The Rest of Humanity: Oh no we are out of resources and food and stuff what would we do. Space Venice: Thats like... rough dude. So about those trade ships...
ABSOLUTLY LOVE how fleshed out and real this character feels in the video, it wasnt just a history monologue, the charcter just felt like he was reminiscing about the past while having a drink and chatting to the recorder. Perfect way to introduce lore!! SOOO EXCITED FOR SOJOURN
No worries about the schedule, Daniel. All of us funded the project because we trust you to get it done right, not done fast. These little appetizers are great for keeping the interest up, and I'm looking forward to the full show whenever it is ready.
Absolutely. By all means give us these little Lore vids to tide up over, but the priority on the Sojourn needs to be quality not speed. I'd rather have an impressive product half a year down the line than a slap-dash shitty one delivered to me now.
This is encyclopedia level world building i love the inclusion of a civilization like this that wasn't just a strero typical Darwinist "only the strong may survive" Orkish race. For once castaways are competent and well educated who managed to save themselves without an overly complicated mcguffin. Well done Sojourn team
I love hearing the aussie accent there mate really fits the sort of civilized survivors for these people, friendly, hard working and come together in mateship by the sounds of it. Perfect Voice acting from Ben Prendergast great work mate.
This is already my favourite location, and possibly my favourite character in the series, buuut a little early for that lol honestly Freehold would absolutely be my go to place to live, just building ships non-stop and hanging around the biggest bazaar in the cluster? Count me in!
I could've sworn it said Merican for a second. America has gone to the one place not corrupted by capitalism...SPAAAYCE! In all seriousness, I'm so excited for the Sojourn.
Me, a naive child of a rocky planet: "You can't keep getting hyped over and over again at infinite" Daniel, at the Spacedock: *Releases Soujourn related video* Me: "Well, i'll be damned"
Outstanding content, as always with The Sojourn. Like many have said before, take all the time you need, patience makes perfect. Also, is it me or does this character have any inspirations from Alex in The Expanse? Lonely traveler, almost a rock Hopper, always wants to provide for his new-found family while he left his old one back home... Rings quite a few bells, and I quite like it!
Ironic. I was browsing UA-cam about the latest depressing news from Scam Citizen, stumbled onto your Last Starfighter video, then misjumped to here. And...well, I love what I see. This is incredible. You've got a subscriber. Finally some good space opera science fiction.
Wasn't sure what to expect, but what I got was a beautifully acted, sing-me-to-sleep voiceover with some quality content. Loving it, I wish I had jumped on the kickstarter when it was happening
Give 'em enough "duct tape and string" and they build you just about anything. I love the concept and the character of Mathias is awesome. Wonderful blend of irreverent sarcasm, plain spoken personality, and stubborn independence. I can't wait until you release more. Thanks for sharing this small tidbit.
That's nice! Smoothe. coherent and believable. Builds a solid foundation, pulls you in and you are there. Very well written. The animation is only going to be a bonus. Your team should write a book. You've got the chops. You've got the vision. You are on to something more than you realize. This is AWESOME!
That got me more excited than the previous Sojourn stuff if I'm honest! I'm in the process of designing me own Sci Fi setting (though for a significantly less ambitious purpose - D&D setting) called Chorus and Dischord, and I just wish I was coming up with the believable lore and history you are for this!
Very excited for this indie project. It's nice to see something original. Can't wait for this to go live. Very curious about the ship type designs and naval ORBATs and TO&E's. Love the lore side of the universe.
Also, i'm not gonna lie. Mathias Croft SOLD this series for me. It wasn't just the lore or the ships or anything else really...just this voiceover...croft is just plain awesome!
This is why I am so exited for the Sojourn. We get a (hopefully) amazing series and lore-, analysis-content directly from the creators and like in this case in-character. Amazing! One question: On the Tantalus Cluster map Mericia and Meric‘s Keep are two different systems. But in the video it sounds like Meric‘s keep is a station in the Mericia system. Can anyone clear this up?
@Spacedock It would be cool if the star system maps w/ legends/points of interest keys were available for download. Are there any plans to release them at some point? Maybe those along with ship schematics, artwork and whatnot could be made available in book form for purchase, too. Any plans along these lines in store for us in the future? :)
@@brandondavis8005 Oh, yeah! Man, I was just thinking from the standpoint of casual reading/curiosity, but, heck yeah, that would be awesome! GREAT material for RPG use! It would be fun to explore this society/culture. I wonder if this is percolating in their minds, as well? It would be awesome to have some RPG content released that focuses on different things that the main story doesn't and have it be officially sanctioned. It might even put what happens in the story in a different light or help explain certain aspects of what's going on. It wouldn't have to be anything major, either, perhaps just deal with interactions between some minor factions or whatnot so that it wouldn't affect the main story whatsoever. Thanks for mentioning this, man! :)
The asteroid trick is a very neat security solution in a setting which uses jumpgate-style travel. Not only do you make it tough to mount an effective invasion, you're also stacking up all the visiting civilians from other systems right next to the gate - making them unofficial hostages, since they'll be right on the front line if a shooting war does break out. It does make me wonder about the physics of the Driftgates, though. If there's a driftgate in the destination system, does it act as an unavoidable 'lock-on' to any incoming travellers, forcing them to emerge through it - or could you tilt the outbound gate a few millionths of a degree, shunt your invasion fleet out elsewhere in the destination system, and let them worry about reclaiming the gate later? Also, does having a gate at both ends matter only in terms of being able to make the return trip? Or is gate-to-gate travel inherently safer / quicker / cheaper than gate-to-no-gate?
Don't quote me on this, but I remember hearing in the episode on drift gates that if you're jumping to a gate, it's a lot more accurate than jumping to a location without a gate. The thing that makes gate propagation possible is that you can get somewhere inside the target system, then build a return gate with your resources and stuff. You just have no idea where you're going to emerge. Which, fun fact, makes it nigh-impossible to try to invade a system without jumping directly to the target gate, because you have no idea where you'll emerge - and the odds that your fleet's cohesion will be maintained are basically zero. (I hope you're listening Spacedock)
Mericia sounds like a right tenacious lot. Those spacer-folks must have been pretty good at growing food in space, since they've been living in a worldless system for so many seasons.

@Nico Christopher Yea, have been using kaldrostream for since december myself :D

Sojourn content? A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

Yea if that's what happened than that's nuts
Also is that over a 100 years? Wouldn't they use the idk the 4 season per year mark or like idk how you would calculate this tbh
