I live in Jerusalem. I once lost a folder containing a lot of sheet music. My name and phone number was on the folder. About a week later it turned up in the post. My only explanation is that someone must have found it, saw my name, looked up my address and posted it to me. I have no idea who.

Only in Israel can you lose an iPhone and get it back. My son left a pair of sandals by a waterfall on a trip there and got them back a week later because someone turned them into his tour group! And that bus station is a trip, isn’t it?! It’s like the twilight zone and impossible to find your way out!

Amerlad mad But you are the one who's baiting himself. Tell me: what Palestine? When was it established? What was its flag? What was its currency and exchange rate against any world currency and year you choose? What was the national anthem? Who was the president? Who were its allies? What states had relations with Palestine? What were her borders? What did she export and import? There never was an entity called Palestine. And there was no nation called Palestine or anything else here. There were nomadic Arabs and bedouin. Many of course can on over when the Jewish settlement provided opportunities. I can often identify them by their names. The common last name, Matsri for example, means then emigrated to the land of Israel from Egypt. So it's obvious who's not being honest and stealing our birthright on this Land. Even the Quran says that Israel is for the Jews! Sura 5:21 and 26:59. among other places.

Israeli consists of mostly religious people, and according to our Jewish laws it's forbidden to steal but moreover it's a huge "mizva"(good deed)to return what's lost to another! It's something all Israelis pay attention to.. Basically it's pretty liberating walking around the street knowing nobody gonna try to steal from you, and whatever is lost will be found.

    It`s pretty normal in Israel
I found 5 phones, 1 laptop and several wallets here and returned them all, including waiting for people or changing my course just to give it back to them ASAP.
I also received my lost phone and a couple of other expensive things.
Most of my friends and acquaintances did the same, and had the same experience
+++ One time I was late for work and left my car on (engine on) in the street parking, where people pass by. After 3 hours I came back, it was still turned on, with the lights on; no one even touched it !

I lost my phone in Jerusalem at the funeral for the most revered Rabbi in the country Rav Ovadia Yosef (October 2013). The estimates of the crowd size range from 800K to 1MIL, and I was certain that in such a big crowd the phone would be gone. I retraced my steps and saw a guy waiting with the phone for the owner to come claim it. He had even tried calling numbers in my contacts to try and find me.

TLV Central but station area spreads on 8-blocks.
Most people find it confusing like a maze.
The building is huge and there are many "dead spots" where all shops are empty and closed simply because no one gets there.
There is a basement which is totally deserted with homeless and drug addicts.

The infamous Tel Aviv Central Bus Station. When opened it was one of the largest bus stations in the world, but had several crucial flaws in design including having most of the stores on different levels than the main hall where buses came in and departed, the old thinking that making the transit passengers walk complicated between levels and they will pass by some stores, and most of the stores are in internal hallways and where never ever occupied. It was supposed to replace a very old outdoors dilapidated station and it itself became one.
There is serious talk about tearing it down.

ATMs rip you of almost 15% on the exchange rate. The mobile money apps in afeica let you keep dollar or local currency accounts and switch at will at actual forex rates.
Everybody uses them. Even street vendors. It has practically replaced cash all over africa anywhere there is a cell signal.

My one piece of advice is call ahead to check open hours of things before traveling to them. Hours change a lot & there's unexpected holidays. My other advice is find tour guides. Old ruins tend to be much more interesting when someone knows what they are. Or take a tour then add on days of your own. This is different from other countries where you can learn enough by just tramping around by yourself, though that can be fun.

Meanwhile....in USA people are walking up to people's porches to steal packages left as delivery....I left my phone in at EAT in Tottenham Court Road and someone handed it in, my wallet fell from my pocket on the street in East Ham and it was picked up and given to a shop nearby who continously called my sister every day for 4 days to tell her my wallet was with them and I picked it up with everything intact money and all. I went to a friend's birthday party years ago and left my phone on the table to go dance and came back it was stolen. I went put my phone in my pocket and went into a store to get gloves because it was cold came out and it was gone, I beileve it was stolen when I queued up to pay for the gloves. Another phone was stolen in the tube after I put it in my pocket on my way home, got home it was gone and few days later got a big bill for international calls to Italy and had to pay because I didn't know my phone had gone till I got home so the phone company ...T mobile refused to take the bill off despite me having called them as soon as I got home and realised the phone was gone and got a police reference with the report of theft. Now I never put my phone in my jacket pocket but straight in my bag when not using it. I should learn how to track my phone but don't know how to but now use a cheap LG as can't afford Samsung at the moment.

well , i knew that you had good chances of getting it back if you hurry. i've lost my phone , wallet with and without money, keys , glasses , you name it and i always got it back here in israel. ALWAYS. i've also found other peoples's stuff documents and phones and i always return it even if it's a hustle. here in israel it's pretty normal. off course it could get stolen, it's not like we all are saints here and there are no thieves. but if you forgot your stuff some where chances are that a non-thief will find and return it. here it is a norm to think that a phone that you find actually belongs to someone and not a present from heaven.

What a dear sweet man you are, to be so traumatized by the loss of your other phones and to find the return of this one to be so miraculous. In my experience, living in 8 different states (as well as 2nd-8th grade in Saudi Arabia - been loving falafel since age 7!), CA is the bad example of America. My fiance lost his wallet on the Chicago subway and got it back with the 100s of $$$ still in it. I left my purse on the bus in Cumberland, MD - very poverty stricken and lots of heroin - got it back with the 100s of $$$ still in it..... pretty cool you had the place to yourself but I hope you had company for drinks later. I have been flying solo for over a year now and the lack of company is getting to me.....

In Tel Aviv only forans took phones. Israelis upgrade their phones every year most of the time
