Hello Daniel, Alasdair and anyone else working with Spacedock and/or The Sojourn. I just want you to know that I, and I think many people will agree with me on this, hope that The Sojourn ends up becoming very popular and will line up amongst the giants like Battlestar Galactica and Babylon 5. Because like those shows, this brings something new and original, not done before, to the table. On behalf of every sci-fi fan, thank you.
There's probably a whole lot of unexploded warheads floating around too. But just imagine that, you're flying between gates, already on edge about even being here and then *BANG* this frozen corpse slams into the window
@@weldonwin Chances are your ship won't have windows. They will have external sensors or cameras. One stops working and you got to go out to fix it. You climb out of the air lock and slowly make your way up along the hull of the ship with only your suit lamp. It's a slow trip, you are playing it safe. Climbing along the hang holds with tethers. When you get to the sensor and turn your head and lamp your face doesn't meet a broken camera, but the severed head of a long frozen corpse from a battle long since passed. So it would probably be worse...
It's been ages since I've looked forward to a new Sci-Fi series, yet here I am. The originality and extreme detail put into all parts of the story are very interesting and bring that much more life into the ever expanding lore of this unique universe. So looking forward to this! Only wish I was able to get in onto the voice acting team... Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing it take shape. P.S. Nice addition with the OG Battlefront II map focus animation reference, brings me back :p
You guys have already constructed one hell of an interesting universe and we don’t even have the first episode yet, well done. I am a fan of the Templin Institute, so great casting choice there. I wish you all the and I am excitedly awaiting The Sojourn.
I love it! Atamara is similar to a world I created for a scifi series I never got around to writing. Darkspot was a rogue planetoid located at a near central point between Earth, Sirius and Epsilon Eridani. When it had been ejected from it's home star system it had collided with a mostly ice 100 km Kuiper belt object, creating a huge crater and huge ocean that froze in deep space. All the ice made it a valuable spot for ships to stop and take on supplies, rather than haul it all the way. Nice to see great minds think alike :)
Oh awesome! Glad to speak with someone working on the project. Yea astronomy is a wonderful subject. I'd take it over chemistry or Earth science any day of the week. Did you help design some of the in universe star systems? They're really interesting.
Oh, I'm sure we'll one day go in-depth about the process, but yeah. Dan comes up with the general idea for a system and what it is meant to be, and then we go over it iteratively adding info and sciencing it up. It's a real joy. :)
Your work is impressive. The lore you've created is absolute. I truly hope your sci-fi drama does well and comparable to Giants like Star Wars. Thank you for your effort in your work, I'll stay tuned in your future content. -Brad
Good question, I suppose we'll find out in due course. Given the relatively small size I'd guess it'll probably play a role as a balancing force. If either Centrum or the Union were to attack eachother, whichever side the Freeholds support would get an edge, so they use that fact to maintain their own independence. That or they have access to some unique technology/resource/production of good/etc that gives them a lot of bargaining power.
The sheer world building done in This show is absolutely unbelievable, and I love every bit of it. Add to that the narration is done it such a way that it isn't dry and boring I just can't wait for the first episode to come out.
0:45 "Thick sensor jamming dust cloud" **Sniff Sniff** Smells like secret base to me. I mean seriously, it's on the border of enemy territory, it's got natural cloaking, literally the last place you'd look... perfect for building strange experimental weapons...
I can imagine that underground in the planetary surface directly underneath the Howling, a labyrinthian network of tunnels and factories spreading underground. They could mine their building materials from the rogue planet itself so as to limit the number of cargo ships/transports that could give away the base's location.
Awesome video, about awesome stuff, from an awesome team! Also, hi GAB! If you see this, remember, while going through these comments, don't stress too much, and don't forget to take a break from time to time! :D
Does the Atamara system rouge planet moving fast? So at some point the planet wont be in range for the jump gate to work and splitting the 2 factions forever?
I can imagine a ship losing power or it's drift drive not functioning for some reason getting stranded in the howling, something inside the speakers of the ship wide pa systems acting as a radio antenna picking up the radio emissions the howling is famous for and broadcasting it ship wide, even when the speakers have no power, so the only way to stop it would be by dismantling every speaker in the ship. Imagine your ship adrift undetectable in the absolute darkness of space with a haunting howling filling the ship continuously every day, the constant howling taking a toll on the psychological state of the crew as they desperately try to find a way to get the ship out of the situation slowly being driven mad by that god forsaken howling that may or may not have a faint distorted screaming in the background.
A rogue planet is a pretty spooky concept to think about as it is, but you know what? We can do better! Smash that thing! And then construct a vital crossroads around it! Who needs to sleep calmly anyway?! I would like to know more about the cause of Atamara's shattering, though. Asteroid or other space collision? The previous conflict? Was there a freak drift-related accident/incident?
Hy, this is Gabriel, Sojourn's Scientific Adviser. The Atamara rogue planet was found in it's current state. The most widely accepted theory for it is that it originally had a moon, but when it was ejected from it's original system an flung into interstellar space, the moon's obit became highly eccentric. As time went by, tidal acceleration from Atamara eventually lowered the moon's orbit until it crossed the Roche limit, and it fragmented, becoming what today is The Howling.
So if I get this right, most of the Howling is not actually made up of the fragments of the planet, but rather the moon, maybe supplemented by what happened when the said fragments collided with Atamara?
How does interstellar communication work in in the Sojourn universe? Is it limited to lightspeed radio and comm lasers with courier ships necessary for any ftl communication? Do drift gates also carry transmissions? If so, one direction at a time, or both? Somewhat related, I'm assuming that ftl sensors are not a thing in this setting, and ships have to account for light lag in combat.
Hy, this is Gabriel, Sojourn's Scientific Adviser. There is are no FTL sensors or Ansibles in The Sojourn. FTL communication between star systems happen through Courrier ships. :)
@@GabrielGABFonseca That's what I like to see! I imagine each decently developed world has a data network that transmits and receives data packets from courier ships. Much like the internet and servers works today, but with a refresh rate between worlds limited by ship travel. So you could watch space-youtube on any planet in the cluster with a data network, but you'd have to wait for a ship to come update your local server before a new video appears in your feed.
