon is because they didn’t know if she was a noble or not they just gave her a basic outfit.
@made-line7627 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. They're basically trying to say she was hired because she was black and not her extensive musical and acting background.
@@etherealnerdthat’s literal bull shit. Her audition was so captivating that the women who auditioned afterwards didn’t come close vocally or acting wise so the directors were completely content and proud to cast her
scuttle is a diving bird, which is why she can be underwater. ariel in the original signed her name on ursulas contract so why didnt she just write eric who she was. so in the live action the sea witch gives her amensia so she wont remember to get that kiss. since ariel sang to eric & in his song the reason he cant get it out his head is because of her song which you can hear within his own song, that why.
@@nathancruz9172 It actually easy. And the forget-the-deal thing is unnecessary. I understand what they tried to do but that kind of deal/contract signs and becomes binded by magic. Fair and square.
Literally seen this 100x since it’s been released lol and watching you guys react to it I won’t mind watching again. Lol Halle did amazing!!!!!! I hope you guys loved it
@themoviebudz1988 so guys in the Remake they made her older than 16 because of well you know. Also remember these are mythical magical creatures so they wouldn't reproduce the same as Humans, they have a book out and they all have the same mother.
Ahhh. I’ve seen this movie three times and Triton apologizing to Ariel at the end still makes me cry. More parents apologizing to their kids in media please. Also, this movie made me actually like and care about Eric. And the ending makes it clearer that the choice isn’t Eric or her family.
I remember reading/hearing somewhere about the voice actor that played Vanessa sounded better than Halle. As if it wasn’t Halles voice and that wasn’t the actual plan for the plot.
28:54 Eric’s song is just to serve to show their infatuation is mutually intense, while also adding that they’re both looking for similar things in life.
I wish they had done more with Ariel's sisters. They look beautiful. They should have been at the final battle against Ursula. And I think Eric should have killed Ursula with the ship, proving to Triton that a human actually cared and saved his daughters.
Triton knew Eric cared for his daughter because she told him she stop Ursula on her own. He doesn’t need to kill Ursula to show that he cares. I loved that Ariel killed Ursula because she’s the reason why she was in her own mess she did that to herself by trusting her so it’s only fair that she fixes it. The sister barley had any screen time in the first movie. They basically had the daughters of Triton and that was it.
@@yujuswifebecauseshesveryfr9414 The sisters should have had more screen time in this movie since they went through all the trouble of a redesign and background lore for each of them.
@@breezy3392 They did come out with a third movie and the sisters shined a lot so maybe they’ll make another movie or show but it won’t be a remake of that movie.
So there's an official comic that establishes how: a. Ursula realises Ariel is Tritan's weakness, b. gets that monster carcass home and c. explains that there are more half human beings than the mermaids in the waters, they're just so isolated (purposefully) that the mermaids have forgotten they exist. It also established that Ariel's oldest sister is the crown Princess, who will succeed Tritan and rule the oceans one day. So Ursula thinking she deserved the throne isn't just her talking - there seems to be a precedent to this. If they'd incorporated that it may also have explained why Tritan's daughters look so different and how Ursula and Tritan (and Morgana I guess if you count the animated sequel) are siblings yet look so different
@@ciararararara8047 I read it ages ago so I don't remember but I'll look for it! Might still be in my parents' home. Maybe. It's part of the Disney Comics Limited Series - I just checked and it might be No. 2.
agreed. She was the perfect ariel for this and I am so glad that the movie buds actually commented on her intonation and how much she actually tried to sound like ariel. She was great.
It makes me so mad whenever someone calls her casting "political correctness" or "woke" or whatever or suggests she only got the role because Disney wanted a black princess without making a new one. She earned the role, she was amazing. She portrait Ariel so well.
I think the song for Eric was more representative of the siren song, explaining why he fell in love so hard and so fast, and then he starts to drift away from that because what he gains with Ariel is out of a real bonding and connection versus just mermaid magic song makes him fall in love
i also saw it as like an homage to older movies on the past; one that springs to mind is chitty chitty bang bang. it's all pretty fast-paced and then there's a song that, as a kid, i felt was out of place; a slower romantic song sung by one character off alone. i always fastforwarded that part as a kid, but now as an adult, i love that scene a lot. this scene with eric felt like that. i might not have liked it as a kid, but as an adult i really love it, and love that he had a shining moment like that too.
i adore this remake more than anything, and a fun fact if you didn't know!! the woman who gives ariel the fork/"dingelhopper" is jodie benson, the og voice actress for ariel 💕
So, in this version, Scuttle is a Northern Gannett, which have a series of air sacs that allow them to still inhale while hunting for food. However it only lasts for about thirty seconds. So, the anatomy is right but the delivery of it is wrong. 😂😂😂 Edit: Also, it is absolutely HILARIOUS to me that people claimed historical inaccuracies over a black MERMAID but the film instantly shut that down by setting the film in the CARIBBEAN. 😂
To clarify, we’re talking about how the way the gannet breathes would affect how it talks underwater, not whether or not it can be underwater for any length of time 😊 - Sam
I really like this live action movie. I think its one of Disney's best aside from the 2016 Cinderella. I think people getting upset about the race and the cgi is just bubkiss. Halle brought Ariel to life, and Disney paid homage to Hans Christian Anderson and Jodi Benson. I went to see this twice in theaters with people all all ages, genders, and races and there was a round of applause at the end of each viewing. I love this movie. And this coming from someone who didn't see Ariel as a top tier Disney Princess.
This movie had so many moments where Ariel had agency in ways she didn't in the original. Stopping the shark Telling Eric her name The necklace smash The final battle All these ways both big and small you just wonder why she wasn't capable of doing them in the original
The siren this is definitely cannon, in the original it’s in the subtext, Ariel’s voice was used to literally bewitch the Prince when Ursula used it, also notice when Eric was drowning in the original and Ariel saved him, she never gave him cpr or first aid, she just dropped him on the beach after pull him out of the water. There is no way that man’s lungs would not be flooded😂 so it’s believable her voice has healing properties. I think the idea behind her voice is that it’s the intention, Ariel would not even know she was a siren if she sings for herself and out of love instead of control
And thank you! I’ve seen so many people react to the original and agree with Triton’s actions, but Ariel wouldn’t have taken Ursula’s deal if Triton hadn’t destroyed her collection. A big takeaway from TLM is that parents should listen to their children as much as they want to be listened to or they’re putting them in a dangerous position to seek out understanding and validation from people who don’t have their best interests at heart.
Guys it’s Disney it’s not supposed to represent real life or realistic feelings. And Eric’s song was great, was it necessary? No but it was still cool to see more of him and how he was feeling as an individual rather than him just being a secondary character in Ariel’s story. They made him an individual with his own thoughts, feelings and goals. He was just a pretty boy with whom Ariel loved without reason. Also it’s pretty established in the first film that what initially drew Eric in to aril was her siren song, so hen he meets Vanessa (the sea witch in disguise) and hears Ariel’s voice he retreats into the siren song again, even though at this stage he’s already really falling for Ariel without the magic of her voice. Also I’m assuming Ursula used a spell on him and I’m glad that in this version Eric is not totally under her spell, he seems more confused than anything else.
I don't know why people over analyze a nice , fun, simple Disney Film It's SOOOOO Annoying damn. It's Fantasy. Fantasy. Nothing is Perfect not even The Animated 🙄
what's the saying that if you look for something to complain about, you'll find it lol i get critiquing the media you watch and it being a reaction channel but sometimes i was like wait what's there to critique about this particular moment? lol but to each their own i guess
They changed the type of bird Scuttle is. Scuttle is a northern gannet which is a bird who is able to actually go under water. I also think when it comes to trying to make a live action of an animation people tend to think too hard, just to have something to complain about. What I mean is Flounder and Sebastian look a little weird but at the same time what did you expect them to look like when putting them against an actual human.
In a world of fantasy all things are possible. The original animated movie is it's own movie and I love it. This is obviously a new version, an adaptation. We adults ruin things , imagine when we were young and a bunch of cynical people kept nitpicking at everything. Comparing the animated movie to the book and complaining. I watched this movie with my niece and nephew (8 and 10 years old) and I realized why progress can be so slow. Watching my niece and nephew, their eyes glued to the screen, the absolute attention and joy, the big smile at seeing representation (we are LatinX and our family has all different hues, white-black and everything in-between). They watched the movie the way I watched the animated one. Please don't get me wrong, everyone is entitled to have their opinion and have a reaction but it saddens me how we - the adults are bringing all of our adult cynicism to the movie.
The performance style is Operetta, and a lot of the original Renaissance voice actors (Jodi Benson, Paige O'Hara, and Susan Egan, as a few examples) were from the musical theatre world. Lloyd Webber's Phantom is probably the best known popular operetta.
The movie: expands on the original themes and character motivations, fills in the gaps, answers questions from the original, gives the entire things more depth Yall: but why are they doing this??????
I really only had three issues with this movie. 1: thingamabobs are meant to be corkscrews 2: I wish they hadn't cut out Eric's line "I lost her once I'm not going to lose her again" 3: I wish they would have had Eric show Ariel how to sail so logically she would know what to do at the final battle.
This is honestly the only disney remake ill actually rewatch. The others either dont really bring anything new to the story or are a downgrade from the original (mulan and lion king 🚶🏽♀️). Like... i honestly just adore how they developed Ariel and Eric's relationship in this one, and Halle was a perfect casting choice. While theres a few things I dont like about the film, overall I think its the only disney remake worth giving a chance.
The Jungle Book brought a fresh spin on its story and it’s the only live-action remake with a higher critics score than its original animatred counterpart
When they say she's mute because of "all she's been through" and "this poor child" they think she's a runaway slave. Bit rough connotations for a lighthearted Disney movie, but...yeah it makes sense with the Caribbean at the time.
I love this movie and I think they did it better than the original actually. Especially the ending where you can see she's a little sad about leaving her dad and her family. In the original she's way too happy about it lol. They made the movie as a whole less problematic. I also like that they made her doubt more making the deal with Ursula. I have no problem with how they made Sebastian look. He looks like a crab. He would've looked way weirder if they made him look like the cartoon version. I think they could've made a better job with Flounder, though. Made him.more colorful or something.
@@nathancruz9172 I don't dislike the original at all. Despite that I've always found it problematic even as a kid, I've still enjoyed it haha. Nowhere near my favorite Disney movie, but still. I just find that they executed the live action movie way better.
same!! I think the story is much better suited for live action. The animated one is very well done and fun, but I was blown away by how gorgeous both the ocean AND the human world were in this version. you can empathize with both erics desire for the sea and ariel’s desire for the human world. it made the scenery and story super impactful. I also love how much they prioritized the love story.
@@pillowvibeswhat I love about this version is that you can tell they rewatched the original movie and read the original story and then added on to that. They made things more connected added more depth to the characters and relationships. This is coming from a huge fan of the original. People need to realize that remakes aren’t meant to be carbon copies and just because it’s the original doesn’t mean it’s the best. Remakes/covers can absolutely outdo the original.
Fun Fact: Opera has a signature style of long increasingly serious musical numbers, dating back to the Renaissance. Operetta (Sam, this is what you were thinking of) differs from its Italian counterpart in that it was created in Paris, France. It was introduced in the middle of the 19th century as many desired shorter, lighter pieces of work. Plus, this style was easier for foreigners to understand! The style grew increasingly popular and quickly spread to the rest of the world. Also, The Little Mermaid was filmed on the island of Sardinia!
I loved this live action so so so much, though some of the points yall made are completely true now that there's been some time since I last saw it. Still absolutely love the changes and especially Halle's performance and the chemistry between Halle & Jonah / Ariel and Eric :) so i'm very relieved you guys enjoyed it overall
With the "siren song" I do believe that she "lured" him back to the light as he was fading/dying on the beach. Not so much that it has healing properties, but just brought him back from the brink by luring him back to the light. (My opinion/guess not fact)
10:24 with the scuttle thing its... Actually very consistent with The Little Mermaid, there aee multiple instances in the series and other movies were Marine animals even ones that cant breathe underwater talk underwater, like whales and Dolphines and Melodys 2 sidekicks - both mammals, cant breath water (ones a peguine) still talk underwater
Loved the video overall but some of y'all's nitpick felt very cinemasins-esque like the whole "how does she know how to use he legs?" and like yall dont understand musicals. There's also this weird disconnect where yall understand that some things wouldn't translate to live action well but also complain when it's fleshed out. Like ariel and Eric falling in love so quickly worked in the original cuz it's a cartoon but it it wouldn't be nearly as believable in this film so they fleshed both characters out more and gave them something to connect over😭
Thanks! I'm sorry I missed the live stream. But as I have not yet seen the film I am going to watch it with you both and get your reactions. I am excited for it. Have a great week!
Idk why y’all are surprised Halle is Beyoncé’s protege after all❤ Also the director said the sisters have different ethnicities depending on what ocean/sea they were born in
Facts it makes no sense as to why Ariel did it, literally ruins any reason as to why triton suddenly likes humans at the end of this sorry excuse of a movie
Note: corsets were not, in fact, less comfortable than modern day bras. Much like there are different bras for different things, corsets were also the same.
@@themoviebud1988 I have nothing to do with that I just don’t like when people speak for everyone. Celeste with the “nobody cares about Disney Live Action” comment.
Minor explanation for why Scuttle can breathe underwater (someone correct me if I'm wrong) is that they apparently changed it to a real bird capable of swimming/staying underwater for extended periods of time.
Great reaction, glad you enjoyed it! Although I do think you guys are forgetting this is mainly intended to be a kids movie, some of the things that might seem unnecessary are probably really good to drive the point across for kids! They LOVE Scuttlebutt too 😅 and I personally thought it was really fun. Loved this movie, specially how they added songs & fleshed out Eric and their relationship! So glad this remake is enhancing the story instead of just copying it. Also I agree, the whole cast, cinematography and visuals overall were so good! The more I watch the more I love the way they animated the animals, but what stands out is really their performances/voice acting!
They changed Skuttle to a northern gannet diving bird, he was a seagull in the original, they can dive underwater to about 72 FEET and they collect things. Which is perfect for Skuttle! it gives her more screen time with Ariel and Skuttle did talk in the original! Also northern gannet just makes more sense. So I'm glad that they changed that! look them up, It's pretty fascinating and they can actually use air sacks when underwater to breathe! Animals are CRAZYY. Also you guys should do a rewatch of the og because the things you think they were hammering in here, were actually not explained or shown well in the og. Like they actually showed here why Ariel and Eric had a connection in the first place, he's drawn to the sea while she's drawn to the land. And nothing felt dragged out to me, they had to add scenes to show their romance blossoming naturally and organically. Like having Ariel not remember she had to kiss him made it so much more real and believable. And I loved the for the first time song, it's her learning about everything she wanted to understand, like the fire and her realizing it hurts.
Eric was under the spell of her siren song, hence his song and infatuation. Then he fell in love with Ariel without her voice for who she is and Ursula used her siren song to spell him again. He’s not flip flopping. Scuttle bug is the only addition I dislike. Everything else improves the animation greatly!!! Love that Ariel got an additional song and the reprise. Love that their relationship got additions to show how they are alike and why they would connect so quickly and easily without the siren song. Love the looking at the stars moment and Kiss The Girl. Love the moment in the castle after. Love that he hugged her closer after the mermaid reveal. Ariel and Jonah had awesome chemistry and this is the first Disney live action remake where I wish they would make a sequel whether it was a live action of the sequel that exist or something new.
It was always a weird criticism, to me, that everyone got so tweaked about the line “it’s she who holds her tongue, who gets her man!” Like, it’s the villain song. Of course it’s a bad message.
What I like about the movies is that they added depth to Ariel and Eric relationship because in the movies it's very superficial, it's love at first sight and there's nothing on the other, when there is more, they make them spend more time together, give them common points, we see them bonding unlike the animated version.
@25:00 so those are moon jellyfish. Their sting is harmful to humans and literally wont hurt. You can usually touch them and be fine so for a sea creature human sized like Ariel, she wouldnt feel the sting
People (not me) have always had a problem with Eric being “one-dimensional” and their relationship being “based on very little” (again, I disagree), so I understand why this movie added more time in order to handle both. I feel the animated movie has enough going on in montages that you can draw conclusions, but I also think the same run time and amount of character work in live-action would draw criticisms.
An argument people make about Ursula having Ariel forget the kiss is that it ruins Ursula’s character bc she’s not supposed to be “deceptive”, seemingly fail to forget her eels tipping the boat during Kiss the Girl is also deceptive as well as Ursula becoming Vanessa to further interfere with Ariel’s triumph.
Watched this in the theater and had a lot of fun! One of the few disney remakes I enjoyed and I think it did a lot of things better than the original, mainly the buildup of Ariel and Eric's relationship.
I dig the minor changes to certain song's like in the animated version part of your world the iconic line "thingyobobs I have plenty" was changed to "thingyobobs I have twenty" in the live action version, not to mention in Ursula's song they changed it from a magic scroll to Ariel's scale in the bowl (essentially a blood contract)
And we're amazed at how many people can't understand that we're talking about the logistics of the gannets breathing and talking underwater, not whether or not it can be underwater for any length of time 🙄 - Sam
Song is not just exposition it is character and emotions. It's when you have so many feelings you have to sing. hence Eric and Ariel on land for the first time.
"I'll just sing him awake." Actually, I think this is what she did. She used her siren's song (which works on a subconscious level) to force his conscious brain to wake up. I don't know if this is what she intended but it worked! And the reason Ursula couldn't wipe her mind of Eric or everything (probably?) is because her memory as a whole isn't part of the contractual deal that was made. The terms of the deal ARE part of the contract so Ursula was able to flub those details through memory wiping.
I cried extra hard when I heard Jodi’s voice - I loved that they didn’t show her face first, so anyone who recognised her voice got a bit of a shock before getting to see her 💚
Scuttle’s character was changed to a GANNET bird because that species can deep dive to 70 feet underwater. It can also stay submerged for up to 30 seconds. This was changed in the movie to make Ariel’s first time to the surface more special.
I went to see the Little Mermaid twice in the movie theaters, the very first time I saw the movie everyone was applauding near the end of the credits, because they LOVED it that much. It was amazing

I agree with you. Another Unpopular Opinion: When Eric hugs Ariel during that scene, that felt more magical and romantic than the kiss right after.
@@shanesunilbig facts right there. I love how they added a whole lot of layers to their relationship. It’s amazing how many people don’t realize Eric’s song is not just about being bewitched by Ariel’s siren song, but about his longing for the ocean and exploration as well.

All the new songs are honestly so good. They're not perfect, but I enjoy them.
47:50 “Has Ariel killed the prince yet?”
This is actually a great line, as killing the prince is actually the plot of the original story 🤷♀️ But for anyone who doesn’t know that, Scuttle is just stupidly one letter away from the current plot line 👍
right!! it felt like a little easter egg to those that knew the original story!
If you listen to Halle's own music, you will see that she actually uses an operatic tone quite often. I'm pretty sure her and her sister have had vocal training of some sort.
They are actually self taught ( with the guitar and piano as well)
The reason why Eric moved on from "the girl that saved him" so quickly is because Ariel used her siren song when she saved him, him falling in love with the real Ariel without the song shows that he connects with Ariel so much it broke the spell of the song.
I feel like there's a lot of criticism in this film in this video that is...just for the sake of complaining?

The sidekicks really aren't that bad, I feel like people just love being dramatic for the sake of being dramatic. they were kinda weird the first 3 seconds but after that I was completely cool with them. In Ariel's words, "stop being such a guppy" (or however you write that lol)

I wish they had done more with Ariel's sisters. They look beautiful. They should have been at the final battle against Ursula.
And I think Eric should have killed Ursula with the ship, proving to Triton that a human actually cared and saved his daughters.
Oh we can't have that in today's society
Yea, I love that idea ☺️

Exactly! Couldn’t have said it better myself. I also actually loved that song and really loved his voice 🥰
i also saw it as like an homage to older movies on the past; one that springs to mind is chitty chitty bang bang. it's all pretty fast-paced and then there's a song that, as a kid, i felt was out of place; a slower romantic song sung by one character off alone. i always fastforwarded that part as a kid, but now as an adult, i love that scene a lot. this scene with eric felt like that. i might not have liked it as a kid, but as an adult i really love it, and love that he had a shining moment like that too.
i adore this remake more than anything, and a fun fact if you didn't know!! the woman who gives ariel the fork/"dingelhopper" is jodie benson, the og voice actress for ariel 💕
“You shouldn’t have had to give up your voice to be heard”. What a legendary quote
Why can some people not just enjoy a movie without questioning absolutely everything that happens.
It would actually have to be immersive in order to prevent the nitpicking
So, in this version, Scuttle is a Northern Gannett, which have a series of air sacs that allow them to still inhale while hunting for food. However it only lasts for about thirty seconds. So, the anatomy is right but the delivery of it is wrong. 😂😂😂
Edit: Also, it is absolutely HILARIOUS to me that people claimed historical inaccuracies over a black MERMAID but the film instantly shut that down by setting the film in the CARIBBEAN.
Same.
This movie had so many moments where Ariel had agency in ways she didn't in the original.
Stopping the shark
Telling Eric her name
The necklace smash
The final battle
All these ways both big and small you just wonder why she wasn't capable of doing them in the original
7:54 that's how real life flounders hide from enemies. Because their eyes are on one side of their bodies, so they can hide and still keep watch.

Because it lacks immersion

Fun Fact: Opera has a signature style of long increasingly serious musical numbers, dating back to the Renaissance. Operetta (Sam, this is what you were thinking of) differs from its Italian counterpart in that it was created in Paris, France. I did. I’m secretly Aquaman, don’t tell anyone 😂 - Sam
Ariel and Jonah had awesome chemistry and this is the first Disney live action remake where I wish they would make a sequel whether it was a live action of the sequel that exist or something new.
why did they make it so complicated? it’s a kids movie I was even confused as an adult
@@celeste_xoit’s not that complicated or confusing 😭
@@celeste_xothat sounds like a you problem. It wasn’t confusing or complicated.
@@clover2739right 💀
@@yujuswifebecauseshesveryfr9414 like I’m more confused on how it’s seen as complicated 😭
It was always a weird criticism, to me, that everyone got so tweaked about the line “it’s she who holds her tongue, who gets her man!” Like, it’s the villain song. Of course it’s a bad message.
As someone who adored the animated and now live action I'm so irritated they took that out 🤦🏾♀️
What I like about the movies is that they added depth to Ariel and Eric relationship because in the movies it's very superficial, it's love at first sight and there's nothing on the other, when there is more, they make them spend more time together, give them common points, we see them bonding unlike the animated version.
someone said akwafina’s voice sounds like nails on a chalkboard so she was perfect for the role of the annoying bird 😭😭
The thing ariel was riding on in “under the sea” was called a “blanket octopus”!
Thanks! 😊 - Sam
49:12 fun fact Halle got to keep that little mermaid at the end of filming
Watched this in the theater and had a lot of fun! One of the few disney remakes I enjoyed and I think it did a lot of things better than the original, mainly the buildup of Ariel and Eric's relationship.
this movie healed something in my heart i stg, like the little black girl in me started crying
The beginning stuff with the sailors and superstitions is actually from the original animated film
“this is what humans call a frat party” TOOK ME OUT 😂
Im glad i wasnt the only one who questioned on how Scuttle talk under water 😂
I am amazed how many people can't understand that Scuttle is now a gannet not a seagull. Gannets dive into water to fish as seen here.
And we're amazed at how many people can't understand that we're talking about the logistics of the gannets breathing and talking underwater, not whether or not it can be underwater for any length of time 🙄 - Sam
We will support you all. Keep working hard.
Thanks so much! - Sam
Just want to add here that Ariel in this movie is 18! 😊
Cool, thanks for then info 😊 - Sam
Song is not just exposition it is character and emotions. It's when you have so many feelings you have to sing. hence Eric and Ariel on land for the first time.
"I'll just sing him awake."
Actually, I think this is what she did.
My name is Jana, and you tripped me out in the beginning 😂😂 I wasn’t expecting it
Scuttle is a bird that can go and breathe underwater
I forgot what it's called
It’s a Gannet!
The northern gannet can’t actually breath underwater dude. That requires gills - Sam
I went to see the Little Mermaid twice in the movie theaters, the very first time I saw the movie everyone was applauding near the end of the credits, because they LOVED it that much. It was amazing
Dude, i literally felt like you guys were trying super hard to stop yourselves from saying "i HATE the Shit out if this movie" like? Its literally a movie with mermaids and talking animals, things dont have to make sense 😂 just enjoy what it is, if u gonna bring realism in it, its just gonna get ruined, some elements were literally the same as the animated but u still judged them here but not in the animated one😢 i actually love this version WAY more than the animated (just my opinion) cause ariel gave off spoiled brat vibes in that...😂 It became REALLY hard for me to watch this video cause it felt like u guys were extra harsh just on this movie? From the other reactions that ive seen, you guys dont judge things that dont make sense that often, but it felt really harsh in this very video? 😢
it’s really not that serious
@@celeste_xo I know, but I don't know why I felt it like, THROUGH the screen 😭😭😭
Dude, we both really enjoyed this movie and said so, multiple times in this video. Criticising something doesn't equal hating it.
Also kinda confused about the judging things that don't make sense... First, it's not judgement, we're just throwing around ideas and second, virtually all of our videos have lots of discussions about things we didn't think made sense. It's like our main thing 🤨 - Sam
Scuttle is a Gannet in this version so she can stay underwater for a long period of time.
45:56 yess we need this, i actually love this scene and this song 😊
it's not about getting people to understand it's about developing a relationship that had literally no development at all and no chemistry. maybe y'all need to rewatch the original
Uncharted Waters slaps y’all come onnnn😩😩 as a musical theater girlie I love the new songs (minus scuttle butt cause……… yeah)
I’ve noticed that a lot of people don’t like Uncharted Waters on first listen
To be clear, I didn't say I didn't like that song. I didn't offer an opinion on the song at all. I just didn't think it added to the movie 🤷♂️ - Sam
@@themoviebud1988 Honestly I felt the same way at first. Again a lot of people talked about how they didn’t like the song at first. But now they love it.
