Before all the analysis and masterclasses and slow motion replays, you couldn't see the intricacies of spin bowling. The idea seemed to be that off-spin was generated by this textbook "unscrew the lightbulb" technique, which couldn't be further from the truth. Pretty much every recent great spin bowler - irrespective of whether their stock delivery is a leg break or an off break - generates spin from wrist movement. Nathan Lyon doesn't move his fingers at all. Graeme Swann used to spin the ball by squeezing the ball out across his second knuckle but the squeeze comes from hand and wrist movement. Essentially, what made Murali so good was he was bowling off spin with the revs of a leg spinner and he could control it. His influence is massive.

Murali is a freaky genius. What skills and no action even close to his. What unique talent and temperament to go with it. Almost unplayable till he retired.
Great video, he's very articulate/clear and insightful, and as we can see after all those years of practice, it just takes him a few balls to get it spot on, "Repetition is the mother of skill," as the saying goes :).
When you see the side on slow mo of him, you can see that his elbow doesn't flex at all (it's not straight but he can't straghten it). What you can see is that his wrists go crazy which gives an illusion at full speed. He is a truly remarkable bowler

The way Nasser reached for his crease after 2nd ball is amazing to watch all those years of batsmen ship still in his muscle memory
Hear the revs on the ball when he does that little flip during his runup...he was great to watch always. And such a likeable bloke.
man he was not just bowling dusras and off-spinners, he was playing with the mind of the batsmen as well. amazing to see the way he sets up the batsmen
Funny thing is that his doosra spins more than my leg break 😂. Truly a champion ❤️ 🔥 💯
If you are leg spinner I rate you
Cause I slap up leg spinner
@@leobladeplayz5306 practice practice
@@whoisthat1684 yep you would not get slapped
The "Smiling Assassin" -perfect name for Murali :)
You make videos of his skill, watch them and love them as much as you can.
Still if he bowls u in competitive cricket, he will still be unplayable.
He had a gift, and his humility made him so special.
Awesome Murli.
Love u from India.
Much love and respect for Murali. Met him in Perth once, he was super gracious and kind to take a moment with a starry-eyed fan.
Murali is a freaky genius. What skills and no action even close to his. What unique talent and temperament to go with it. Almost unplayable till he retired.
I love how he is so free spirited and keen to educate.. Big ups Murali
Great video, he's very articulate/clear and insightful, and as we can see after all those years of practice, it just takes him a few balls to get it spot on, "Repetition is the mother of skill," as the saying goes :).
Excellent piece from the Sky team. Much respect all round.
Even after his retirement they are still guessing what is coming . Now my respect has gone up for all the batsmen’s who faced this natural maverick
All the dislikes are from the batsmen who were bamboozled by Murli! 😂
😂😂😂😂
😂😂
:D :D Actually
Or from warnie😀
😂😂🤣🤣😂🤣
The final sentences show us what a humble man M.M is. I Tip my hat to you, Sir!
When you see the side on slow mo of him, you can see that his elbow doesn't flex at all (it's not straight but he can't straghten it). What you can see is that his wrists go crazy which gives an illusion at full speed. He is a truly remarkable bowler
Also his shoulders.
@@abhinavnair790 Yes, surprised I forgot about that too. His shoulder has such a range of motion that he can bowl a doosra with a (relatively) straight arm, which anyone can imagine if they know how a doosra is bowled
@@rorybessell8280 Yes. Perhaps the only legit doosra the game has seen.
Also helped him throw while fielding in the deep. Can't seem him being able to do that otherwise with that bent forever elbow.
I've always been inspired by Murali's bowling, but, after all these decades, I had no idea that he had such a warm personality and great sense of humour. What a top bloke!
He said he'll not bowl a doosra for 2 overs. But then he bowled one after 2 balls. Shows how competitive he is. ❤❤❤❤ Legends are always legends
He should thank sangakara for saving so many 4 byes run!
His spinning balls would've reached fine leg or third man if Sanga fails to hold.
Bye runs doesnot go into bowlers account. They are extras
they don't go against the bowler ....
And prasanna jayawardhane
He once flipped a coin kept over the wicket with that spin
@Geeky Sammy avaliable on UA-cam he and swann coin challenge
Today's kid came here to this legend's bowling.
And a 90s kid like me came here to see those expressions 😍😁
This is so wholesome. Buy the way you can hear the fizz when he is spinning the ball in his hands
he was wearing our srh jersey . what a legend !. he was the one that brought us tom moody as a coach and we made 5 play offs in 7 seasons
Ranatunga, Sanga, Mahela ,Murali were such a humble persons in and off the field.... Sri Lanka won't get the replacements for these Legends again ❤
Not Ranatunga
Not Sanga he used to fight a lot on field
Vaas, Herath as well
@@beingalibukhari And Rightnacker
Never say never
He's no less than a magician with the ball...
It would be terrible to face murali... so difficult to read his wrist and variations. Does everything a great spinner needs to:
- turns the ball a lot (in both directions)
- bounce
- zip off the wicket
... so humble too - just a legend.
Man this video put a smile on my face! Great to see the sportsmanship between Murali and Nasser!
It's a real joy seeing international cricketers talking cricket with other international cricketers. The mutual respect is off the chain.
What a magic bowler Murali was. Cricket's no easy when you have to survive against Murali & Warne.
Murali the great!!😮 You know you are watching a genius when they can still perform those tricks way after retirement into late age. Murali was an absolute genius and such a humble, likeable character.
Murali is a Genius. Thoroughly enjoyed his bowling growing up. I watched a crcicket classics episode about him I guess on Star Cricket, he's one of the nicest human beings you'll come across and the way he practised was insane. Huge fan from Pakistan.
Greatest bowler ever and greatest legend ever but yet so humble what a guy
06:15 Match is Jan 19 1999 Eng won that match on Melbourne cricket ground Murali got wicket of Nasser Hossain stumped by kaluwitharana.
Nasser hussain about Murali: "Smiling assassin"... ...
so many s in one sentence
Very fascinating to watch the best bowler ever explain his techniques
But McGrath wasn't speaking
What a great bowling lesson from the legend himself!
Small-minded people always whine, insult, criticise and talk down those who sit way above them in talent, character, class and decency. Murali, you were, are and will always be the best spinner in the world. Small-minded people will try to put you down and call you all kinds of names, but you have nothing to prove to no one. Your stats speak for themselves. More than that, you're one of the most humble, down-to-earth and nicest humans I've ever seen in the world. Smiling Assassin is an apt name for you. You didn't need sledging or underhand tactics like some to push the edge. Whatever danger you posed to the opposing team, you did it all quietly and with a smile on your face. Salute to you sir!
Crazy stuff even after 10 years post retirement. Legend for life !
He is the greatest bowler among all legends because he got total of 1300 wicket. According to me
Greatest batsmen : sachin
Greatest bowler : Muralitharan.👍
True
Wasim Akram.
Don Bradman.
Laabib Mursalin yeah
@@laabib44 wasim Akram? Na
What a legend ! MORLI.... even greater human being... love you from British Pakistani
Damn! Thank you Sky Sports Cricket England. As an Aussie cricket fan I found that equal parts entertaining and fascinating. It was so good to hear from such a high quality spin bowler that seems so humble, which contrasts so deeply to the Australian spinning legend. Cheers.
Great to see the best in all humility. Humble and very ground to earth.🙏
The way that everyone tries to celebrate the lbw to salute the legend and Murali himself immediately says "not out". No ego at all. Wonderful
You can hear the ball spin like a tornado. What a legend.
What an Accuracy at age of 46 !
Legends like Murli, Warne, Sachin never retires.
First time I saw him bowl I thought who’s this guy?? He’s absolutely brilliant!! No wonder he got the amount of wickets he did.
This is great, watching the calculations he went through to get the wickets he did. It's like watching John Lennon explaining how he wrote his songs.
Such a gentleman of the game .. nice humble always smiling ..the best spinner to have played the game but still some cricket pundits call him a chucker unfortunately. Loves and respect always ❤️
5.22 " you've got sanga is there chirping you ,telling you how bad you are"😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 it 's the toughest thing they had during their careers,
😂😂 definitely
Muttaih is the real mr cricket as hussey he was class at lancashire
😂😂😂😂 this is gold!!! We want more of this!!
The Legendary Muttiah Muralitharan...Miss your bowling and good to see you after a long time. Great respect sir.
14:45 i got so happy when he said Jayawardana would've been catching that
Oh yeah that was out all day long
Murali is simply the best spinner of all time...nd one of the most humble cricketers...love from india...
